I think the fact that ravens are uncommon there, and having one arrive during your spirit calling, would only solidify how awesome & receptive the landvættir are! Like of all the animals that could’ve arrived, a raven is magnificent. Love watching & learning from your videos. Skól!

Actually of all rituals I saw this one is the closest to what I practice. And yes for some reason, most people simply invent long, useless, often ridiculous rituals with no regard to historical evidences whatsoever. Good job with this 👍.

But history has changed a lot and the Gods are changing with us. I myself are vegetarian, almost vegan, so how can I do blot with blood? I never ever in this life of my body kill the animal. And ancient people used to do this. They were these butchers themselves. So they used to bring blood. Now there are times when meat quickly will go from the laboratory, so what the meaning to bring the meat? Bring to the Gods/spirits what you can do yourself, for example bake nice cake in your kitchen. Believe me, they are taking it and are protecting such person. And yes, ravens or other clear signs are always present.

I've been chewing through your content and this is the first offering I've seen; I'm really grateful to you for sharing this! One of my own offerings/rituals I've come up with is offering my raw energy expended from my run. I offer it to any land spirits, ancestors or gods that wish to receive that energy. People are always asking for things (like christians do when they pray) so I wanted to give something back. This has proved to be borderline dangerous as a few times now I've been filled with seemingly endless energy, my pace becomes stretched out and faster, deep heavy breaths. By the end I almost collapse! Much like the raven coming to visit you I have had so much life and activity surround me on my runs. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this and I hope you don't think it's cringe >_< (Though I don't really care lol I'm not weak and precious) I also have done some blots but I'm very new to it. I stick to full moons and offer good strong beer and whiskey, Fruits and veggies for the land spirits of the area. Once I found a beautiful purple flower and offered it to Hel :) Peace man

    Hi.
Thanks for taking the time to make these instructional vids.
From my perspective as a "noobie", it is a bit of a "mine field" with respect to trying to sort fact from the many distorted Hollywood inspired fantasies.
I am at a stage where I openly (and enthusiastically) acknowledge the existence of our Gods.
I often think of them and their relationship to the World. I think of their relationship to me and of mine to them. And in quiet moments (catching my breath between sets of bench press 😉), I speak to them. Curiously, I feel stronger, more...umm...alive.
I hope they feel the collective awakening amongst us, and can forgive our clumsiness, much as a father accepts the inevitable stumbles of his children as they take their first unsteady steps.
    Once again, thankyou.

The counter-clockwise - life and clockwise - death, is exactly the opposite of what I saw at Ojibwe and Oneida pow-wows in the 1990's in Eastern Wisconsin and Northern MN. I was told that clockwise was sunwise and meant life. Also there was a YT video years ago where old Indigenous people who had been in some of the Hollywood movies back in the day, deliberately performed the pow-wow circle to the left so Hollywood couldn't use it.

Hey man, I've found that you can buy beef and pork blood that's intended for cooking, frozen in a little circular container. The red stuff on meat in stores is not blood. It's a protein found in flesh that oxidizes similarly to blood which causes it to be red, and as meat sits for awhile unfrozen it starts losing the ability to hold water so it starts "bleeding" which is actually just water and some of that protein coming with it.

Loved the visitation by the crow...and you know he returned for that offering 😉
Too bad Cali is such a long state. A mere 12 hr drive north and we could have celebrated on the NorCal beach whilst our partners could chit chat.
Mine sadly worked in reverse as my raven couple suddenly decided to abandon the nest they'd been building for the past 3 wks and head a few acres south of my pastures. Still, it was the first appearance of Ravens for us here in years as our Hawks are very well-established. Considering my nidstang has yet to be completed, I took their leaving as a sign of change and to complete the staff.
I've suddenly been visited by several coyotes all captured on game cam. Since my nidstang will be topped by a coyote skull, I have been VERY excited by their arrival. I have been toying with starting kulning but like you and your not wishing to sing during this blot, have lacked the confidence to practice. Maybe practicing into a pillow would prevent neighbours from calling the cops! 😄

Your practice reminds me a bit if the Maori's. At least the calling in of the spirits of the elements of the area. And the use of a natural instrument. The Maori's are the first people of New Zealand and they have different practices. They use Karakia ( intication ) to call in their ancestors and Atua's ( god's) for guidance and to receive signs but also to give thanks. When they sing it calls Waiata.Their music instruments are made out of natural resources and crafted with Karakia ( intication that comes from the heart )and is crafted into a beautiful art piece. Everything they craft has a story and meaning. The music instruments are called Taonga Puoro.

Not without it messing with the "historically accurate" part, as for the norse and most Scandinavians even most Europeans survival relied on meat and animal by products, vegetarianism just wasn't an option.
Also depends on what type of vegetarian you are or if your vegan.
I'd say personally , eggs, raw honey, raw honeycomb, raw milk, local foraged mushrooms, tree sap as a blood maybe?, fish or even fish blood also.
Also it seems a lot of these rituals historically involved horse blood, horses and horse meat so a majority of people can't get that full historic accurate anyway.
For me personally being a hunter I'm hopeful to hunt a fox, rabbit, redfin perch, carp, mouse or bird, deer and possibly a kangaroo if all works out, mainly because they are all pests to a certain degree in my area and there is still land to hunt on around here.
Not to be rude but I really don't know if vegetarianism or veganism can go hand in hand with paganism, unless you can find a way a certain level of comfort around blood like you don't have to eat it or drink it but use it, it is after all a very ancient practise heavily involved with nature, survival, life, death etc.
I'm know pro on this though just stating suggestions off mind.

@@norsemagicandbeliefs8134 I am not personally attacking you. I am a bit surprised that you answered. Regardless, sacred spaces are a real phenomenon. They were called "friþgeard" in Old English and "friðgarðr" in Old Icelandic. They were stakes that had ropes wrapped around the altar. The purpose of having a frith-yard is create a place of worship modeled after the cosmology of the Eddas. You would also need something called a "need-fire" where you carry fire around the frith-yard three times while chanting a hallowed formula. The need-fire represents Heimdall. Heimdall was born from nine mothers or "wood-wives" and Heimdall is the god of the hearth fire. The altar should face northwards as it is attested from Vegtamskvidha that "Odin prays to the North" and "enters Hel through Helgrindr" which are the gates and to entering Hel. This is the lay where Odin resurrects a volva and interrogates her on who will be Baldrs killer. Before lighting the fire, you can chant something called "Heimdall's galdr" or "Heimdall' spell" which is essentially a prayer to Heimdall before lighting the fire pit. Heimdall guards Asgard from his abode Himinbjörg. Thus, the fire pit represents this symbolically. When praying, you should conduct your prayers into sacred verse forms called "Ljóðaháttr". It is attested in Ynglingasaga or Grímnismál (can't remember at the moment) that Odin speaks in verse forms. Therefore, when praying to the gods, you want to speak in this manner. When you are praying and offering to the gods, you want to do it in a solemn setting i.e. on a mountain, waterfall, grove, sanctuary etc. None of this is from Wicca. So when there is a video that says "how to practice disablot historically as a possible" I was disappointed and voiced my opinion. You can either look into some of the things I typed or disregard it completely.

@@thebrownhound1343 Its started that way but this is the most interesting comment i have seen today so I'll reply. Sacred spaces are important but, friðgarðr is only mentioned as a place for a law/thing area in the sources and no Norse sources name it as a place for a blot. But I will admit there are a few archaeological finds that suggest this and probably did perform some blots there. There is also 1 source that names a chain around the temple but the actual offering was at a spring nearby(Source Adam of Bremen Gesta Hammabugensis). Most of the sources though mention that blots were done at a simple Hörgr(stone pile/altar), which I also have in my video.
I do like how you used a source to face your alter North. But I face mine East since that is the direction that the gods are said to reside(Source Lokasenna, Prose Edda).
No idea where on earth you got the need-fire or the cosmology setup or symbolism of Heimdall/fire. That is nowhere in any of the old norse sources. If thats not from a 70s Wicca book then it is some neo-Asatru book based on wicca. Thats just if you even have a source at all for any of that?
I also do like you basing your method of prayer on the sources........But there too, we have absolutely 0 records of any prayer/"Hollowed formula" being used at any blot. There probably was but nothing to prove it. I know this very well because I am writing a book compilation of every Norse prayer we have records of.
The truth is we have almost no sources on how to perform a blot. But I have included all of them in the videos in the links below. Even did a video on the few sources we have speaking only about Disablot.
You can watch those to get the original historical sources if you want. But you are free to practice your blot anyway you feel fit. Just don't criticize someone staying as close to the historical sources as possible when 90% of what you do is some neo-pagan ritual someone invented in the last few decades.

@@norsemagicandbeliefs8134 There are no actual sources on a blót. Hence all version of it are "neo-pagan" however this is reconstructing something that has been lost for centuries. My comment has been rushed a little so I will elaborate on a few things.
When I typed "hallowed formula" it is essentially a prayer. Perhaps wording it in this manner made it sound new age but I prefer to see it as reconstruction. Here as an except from Theodism on this prayer. The following prayer is said when holding the need-fire around the frith-yard or enclosure. Bear in mind, that stones circled around a square were also used as well.
      "Hearg ic halge
      To heofones esum
      Eorðe ælfum and ealdorcynnum
      Gehalged to Þunore
      Gehalged to Wodene
      Gehalged to Seaxneat"
      Translation:
      "Horg I hallow
To the Aesir of the heavens
(To) earth's elves and elder kin
      Hallowed to Thor
      Hallowed to Odin
      Hallowed to Saxnot"
Even though this isn't attested and may stand on a weak basis, it still nevertheless calls upon the deities consecrate the place of worship. The source I got this from was Theodish belief and is not my prayer. This is what Theodsmen do of the Winland Rice.
The source of Heimdall being born of nine mothers is very difficult to prove. However,in Voluspa, it mentions that Heimdall is born from nine wood wives or "Íviðjur". These nine wood wives turn the world mill and Heimdall is born from them. The lost "Heimdals galdr" may have explained how Heimdall was born from nine íviðjur or wood wives. In cross-cultural references, the Vedic deity Agni is born from ten fingers. The Hindus have fire altars dedicated to Agni as his fire lifts their prayers into the heavens. In a similar function that Heimdall does when he oversees Asgard and Midgard from Bilröst/Bifröst/Ásbrú. Hence, the sacred space, whether it be stakes with rope or stones surrounding it represents Asgard. The need-fire represents Heimdall. Heimdall protects Asgard from the Jotnar as the sacred fire signifies him. As you may know, Hinduism is related to the European polytheistic faiths that have been lost due to Christianization.

@@norsemagicandbeliefs8134 I apologize for my comment. Wasn't expecting you to answer not it nor see it. However, some of what you typed helped me understood how to send offerings. It is nice to exchange ideas. RUclips can be a troll platform but nonetheless some of the information was helpful. However, there is no real attestation on a blót. Perhaps there was a song about a blót from Jacob Grimm's Deutsche Mythologie. I will watch the videos you linked.
