@@Bentcypress It is called Great Britain, most countries world wide use smaller fire engines . How often have you seen a aerial platform at a road traffic collision in the states ?
Bro, do you know how long engine chauffers and the control fireman try to charge a line, it could take minutes. You need to take a hydrant wrench, screw it on the hydrant, and than you take it off, than you keep doing it until water comes out. Then you get a 5 1/2 supply hose to connect to it. Then you go to the pump, and you turn it on and wait. While the control is connecting the attack line to the side, or the back of the engine. Its not easy. So dont ever, or ever question The F.D.N.Y. Like that again! I would like to see you try!
That was a second alarm fire. Thats about 30 Fdny units to respond to that. About 5 handlines were streched to that fire, and all of them were working and charged. That was about 150 Fireman on that scene. While the Ladders (the sticks, the tower ladder, and the tiller ) were all trying to find and rescue people, and vent to look for exposures, and then they start working. Its not easy. Its very dark in that building, and they could barely see. That fire was very 🔥🥵
This is crazy! One thing that you can be sure that works, is to start pumping water immediately against the fire. What do we see? Loads of firemen spending time assessing the fire... This is ridiculous! Don't they have water tanks in their trucks? I live in Europe, and I can tell you that the response here to tackle the fire is much much faster! And yes, the firemen here attack the fire head on with their water hoses as soon as they arrive. Assessment of the situation comes second. What is going on in the US?
@@Big-O43 Hi Chuck ,there are good and bad all over the world but I must say that most European fire departments are way ahead of the US. Fdny are still doing things we were doing 20 years ago. I watched this video and I am amazed at how many guys wander up to the front of the building but no body is doing much about the water supply and it takes about 3 minutes before they get a charged hose working. Over here I could have 2 teams with a high pressure hosereels for each team working within 30 seconds of turning up at the front of the building knocking the fire back simply because I use my crews much more efficiently. I speak to many American firefighters to find out some of their procedures and they seem to stick to certain roles . Ours are flexible so we can adjust to different conditions when we first turn up. If you delegate tasks as and when you need them at different situations you can carry out what we call simultaneous activities so you get things done quicker. Stay safe.
@@Big-O43 Europe is not one country. The culture and tactics differs a lot between the different countrys fire and rescue services. But I would still say that the time from arrival to water on the fire is on average faster in most european countries compared to the states. And the use of personal protective gear is much more common in europe (we usually put our masks on pre arrival).
Nurse this one as long as you can guys! Where would the Fun be in extinguishing the flames through the window on tank water and Protecting lives and property? He has heavy fire out several windows on an occupied multiple dwelling. (Or what some would call a “real” fire) With no primary search done yet …? He has the upper floor being impacted by heavy smoke conditions as well as soon to be extension of fire. He’s the first due ladder company that is in charge of doing that search. Where he puts that turn table is everything. It’s a hero or zero moment. One or two feet off can be all the difference in the world in terms of being able to use that bucket for rescue, ventilation, checking for exterior fire extension and so on...The trees, utitlity lines, power lines, fire location including where it may or may not go if it gets away from them. This chauffeur has literally a few seconds to take all this into account and make the “right or best” decision. There’s also other factors like leaving room for 2nd and 3rd due trucks as well as many other unseen obstacles or conditions that most people would never think about or even realize is happening . This guy is the guy you want coming to get you or a loved one. Believe me. There’s plenty of people who view things the way you do and are to afraid to cause any damage because they don’t know their job and couldn’t explain tactically why they did what they did. This isn’t a slam or put down at you either. I’m trying to expand your outside of the box thinking. I guarantee you this chauffeur knew he was going to take off a few layers of paint and he also knew exactly why it needed to be done. This wasn’t a case of oops or I didn’t see it coming. This was tactically a deliberate move. If you look at the second truck 175. Where he spots he’s basically rendered his aerial useless. If you watch you can see him trying to figure out how can I get this aerial to any part of that building so it doesn’t look like I fucked up my spot. His best option would of been to stop shorter and just hit the corner of 1/2 exposure. Point being this shows you how a couple feet and an 800,000 dollar aerial truck is now rendered useless. I guarantee someone has probably parked on his ass so backing up 10-15 feet is now not an option. He is dead in the water for lack of a better term. (If this video makes it back to the firehouse i guarantee you he is going to take some heavy ribbing for not realizing it was a shit spot and him trying 3-4 times to make it work when you can clearly see it’s a dead situation. He may have been able to rotate it counterclockwise and miss the tree but going clockwise or to the right is a dead end no matter how many times he tries. I’m not ripping or putting him down. This is coming from me doing the exact same thing and taking the walk of shame. This is a great learning tool and showing how spotting apparatus is vitally important. Again getting a good spot with your truck company is everything and it’s never as easy as it looks. So much more that goes wrong than goes right ...
Again, this was a clumsy mistake on the drivers part. I’m not an internet troll I’ve been in this spot many times driving the first in ladder, he and everyone watching this video can see he is not getting the bucket in service. Between the service lines and enormous tree a couple feet does not matter in this situation. Game plan switches to straight and extension ladders. Which he impeded by pinning the back compartment against the car. He shouldn’t have to worry about a truck pulling up on his ass because everyone should know that prevents ladders and hose from being pulled, that and the second ladder should take the rear. You did a great job explaining the importance of apparatus placement but trying to justify this drivers actions some how is wrong...he was clumsy. But in the fire service every situation is different and I wasn’t there. Be safe.
PhD in RUclips. You’re taking a lot of coulda, shoulda, woulda‘s....and if you truly were an ladder co. Chauffeur. The first rule we know is expect to get fucked from the word go. So take what real estate you can before someone does and will. I’d rather have this guy being over aggressive vs. a driver giving up and saying I’m not even go down the block it’s to tight.
James I never said don’t commit to the block, the block being tight isn’t the problem here. If your first in ladder absolutely take the front. The engine did a great job pulling past the fire dwelling for that very reason. Once you are on the block it’s not time to be aggressive about your position, it’s time to slow down and think of the best position.
The guy on the stick ladder back and forth and back and forth. (L-175) Pay attention to the surrounding when you park your ladder so that doesn't happen. You literally have one job with that truck at a fire. Position truck to deploy ladder at said fire.

FirstDue you can get water on the fire from outside you know. Straight stream from as acute an angle from below can drastically reduce temps in the uninvolved areas of the structure whilst entry is being made. It will increase survivable space for anyone trapped inside the structure that aren’t in the fully involved spaces, and reduce the internal temperatures for the crews doing an interior attack. If a straight stream is used the flow path isn’t compromised, the stream will push the hot gasses and smoke out of the same opening, and if you can hit the ceiling the stream acts like a sprinkler. That being said, these guys had it knocked down within 5 minutes of arriving, which isn’t too bad I don’t think.
Water from exterior is defensive.. Aggressive interior attack covers the FFs who made entry via rear windows.. Fire was out in less than 5 mins.. Pretty good in my opinion
The fire should have been out before the video started by hitting the Visible Burning Material through the windows with Booster lines from the sidewalk on Tank Water. All the gasses including water vapor will continue to vent out the windows. The room temperature will drop by 1000 degrees as soon as the flames are gone and continue to cool. Around 5-10 seconds! That's called getting the JOB done Fast and Safely while Protecting any victims, fire fighters, possessions and the structure and doing that BEFORE the front door can be opened and an entry team assembled. still don't understand why fdny pumpers arent crosslaid or at least pre-connected in the residential boroughs... if you say it's a budget issue, i won't believe you
Too many different building types to have pre-connections.. 2 story houses vs 7 story Multiple dwellings vs 4 story brownstones.. All very different
because it doesn't work for them
What I don't quite get is that there are about 20 guys all standing at the front of the building with saws and ceiling hooks and BA sets on their backs standing around yet they still haven't got their water supply sorted. How about a few more of the first guys that turn up forget worrying about getting a set on their back and sort out a solid water supply , so by the time the next couple of trucks turn up the guys can get in the front door with a charged hose line.
They guys that you see standing out side while the other guy go in they are their for back 6 man crew every is assigned to a company ladder, rescue, and engine maybe you should go to the fire academy just saying

Do a 360, vent, check for extension into the exposures on either side, check the back to make sure there aren’t any victims hanging out of windows or on porches waiting to be rescued, throw some ground ladders in case someone needs to bail out, pulling another handline in case the one being used interior fails, capturing utilities, softening the structure in case someone inside calls a mayday, but hey who are we to criticize New York’s Bravest?
Did he hit that truck
What was going on with that TDA?
Power cables must be laid underground!
Looking at google map ..the house looked empty..why are there no police there keeping the rubber neckers back ? Don't American fire engines carry water ..in the UK they would have had a hose on that by now with water from the fire engine !
Because the NYPD responds to about 100000 911 calls a day, plus this fire happened in the 75th precinct which is one of if not the busiest in the city and all of officers were busy?
UK is an entirely different setup with entirely different number of calls so the comparison doesn't work.

There is no rear other than a walkway. It’s not vehicle accessible. I take it you haven’t been to Brooklyn in the last 150 years ?

All these guys and no water yet
Lmaoo you help you think a fire engine automatically turns go to the fire academy and them teach you
Bro, do you know how long engine chauffers and the control fireman try to charge a line, it could take minutes.

Oh well it's their fault for not moving their piece of crap knowing that the fire Department needs that area.
Nice job of NYPD getting all the bystanders out of the away 🤦🏻♂️
This is crazy! One thing that you can be sure that works, is to start pumping water immediately against the fire. What do we see? Loads of firemen spending time assessing the fire... This is ridiculous! Don't they have water tanks in their trucks? I live in Europe, and I can tell you that the response here to tackle the fire is much much faster! And yes, the firemen here attack the fire head on with their water hoses as soon as they arrive. Assessment of the situation comes second. What is going on in the US?
I have seen departments in Europe do crappy jobs, Europe is overrated and is not as great as you think. Bunch of over inflated egomaniacs
I can’t stand when people won’t get out of the way and stand on the sidewalk

SORRY REAL MEN AT WORK
To Many people in hot zone
So many ignorant people get out of the way
Clumsy mistake on the drivers part, don’t know what he was thinking.
James Fitzgerald couldn’t explained it better that was well said. Thanks...

It astounds me just how long it takes u s firemen to actually start pumping water on fires
Linda Storey what is your experience in firefighting? Have you ever forced a multi-lock bolted door ?
...and it's not like the firemen had access to the ornamental metal gate... Which prevents anyone from kicking in the front door, so...
Зело бодро изба тлеет.
