I panicked when I turned 60 and realized I had $30K in credit card debt with nothing saved for retirement. No assets (home, car) or investments either. So I got busy fixing my problem. I started my own online reselling business, cut expenses to the bone and paid off all my debt. I went through my budget and cut at least 10% from every expense. Luckily, my rent has stayed the same! 4 years later, I'm debt-free with a solid emergency fund and 6-figure savings. Financial security is the best gift you can give yourself.

Taking care of items resonated with me. I have found, keeping organized(so you know what you have) and taking care really does save money and extend the life of even the most inexpensive item.

I started doing the same around 50 years old too. I cannot say that I am a complete minimalist but quite close too. I feel much better having less around me. I feel free and lighter. If I buy something, something else has to go.

My weakness is paying for convenience. Since covid I have not entered a grocery store. Instacart is just so convenient and it will be a hard habit to break. Thanks for sharing your practical tips!❤

If you have a car you could pick up from a grocery store and you wouldn’t have to enter. Maybe you have checked this out in your area? It’s been a lifesaver for me.
This was a very helpful list. Some of them are things I already do, but some are things I know but have not gotten too yet. I would love a video on what are your basic cooking routines, shopping routines, etc. For sure I love the library but since the pandemic don't go often. I mostly borrow things I can read on my phone. Everybody tells me to get a kindle, but I hesitate to spend more. Those pictures of your library are just gorgeous!

Hi Dana, can I add one from my list :-). Expressing gratitude each day - regardless of how small that expression might be. I have a morning routine that I follow every day. Journal what I am grateful for and then walk 45 minutes. I have been following this for years and overall I am a very happy person. (btw - i will definitely check out that library - thanks for the tip!)

I wish perfect healing with your eye Dana. My goals for 2025: Live a more organized and simple life. Sell things that no longer have a purpose at this stage of my life. I already do many of the things you listed. Wonderful video and wise advice.

I'm not into weighing myself, tracking calories or macros, counting steps, etc. But what I did find eye-opening, easy, and FUN was trying to eat 30 different plants per week. My husband and I each kept a running list, and while I eat far healthier than he does, he actually beat me last week -- even though I cheated and counted coffee as a plant, LOL?! Friendly competition!
PS. That's the most beautiful library I've ever seen! And how incredible you went there as a child. What a treasure!

this is fabulous coz u mention food fs2:33.. after I resign 33yrs under governmental supervisions I've gain weight drastically and hopefully this year @62 a frugally planned recipe won't b that much too late😅.. thanks 4d FOMO term I did not know and most 4d continuity of may seem small yet r essentially crucial to life s a whole🙏

Bay Area has the best bargains, flea markets and yard sales ! I wish I could've shopped more when I was visiting San Jose, San Bruno, Dublin and San Ramon.

Super tips, Dana, and thanks so much for showing your library. It is beautiful!⠀ For 2025, I will focus on using what I have before purchasing anything else. I hope you are healing well and will be able to return to the gym soon. I had cataract surgeries in September and October and had similar post-surgery orders so I substituted daily walks in my neighborhood instead 💜

I hope you're healing well from your surgery.
One suggestion for you to get more subscribers : Film your exploration through town as you go instead of just adding the footage. Give your tips as you go.
Shopping, trips, restaurants, reviews, saving items, repurposing, budgeting, homemade cooking, and things like that get a lot of views from what I noticed.
Invite your audience to join your journeys with you. It takes more time to do it, though, because of the editing process.
I always appreciate videos with straight to the point tips, others may enjoy the whole process by watching and getting more involved and entertained.

Thanks so much for your suggestions Cariocajin, I could try that at some point! Next month i'll be babysitting my grandbaby while my daughter goes back to work so its going to be really hard filming, i might need to wait until baby Malia has more daycare! I have made a few vlogs, day in the lifes... and they don't seem as popular as my more straightforward videos, and they take a lot of time and effort to make! But maybe i change up the topic to frugal living and decluttering. I really appreciate your suggestions and feedback so keep them coming! I appreciate you as always!! 🥰❤️🎉

Hi Dana I was just wondering if the Oakland goodwill outlet is open again? Btw love this video I turn 62 next month and worked luxury retail for many years and spent crazy money on clothing even with my employee discount 1000 dollar dress would be 500 when I quit and started reselling I have not purchased anything full price in 7 years and I love this life so much better 🥰
Hi Enid, yes it is open! Its in the building, not outside anymore and its open from 7-5. OMGosh, even with a 50% discount i bet those items were still crazy expensive!! I'm so happy that your life has improved with reselling...maybe also from this stage of our lives? I love being ALMOST retired, hahaha!
