It looks good to me, just have to adjust playstyle a bit. I like the I-56 with its dumbfiring torpedo from long range, so I think the Hydrophone change is good.
Thanks for the video. The changes that were made just makes us be more careful when playing submarines. Being aggressive is no longer a tactic at this point.

New Hydrophone is way too broken, especially against Surface Ships that rely on Stealth like torpedo boats. How are you supposed to play a Shima when your position is constantly being revealed to the entire enemy team WITHOUT you even knowing that you're being detected. It's basically a 40s CD Radar-lite. It's dumb and needs to change.
They turned Subs into EWAC units with the hydrophone changes lol. I think if they’re gonna let the hydrophone go through islands and basically scout everything within effective radius, ships should be alerted to it or get some kind of warning. That way they know a sub is nearby and has scouted them. With the upcoming torpedo changes to address shotgunning, looks like subs may become more support oriented (scouting) mid to short range ambushers. Once they add the sub surveillance consumable to more ships and maybe even some DD’s, add more means of counter play, maybe people won’t hate subs as much.
Exactly. All other forms of spotting are notified to the target; why not hydrophone? It's the lack of counterplay (including being shotgunned) that enrages so many about subs, so this patch is a small step in the right direction. Much, much more needed, however.
you mean the only changes for submarines was a better turning circle and can see through mountains(which is a cheat) but cant shoot torps through mountains. whooped de do, but the whining battleship class got increased depth charges planes bombing with faster reload consumerables to do it but with less damage to a class with the lowest armor in the game, not game balance,. Im sure battleships would LOVE submarines to have faster loading torpedoes with less damage..NOT! as the cumular effect is devastating to THEM as is to subs, so basically, subs were nerfed and BB's cruisers and DD's were all buffed with faster reload rates and antisub capabilities to BB's were increased but no real changes to submarines, not even the ability to call bombers when on the surface. Carrier torp damage nerfed and RN tier 8 colossus rocket hit rate nerfed from 50 to 33% meaning you will only hit the target with 2 rockets if your lucky. sucks to be subs and carriers, cry babys win.
I agree they’ve taken a lot from submarines and carriers, however there are other ways to contribute and win. I certainly hope for more changes as Wargaming assesses the situation. I personally want all 5 classes in every battle, but I want them for different reasons and damage should not be a reason in my opinion. Everyone should bring damage and everyone should bring a must have ability. Currently Wargaming is making these classes into something different in an attempt to bring players back who left because these classes introduced unfair mechanics. Shotgun Submarine should not exist in a war game, perpetual spotting from air should not be in a war game. Both of these mechanics are unavoidable for most of the players in 1 v 1, yes a team game should offer more to help others against these mechanics but they don’t have them inherently. Wargaming has to remove tactics that become the thing to do and are viewed as unfair by the majority. They need to give stuff to these classes to compensate for their value in my opinion and I expect they will adjust as well, just don’t want to commit to anything yet.
I still don't like playing with or against submarines. Every match that includes a Sub is an exercise in frustration.
And now most of the times is TWO subs per team ☹️

Yeah I agree, I think that is the right way to design them but I hope for more changes in the commander tree.

it can be used at any depth; surface, periscope, or submerged
I love playing subs, but it's way harder now, because so many players are rushing subs now.

Still broken they gave the sub servailence to long range kiting ships pointless
subs are so boring to watch.
