To master this serve, you first need to master the basic techniques of the low serve. You find the tutorial for that here: • Perfect Low Serve, Tip...
When you master this, you can add this small deceptive move to your serve to get better variation on your serve, but also to force your opponent to make mistakes or play bad returns.
    Focus on:
    - Showing the straight serve first
    - Make the deceptive move with arms and upper body just before hitting the shuttle
    - Combine basic movement with the deceptive move.
This serve is not a serve with huge deception in it, but if you do it right it will be tricky for your opponents to see/know you are serving to the side. If you choose to make a serve where you slice the shuttle which is possible, with even more deception the more tricky it will be to do it precise. On low level matches this type is serve can work because the pressure on the serve is not that high, and you can get away with the serve is not that precise 😉
    Good luck!

It's an important point you've made that the deception isn't strong, but enough to possibly get a less attacking reply.
It's not a serve I would use alot, depending on where my opponent is standing.

where is the deception when you rotate to point at where you serve?
If you want to be deceptive you have to slice

Hahaha..my exact same thought 1 second into watching the video. Badminton Famly’s other video on a similar serve achieves same results and that’s VERY deceptive if you slice it and practice it a lot.

Got pretty good at this serve now. Is a behind the back serve legal in match, if it is performed below the waist with no foot movement. Sorry if sounds a silly question.

As many others have commented the large arm movements take away most of the deception. I try to just angle the racket head to slice it to the outside corner, looks like a normal serve until you hit it.

Yes many top players use this technique, also because the placement of the serve is SO important and this technique is very precise as the technique is the same as the normal low serve ☺️

@@pang511 Try angling your racket head to the left just before contact. Shuttle has to go towards the left corner. Look straight ahead at your opponent, swing straight ahead, then twist the racket head at the last moment and flick your wrist a bit towards the left. No need for the large arm movements he's using in the video.

@@FlashGamer521 Whatever works I guess, but I only use the outside serve occasionally so I don't want to be facing that way all the time. Also makes it harder to react when a normal inside serve is returned far to your right, you have to turn further.
