Thanks for the excellent video, a great explanation on the stockies ref hook ups, I was pulling my hair out this week on a large res, lost 5 fish and couldn’t understand why, now I do, and as it happens I found out later there had been a recent stocking ! Always very interesting to see you try new things bucking the tradition to try differently, thanks again

For years my self and so many others have always gone with the myth of stock fish with soft mouths. But it never sat well with me. So about 2 years ago I had the opportunity to study stock fish more closely. And when doing this I used five patterns. From a small 16 natural up to a size 10 apps. Fishing the same shoal of stock fish. It was amazing to watch. Seeing them pay very little attention to the small natural. I did get a few on it, but it was difficult. As I worked my way up towards the apps. Our red weighted one. The difference was amazing. ALL patterns attracted fish. But the difference from the small natural and the apps, as I have said amazing. Each cast had at least four plus fish follow it, and bumping it. And a few to the net. And as we now know, a few lost. All this is on a video on the channel. Can't remember at mo which it is. But if your interested let me know. I will find it. Great to hear from you John. Thanks for the comment mate. Take care. Shaun.

Hi Shaun, great to see you back. I’m sorry you’ve been having a tough time and I’ve missed your videos a lot. This one was brilliant…as with every seasonal change I check back to see what I need to do so the timing of this film was perfect. I love the way you’ll give up the prospect of catching more fish just to see which technique works better …..taking one for the team as they say. Our local lake has had problems with stocking for months now so we are down to the bare bones and only very cautious residents left. Saying that in five hours last Saturday I only had two takes…..but the second fish was a very fit double so it has its advantages over catching stockie after stockie. The big fish took a tiny buzzer about three feet from the shoreline. I was lucky enough to see him take the fly with a twist of his head so managed to strike at the right time. Exiting stuff. Keep up the good work Shaun ….cant wait for the next video.👏🎣

Ye been a bit shit to be honest. Never seen it coming. Still in the middle of it. But with time I am getting used to it. A lot of waters are finding things difficult. Its the changes we are experiencing. But for those who can understand whats happening, will benefit. Us boys often switch methods to try things as appose going to the go to method. We find it more interesting. But if you are more interested in numbers, then you would not be doing this. But then what do you learn. That was a cracking fish. My best fish, which was in the water for about three months. I know this as the fishery manager told me. He had put three 20lbers in, and nobody had hooked one. I could see the fish about three foot down. Going around in the same bit of water all the time. It was like watching a basking shark feed. The fish would not chase anything. Just opened its mouth and sucked it all in. Well, my black buzzer was in its path. Great to hear from you mate. Take care. Shaun.

With regard to the nymphs and such imitations of real life aquatic bugs, I have had little to no success from them in the small lake I frequent, be that pulled very slowly or suspended as well as a few other methods of fishing them for the resident fish, the freshly stocked rainbows will take almost anything put in front of them. I am still trying to find out what the residents are eating, as when you catch one it is in prime condition, I was thinking it was surface flies, but I do find that it is usually the smaller fish that are caught. Lures always work well for all the fish, I just cannot get past the use of naturals as I am a river fisherman at heart and as such all those lures are something we rarely use on the rivers. Regards and nice to see your videos again.
