    I lived there from 1962 to 1965 and by then, there were very few traces of the war years left.

      A British officer who was part of the occupation of the Ruhr in mid 1945 said; "These Germans are amazing they've already reopened "X" destroyed bridges. Quote from a colleague who was there in the early 1950s " I'll tell you how they built that country up. I did my national service there in the 1950s they worked day and night under floodlights"

      I would have imagined that would have been the case in the Western Sectors, I remember visiting the East Sector around 1985 and some of it was still run down

      @@woodenseagull1899- and it is that kind of foolish thought held in 1919, that led to a second Great War which rent Europe and the world just over 20 years later; it’s said that those who don’t learn from history are condemned to repeat it……….

    The Berliners look cleaner and richer than the British in 1947……..Britain was such a dirty hovel by comparison to Germany

      That is true because they were still trying to be a world power. After Suez in 1956 the Prime Minister McMillan had the sense to dump the empire and start spending money on Britain. I was in the construction industry in the early 1960s and it was booming as the money came through for housing projects.

      @@doug6500 Modern day GERMANY is Soulness, ridged, humourless and self entitled. Their contribution to the human race is the huge number of Cemeteries across Europe...!

      @@doug6500 - Nonsense...Today it is a wonderful, modern, futuristic city, so full of life and with such an international environment. I love Berlin.

    Berlin less then 24monrhs after WW2 and everyone is dressed classy and streets are relatively clean alot better then most US cities 2023.⬅️fact
