More and more I see Simmons putting the old Ocean things back...quads out of the drill, faster tempo for drilling, hit 40yds first, Ocean beat from the right side coming out of the hole, interacting with the crowd during the drill and dance routine, symmetry with percussion. He's also really cleaned up alot of things, wonderful. Just wonderful. And that sound. Wonderful! They sound like a giant jazz-funk-soul big band. I KNOW Prof Butler is so proud! Ocean alum 01-03, section leader. Law school grad. Lemme gone n give some money...
By far the best show from what I've seen. I can't say I'm surprised. This was high energy, precision packed, and crisp sounding field show. TXSU actually kept you engaged and this one of few swac bands where the field show is an afterthought. I'm glad to see Mr. Simmons has kept TXSU close to it's tradition while incorporating some new ways of doing things. This is still recognizable as the Ocean of Soul. Those euphos still making some big time noise.
I’m not even done watching the video and I have already gone through so many different emotions of awe and excitement! Simmons/staff/students have literally restored excitement back into drilling, precision, and trying different daring things all while maintaining the TXSU swag that makes them so unique! Love this band Simmons/staff are literally some young hungry entertainment geniuses!!!!

I crabbed 06 and I'll never take anything away from Gip and what he did for the ocean....but these new niggas on a whole other level. I knew there had to be a better way to pull off drills man lol. we used to spend so much time out there for some OK field shows. The game to go to is the southern and Texas Southern game. The reason being , it will be back in Baton Rouge and Houston home games instead of Dallas. This upcoming fall the game would be in Baton Rouge. The game was crazy Last fall in Dallas 0 quarter was lit. Halftime was crazy and the ocean and the jukebox went over 15 rounds in the fifth. This will be the rivalry game and possibly better than the boombox classic.

The fact that this song was only played at the very end of that historical movie, but yet was thought of in the consciousness of the Director or Arranger to be played on this field, shows the Director and arranger know their soundtrack history. 💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥
What an INCREDIBLE performance TSU Ocean Of Soul 🌊. TSU definitely had the best band there, from all the bands that I've seen so far. I still have to watch Alabama State and Langston though. TSU sound, as well as both precision drills were well on point. TSU has made a complete turn around. The flags were awesome as well. Motion field show was truly OUTSTANDING! Motion and SU Dolls are the TOP 2 teams when it comes to the field from what I've seen. Well done Mr. Simmons, Danielle Stamper and Staff! ♥♥♥♥
I said on crucial conflict they were the best mello section in the SWAC back in September. They then went on to win best mello section in the band head awards show a month or so ago.

Hard to believe this band(The Ocean of Soul) and the Mighty Marching Hornets are the only 2 bands in the SWAC that march System Blue instruments. Thing is, B.A.C Music don't even distribute System Blue Instruments anymore.
su euphoniums are system blue gold lacquer. Are MMH trombones same? We (Ocean) long ago played on the jazz King 3b. I preferred that over Bach and Yamaha.
@dre9926 figures because tone-wise they're very edge-y when the way THEY play on them. That lacquer changes resistance. On trombone I bought a benge 165F in 2002. It has a copper bell a d the lacquer is thicker. Made me so loud it was ridiculous but like a King....in the studio that horn SANG.
