- Today I made a delicious Horchata. This recipe is my dairy version of this drink. The milky, cinnamon flavor on ice is so refreshing and reminds me of my childhood. #summer #aguasfrescas #horchata

1/4 almonds (optional, but taste great)
1 cinnamon stick
4 cups water
4 cups milk
1/2 cup sugar

I am lactose intolerant but horchata is one of my favorite drinks, I used Almond milk instead of cows milk. It makes it very creamy and adds in that almond essence if you don’t have the almonds on hand. Very yummy! 😋

It’s so TRUE, you can’t have Horchata without ice it’s not complete!
I just made this with the addition of almonds, vanilla, some soy milk and a quarter can of condensed milk. I accidentally let the rice and cinnamon soak for 23 hours but I have to say, this is the best horchata I’ve ever had! Thanks for sharing!

Have you tried toasting your rice in a dry skillet? That’s what I do in place of almonds when making it for a friend with nut allergies. Gives a very similar nutty/toasty flavor. Definitely an extra step, but worth it!

You mentioned throwing in some almonds, which I did not have, so I used almond milk...sitting here with a big, yummy, ice cold glass this morning. It's better than I remember it tasting! Thanks again!
I’m here in Tennessee and we can find it all over bigger cities that have Hispanic stores. Even got it at a small town Mexican restaurant last weekend.

I made horchata for the first time this week. It is so delicious. I liked your video the best. I also saved and finished cooking the strained rice and I’m glad I didn’t dispose of it! It delicious. Like oatmeal when you pour milk over it.

Oh my goodness!! My daughter has 3 bowls of cinnamon toast crunch cereal every day...nope not to eat the cereal...to drink the sweet cinnamon milk!!! I will be making this for her TOMORROW (if i had cinnamon sticks I'd be making it right now) She's 4 and has asked me if i can just make her some cinnamon milk like chocolate milk and i recently looked up some recipes for cinnamon syrup to do that but i think this will be a hit in my house with EVERYONE!! Thank you! Do to time, I boiled water before soaking, then followed the rest of the recipe & we got to have it by dinner time. (2 or 2 1/2 hours later) So good. We have decided to incorporate it for Taco Tuesday each week!
