This album came out in 1977 when I was 5 years old. My dad took me to this concert, and I sat on his shoulders and watched the show awestruck. Ace Frehley (the lead guitarist) inspired me to pick up my dad's guitar and start learning to play it.
This song always makes me think about the scene in Role Models where Seann William Scott is playing this song and telling the kid that the singer is singing about his male parts. It's hilarious.

This was my very first album! Christmas morning, 1977. I was in 3rd grade. I spent countless hours listening to it and staring at the cover artwork. It even had that little folded cardboard gun that had a paper flap that would come out and pop when you swung it down!
Oh yes! I am part of the KISS Army! I was in Elementary School when they where at their peak! Every kid was a KISS character for Halloween! And remember, Rock N Roll can Never Be Too Loud! LOL!
Got my first KISS t-shirt in 3rd grade. My older brother had all their posters on his wall and all of the albums. I was totally fascinated with the Dressed To Kill album cover, and I was scared of Gene Simmons. 😆
My uncle is a huge KISS fan and when he was a kid he was at some sort of party area of a big town with his parents. He was at the counter of a shop or something when a guy in sunglasses comes and stands next to him to get something from the clerk. The guy looks down at my uncle and tells him nice shirt, he was wearing a KISS shirt. The guys walks away and my uncles sees him go into a VIP area/room and he took him a few seconds to realize that it was Gene Simmons.
KISS was my favorite band growing up....until I was 15 or so. "Detroit Rock City" is a great song. "Rock and Roll all Night" was their "Anthem" song. "Beth" is a ballad sung by the drummer that was probably their most popular song. KISS was very good in the beginning, but then they started chasing the dollar and the fads.......they even went disco....."I was made for loving you" was their disco song.
Just because they changed over the years doesnt mean it sucked. By the way, their "Disco," song is still played at their shows to this day and is a kick ass song... its just different than the stuff before it was released. Their 80s stuff is great as well, again, just different. Even the last album they put out, Monster is good.
If I remember correctly, Beth was the first Rock song to win a Grammy. Basically, the Grammys were taking heat for never giving a rock song a Grammy so they just picked a somewhat tame rock song from a popular group and there you go. Kiss is one of the best bands on the planet live. When Ace used to come out and shoot Roman Candles out of his guitar live it was incredible. One of the absolute best live shows you could ever see. Kiss live album, the first one, set the bar.
Undoubtedly THE most entertaining band I've ever seen live, and I've seen a lot. Love their music or not (and I enjoy it greatly), but their live shows are simply over the top. As Gene and Paul have said before, they put on the show that they always wanted to go see when they were younger. You really should get live footage when you do their songs, and if you ever get the chance to see them live it's a real experience, you must go!
It's funny, because a lot of rock shows in the 80s' and 90s' use pyrotechnics to liven up their shows. The bands of their time just got up on stage and played boring sets. A lot of bands didn't want them as an opening act, because their show was far more entertaining to the audience. Haters called them a gimmick, even though they truly understood what entertaining an audience was.
There was a time between 74 to 78 KISS ruled the world.. My favorite uncle that thought me to play the guitar bought me there first album that I Stoll have. There first song "fire house" "Detroit Rock City" "Doctor love" are all bangers..

With 20 studio albums to choose from, there is something for everyone. I humbly ask you give a listen to All Hell's Breakin' Loose, and A Million to One, from KISS' 1983 album, Lick it Up. The first is the original rock/rap song, and the second song is a clinic in how to deliver an amazing vocal and powerful song! ROCK ON :)
KISS is a very talented band, and underrated at times. Their music and lyrics won't blow you away but they have some definite "must listen" bangers. It's always about the experience with KISS. I'd love to see more reactions!
Thank you for doing more KISS, like all the fans are saying you have to see them live. They are all about the live show anything from like 74-79 will be original members (Gene Simmons - The Demon - Bass, Paul Stanley - The Starchild -Guitar/lead Vocals, Peter Criss - The Catman - Drummer and Ace Frehley - The Spaceman - Lead Guitar). Peter and Ace left in the early 80's. Gene and Paul kept the make-up on for a couple of albums with new members and new characters before removing it for the duration of the 80's and into the 90's where after a few line-up changes they re-united with original guitarist Ace and Drummer Peter for a couple of songs at MTV unplugged. This triggered the Reunion which was announced by Tupac Shakur at the 1996 Grammy's. They toured as the original members again recording 1 album Psycho Circus before eventually splitting up again. They continue to perform in the make-up with replacement Members Eric Singer (wearing the Catman make-up) on drums and Tommy Thayer on guitar (wearing the spaceman make-up). Fans are divided on the new members wearing the original make-up, especially older fans. Brief fan-perspective history to help you know who is who a bit better when you see different era's of the band. Must check live from the late 70's and the MTV unplugged set. They are on their final tour so you should really try to see them live if you get the chance - End of the Road Tour biggest show they've put together. 2-3 hour party.
i really love your reactions so much fun to watch. im glad to see you have discovered kiss. theres alot to like about them awesome live performances being one but i also love the fact that their music styles are so varied that there is something for everyone. when they started out their music had a raw heavy blues rock feel of the 70s since thats when they started. but they,ve also done rock/disco, early 80s pop sound, 80s metal hair band style both heavy and slow ballad. Also did an album that sounded like a cross between iron maiden/pink floyd called legend of the elder their best songs from that album are ‘I’ ‘The Oath’ and ‘World eithout heroes’.their biggest soft rock hit was a ballad called Beth which drummer Peter Criss sang in the 70s and Paul Stanley (the lead singer here on love gun) did a big ballad in 80s called Forever. Like other commenters have suggested watching them on The Midnight Special is good especailly the song ‘She’ if you want to heat a really good guitar solo. Or for a really great guitar riff check out their song Parasite. their best known for their ballads like God gave rock n roll to you, shout it out loud and of course rock m roll all night. I hope you get to hear more of their work, happy listening.
It WAS a gimmick…and art…bass player, secondary lead singer and basically leader of the band, Gene Simmons said in a documentary I watched on the group that their idea was to be like The Beatles, but extreme!
Lex's comment on people (who never heard the band) being judgemental about the image, reminds me of my older sister.....I became a diehard fan in 1976. Was always listening to their music, with my headphones cranked up. My sister, who was more into stuff like Seals and Crofts, Andy Gibb, ect, never would listen to even a single KISS song. Sort of like my parents. They seen the makeup and crazy outfits and assumed the worst......Then recently, one day when sis was visiting me, I was playing some of the old songs as "background music". She was like, "Hey I've heard this song on the radio. This is KISS? Wow! I never knew that they sang this song!"....(The song she was referring to was "Hard Luck Woman".)
Fun fact: Paul Stanley played bass on this recording. Paul also played bass on I was made for loving you. A lot of kiss records were recorded without Gene Simmons
I wish I could take you back in time with me to when I was standing right in front of them on their first tour, so you could experience what an incredibly loud concert that was. And they were just the opening act, on a 4 band lineup, that most of the audience had never heard of. It was very primitive and shocking and dark. Not like later cartoonish concerts as they got bigger and bigger. Live stuff from 75 kinda gives a taste of that, but being there was really something else. Rock on people!
Role Models and the scene with Sean William Scott pops into my head EVERY TIME I hear this song without fail. Y’all need to react to “Lick It Up” if you haven’t already.
The soundtrack of my childhood and the wallpaper on my childhood walls. Moved on to more technical bands when I became a musician, but I will always owe a debt of gratitude to this band for the inspiration.
Hey what's up guys! Greeting from South Florida! I first heard kiss when some kid in third grade walked up to me and asked me who's your favorite Kiss member. I didn't know what he was talking about. Then he played me The First Kiss album. And we became friends for life. Checkout Shock Me next. You guys rock! God bless you! Peace!
Glad you’re covering KISS but you REALLY need to find live performances for their songs. The songs are great but they sound just the same live and the visuals are everything.
I was 9, and it is difficult to overstate just how wildly popular KISS was to our demographic, back in the day. Along with Star Wars, they were able to get people camped out in the streets for days to be first in line for concerts
Paul Stanley is singing, playing bass, and singing backing vocals on this song. Oh and he wrote it. The guy is amazing. Ace Frehley played the guitar solos.
Thanks for doing this ! Top 3 KISS song IMO . I know ya'll dont normally do songs twice, but you should check out the Brooklyn Bride performance to get both the audio and visual effects of the band.
By the Time the title track from the 1977 album Love Gun arrived on record store shelves, KISS had been building a reputation with five banging albums released in just 3 years from 1974-76. Their self-titled debut album doesn't have a throw-away song on it. Every track is good. They updated their face paint personas with 1974's follow up, Hotter Than Hell. Then in 1975, I think every KISS fan was just intrigued by the album art photo of the band in full make-up wearing suits for "Dressed to Kill" and Gene's pose for the photo is iconic. following up with twin releases in 1976, Destroyer (with at least 5 big hit songs) and Rock And Roll Over. I bought Rock and Roll Over initially JUST for the album art, which is spectacular, but it quickly became one of my go-to albums, much like their debut, not a bad song on the album in my opinion, from I Want You, Take Me, Baby Driver (which sounds like a sister song to ZZ Top's classic La Grange), Calling Dr. Love, Ladies Room, and Mr. Speed, to the timeless Hard Luck Woman, which rises above the other songs filled with sexual innuendo and bravado to a more mature sounding. tell-it-like-it-is, break up song, with Rod Stewart "Maggie May" type influences.
I loved that song when I was a teenager - I think this was from the double album "Platinum", one of my first vinyl records - also loved "I was made for loving you" (later song from different album), back then ALL in VINYL :-) I miss the VINYL time of my life...... listened to every record a 100+ times... 20 min each side.
@Chief10 Beers To each his own, but i never cared about the whole spectacle of their live shows. Listening to them i never heard anything that made me want to buy any of their albums. I used to have hundreds of albums.
And there are still enough great musical styles for you to discover! Opera for instance: Nesu Dorma by Pavarotti. Straight Edge like Minor Threat or housemusic, songs like Phantasia-inner light. And so much more.
This was THE band of my formative years (the mid 80’s). Great song, one of the big live fan favorites. My favorite albums of KISS are Creatures Of The Night (1982), Lick It Up (1983), Hotter Than Hell (1974) and Destroyer (1976).
It took me 40 years to realize what "Love Gun" meant lol! They were the first hard rock band I ever heard and I guess I took everything about them in an innocent child like wonder for all those years. Well, I get it now!
Kiss put out a ton of music over the years and I personally am not the snob that thinks only their early stuff is good. Check out I was made for loving you. It is a disco song that is so different than their other stuff. How about a killer ballad from the 80s, "Forever."
Mine and my best mates karaoke song. Some very good memories making a fool of ourselves singing this to a busy bar. Props to you both, been subbed for a while now & still the only reaction channel I like to watch for the variety and authenticity. Much love

You two should really check out "God of Thunder". I don't know if you've done "BETH" yet but it won a peoples choice award!"ILOVE IT LOUD"Many, many more!🤘
I put this song from Kiss right along with ZZ-Top Pearl Necklace, or Tubesnake Boogie for lyrics, usually about the dirty stuff we want to do to the ladies!! ;)
Ah Kiss. Kiss was HUGE in the 70's. The group that made everyone think that anyone could play guitar or write a song. Kiss was VERY much a gimmick band. Their lyrics are ultra simple bordering on bad. There music playing is equally as simple. They are from Queens NY and came out right around the time Glam Rock( David Bowie) was very popular. The costumes appeal to 10-14 year olds that are just getting into music and find groups like Zeppelin, the Stones, Yes and many others way too complicated for their developing minds. I was one of those kids. LOL. By the time you went to H.S. you had to hide your love of Kiss from other kids or you would be severely ridiculed. All that being said, there is just something about Kiss that if you grew up in that era, you might say they suck in public but would go home and listen to their music when no one could see you. And they put on a hell of a show in concert.
You need to hear the live version of Forever with the Melbourne Orchestra, Paul Stanley sounds amazing. You really get the essence of Kiss when you hear and see them performing.
A lot of comments re Kiss live. It’s true. In fact, their first breakthrough album was their fourth, called “Kiss ALIVE!”, recorded in Cleveland, Detroit and another city I can’t recall. If you listen to the first song on that album (Deuce) you will hear the power, heat and 🔥 they bring live versus the studio versions of songs. In fact this version of Love Gun is good, but the version on their eighth album, Kiss ALIVE II, is even better. The best Detroit Rock City version I’ve ever seen/heard live is “Detroit Rock city East Rutherford“. You should react to that including both music and their onstage performance. You will be blown away. It is from the final tour with the four original members. Keep up the great work guys! One of my fave reaction channls👍🏽 especially if you do more Kiss!
I was 15 when I seen them in '78. I was so close I could see Ace Frehley the Lead Guitarist's Blood Shot Eyes. It took him the whole opening song "I Stole Your Love" to walk down the stairs because he was as Wasted As I Was. 😁 I Hope You Watch The Songs You React To Live By Your Self Because Like Rush There Live Show Is All That And Then Some.
Every time I hear this song I think of the movie " Role Models" lmfao 🤣 😂
i really love your reactions so much fun to watch. im glad to see you have discovered kiss. theres alot to like about them awesome live performances being one but i also love the fact that their music styles are so varied that there is something for everyone.
when they started out their music had a raw heavy blues rock feel of the 70s since thats when they started. but they,ve also done rock/disco, early 80s pop sound, 80s metal hair band style both heavy and slow ballad.
“I was made for Lovin you” and “I still love you.” Different, yet fantastic!!💖💙🤘🏼
KISS is a band you have to see. live music best
Kiss’ music is best listened to/viewed live. No other live band like them. There are some great clips of Detroit Rock City on You Tube.
Always good to hear Kiss! You guys rock!
As a kid i didn't know what they were actually referring to in the song. lol. But yeah still catchy
Role Models and the scene with Sean William Scott pops into my head EVERY TIME I hear this song without fail.
Y’all need to react to “Lick It Up” if you haven’t already.
KISS is as real as they come! They laid the hard rock path that all other bands walk on. KISS ARMY FOREVER!!
Peace!
One of the things that makes KISS unique is that all 4 original members had songs where they sang lead vocals& I think the first to do that.
Glad you’re covering KISS but you REALLY need to find live performances for their songs. The songs are great but they sound just the same live and the visuals are everything.
The studio version of Love Gun is better than the live performance. It has more thump to it.
Now this is KISS! 👿🎸🤙
I loved that song when I was a teenager - I think this was from the double album "Platinum", one of my first vinyl records - also loved "I was made for loving you" (later song from different album), back then ALL in VINYL :-) I miss the VINYL time of my life...... listened to every record a 100+ times... 20 min each side.
kiss wasn't exactly known for having....complex lyrics. It was always the schtick. But this is one of my favorites from them, on spectrum :)
Overall I thought they sucked, but this one is one of the 2 or 3 I really like.
@@detomaso_6235 I felt that there were just so many better band's back then, so i wasn't going to spend any money or time on them.
@Chief10 Beers To each his own, but i never cared about the whole spectacle of their live shows. Listening to them i never heard anything that made me want to buy any of their albums. I used to have hundreds of albums.
...they were more about the live show than the studio, looking to be a "more for the money" band...but the show was a great time indeed!...
Cold Gin
Firehouse
Strutter
God of Thunder
Great Expectations
Do You Love Me
Are some great "classic" KISS songs.
And there are still enough great musical styles for you to discover! Opera for instance: Nesu Dorma by Pavarotti. Straight Edge like Minor Threat or housemusic, songs like Phantasia-inner light. And so much more.
Pull any song at random from Kiss Alive, it'll be a killer.
Double Platinum..
Its a toy gun that shoots flowers and peace symbols. Or his penis. I forget which.
@@mneugent7658 😂😂😂😂😂
Same with Nothing to Loose being about Anal Sex
I thought he was coming through the backdoor of her house....
@@67Aquaholic Well, there's another revelation for me!
I remember the album having a paper gun inside
Sounds like it could be straight out of This is Spinal Tap.
It's great to still see people discover that there's actually a great band behind the facade.
Awe man...LOVE HOW THIS CHICK IS DIGGIN' THE GROOVE. THEN ACE'S SOLO COMES IN....
AND SHE'S HOOKED...!!!❤🥰❤🥰❤🥰❤🥰
I am in my seventies and I still love KISS.
Much love
Gene Simmons is also a marketing genius
Can’t hear this without thinking of Seann William Scott in the film Role Models. Funny movie
Been a KISS Fan since 1977! Welcome to the KISS ARMY! 😁SOOO many great songs! They even have a KISS Kruise where the band plays on the ship every year! You two should really check out "God of Thunder". I don't know if you've done "BETH" yet but it won a peoples choice award!"ILOVE IT LOUD"Many, many more!🤘
Greatest band of all time. Period.
Brad is growing y’all! I love it! You guys are so much fun!
I just saw Kiss in 2019 and they still put on an amazing show!
Carefull getting too close to the love gun, it might go off and make a mess😜
I'm gonna write a song called Protein Cannon
You wouldn't like Paul's voice today :)
Best reaction ever on this channel! More KISS please.
This song always sounded larger than life to me as a kid. Kiss at its grandest
Aug 13th 1978 in portland Oregon. Was an awesome spectacle. A rock opera combined with some kick ass guitar solos
"Mom give me back my fuking drumsticks... please" - Jam
"That's why I have hearing loss now" LOL You all kill me.
Enjoy The Rabbit Hole You Found, your gonna love it. 😁❤🤘
Kiss alive one of the best all time albums!
