Anyone ever think of mentioning John Leventhal? He's in the video too, co-wrote the song, and produced the Grammy winning record.
And he does it for Rosanne Cash (his wife), Jackson Browne, Willie Nelson, Bruce Hornsby, Elvis Costello, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Charlie Haden, David Crosby, Levon Helm, Edie Brickell, Paul Simon, Patty Larkin, Susan Tedeschi, the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Steve Forbert, Donald Fagen, Ry Cooder, Vince Gill, George Strait, Joe Cocker and Johnny Cash. He’s written 200+ songs that have been recorded by other artists. He’s won 6 grammies and been nominated for 20.
@@marmotsongs thanks Tom for the list. He surely deserves a mention.
this song is such a time machine for me back to 1997
I don't think she ever got the recognition she deserves. ❤
She won a grammy
@@johnnymountford Apparently that's not enough for the OC 🤣
Maybe they weren't around then, this song was MASSIVE in '97.
she was 41 when the song was released and got grammy awards.
they are the prestigious song of the year and record of the year awards thought
@@johnnymountford 2 grammy awards by the way
Sadly people only remember ODB interrupting the speech
Shawn Colvin is one of those artists that is just stuck outside of time, because this song is every bit as profound now as ever, and Shawn sounds more incredible every time I hear her.
I concurr
Underrated guitar picker that could write songs.
1996 was fantastic with this great song.. sweet memory indeed
Total goosebumps. Beautiful.
On one of our road trip CDs, lots of great scenery went by listening to this. The music made it ever better! Thanks for posting, thank you Shawn Colvin for such great songs! You are one of a kind!!
It's even better when you know what this song is about, really chilling. A poet, a musician and ,a genius!
i love her voice that never gets older.
One of the most soulful and beautifully toned voices in all modern music 🎵
I am speechless. You are so beautiful.
Loved the original 20+ years ago; love this one even more. All her life lessons have deepened the delivery of the message of this actually quite strange song. The notable pause just before the 3 minute mark makes you think perhaps she's remembering when she wrote or first performed it. The guy on guitar is spot on. Time takes you places you never thought you'd go.
20+ years ago? your age at those year?
The guitar player is John Leventhal who was co-writer, producer, and guitar on the original version. He is married to and performs with his wife Rosanne Cash. He is a phenomenal guitar player.
These two made some truly outstanding music together... doesn't get any better actually.
Just heard it via Tidal just now, so refreshing song
Steven Spielberg on guitar wow !! Stunning stunning stunning
More like James Cameron lol
I love Shawn: her story telling, her songs, her voice, her musicianship - ALL OF IT. She is one of my idols! I saw her front row center at Payomet in Truro, MA a couple summers ago... Before hand, we got to meet her, take pictures and ask her questions as part of the VIP treatment for the ticket I purchased... I even gave her a gift, but still not sure if her Manager gave it to her or not! Guess I'll never know. ??
Can someone tell me who John L. is who is playing with her, and why isn't he credited in the details of this performance?
I'd never heard of her before until I saw the episode of the Simpsons where Ned's wife died. "It's a book about a man..." 🎶🎸🎤 Shawn Colvin was a guest voice in this particular episode. Beautiful music, beautiful voice.
My all time fav song, so much memories
Great guitar playing! ⭐️
Music will never be this depressing and beautiful again.
That was AWESOME...love the arrangement of unplugged.
Voice of an angel and such a powerful message.
I just love this song
just great
This is amazing
Wow!!
Second that...............Wow!
Can't help it... Wow!
That was absolutely breathtaking 💖💖✨✨💖💖
It's great to see Shawn and John L. playing together. And it is amazing to hear John play all those hooks like he invented them yesterday. Not that Shawn necessarily needs him to fill out her performance. We saw her one-woman show at the Ridgefield Playhouse a few years ago and she was amazing. She played for about two hours and every other song she alternated between flat pick and finger picks. She was amazing at both. When she played "Sunny", there was a golden light all around her. She didn't play the hook exactly like the record but it didn't matter. She played it like it meant everything to her at that moment. The crowd loved her. It was transcendent. Powerful.

Kristen Chenowith's (doppelganger) big sister, wow, amazing singers both!
Good eye.
Beautiful
Fcn Love it!!!!
Is she already in her senior years? If so, she's one of the most beautiful senior citizen I ever saw.
She's 64 years old now. So yeah, she's getting close. But she still looks and sounds amazing!
The song is from 1993?
@@amramjose 1996
She doesn’t look 64 years old at all, I thought for sure that she was 52 wow
I look forward the acoustic bonus tracks from Cardi & Bruno, in 2038.
Shawn is so ridiculously good. You hear where the album arrangements sprouted from in her guitar playing,
Well, the guy playing the guitar, John Leventhal, wrote the music and produced the record, so he has no small role in how she plays it and what it sounds like on the record.
CALIDAD !!

What is your favorite Shawn Colvin song?
I enjoyed that....... 💁♂️
Because dark recording studios are still just too bright!
Am I going mad or is that Mike Rutherford on guitar? Sure does look like him
The guitarist accompanying Shawn is John Leventhal.
@@warrenwhittington4250 Thank you for identifying John Leventhal. I was struck by the absence of his name in the credits.
I think I heard a couple of clunker notes from him. Now, that said, his playing is otherwise sublime, on key, in time and his passing notes skillfully & tastefully placed. That Martin he's playing sounds especially nice.
She’s out
