    Salad dressing: Dijon mustard, crushed garlic, crushed basil, s&p, balsamic vinegar (or raspberry vinegar) shake well. Let it sit. You will never miss the oil!

      sometimes you can find things in like ross and marshalls or stores that them and you find their food area and they can be cheap depends on what you get.

    Keep avocado in fridge so it won’t ripe. Take it out one or two days in advance to let it ripe and you’ll get the perfect avocado

      You can also freeze ripe avocados and when you want to use them, just take out of the freezer, thaw, peel and use as desired

    I loved that someone who uses healthy ingredients taught about saving money. Generally I skip such advice because cheap food makes me sick. I call paying extra $ for quality ingredients my health insurance.

    I love that Jenna promoted eating real healthy food.I also like that she promoted the use of natural oils like Olive and avocado instead of the industrial seed oils like canola and soybean. She also pointed out all the additives of traditional peanut butter. Nice to see good natural salt like Himalayan. Too bad most doctors know less about nutrition than she does.

    During the summer I will buy fruits and veggies in bulk when on sale or farmers market and process it and flash freeze at home. I do the same with half of my home grown produce. Also don’t forget that you can use your air fryer as a dehydrator. Especially great for drying herbs.

    I agree with the quality clothes. I almost never buy new clothes anymore. Just a couple of things, or replacing an item that gets worn out. Another thing I do, is to remove the labels of the non-brand items, often they look "cheap". I also save the containers from an exclusive brand, like bodylotions etc, and I refill them with the cheaper products. The shopping for expensive items is often emotional or you love how the container looks. I put my laundry soap and softener in glass containers/Mason jars. Looks so much better.

      I hung onto the pump bottle from the Method brand of grapefruit scented dish detergent - a one-time splurge. Now I refill it with Palmolive or Ajax (least expensive per ounce) dish detergent. I love having a pump dispenser in the kitchen instead of the bottle you have to grab and tip to dispense. A lot of those type bottles have the paper label that tends to deteriorate from getting wet. The Method pump dispenser doesn’t have the paper label, so it’s neater.

    • @lovethemflowers
      @lovethemflowers 3 года назад

      @ JAMIEKEWL23 - I joined Sam’s Club a couple of months ago. LOVE their gas prices! I buy mainly paper towels, facial tissue and bath tissue in the store. I might start buying Palmolive there.

    • @lovethemflowers
      @lovethemflowers 3 года назад +2

      @JAMIEKEWL23 - the savings on gas is worth the price of membership. When I joined in February, membership was $45, and they handed me a $45 gift card to spend in the store (bought the paper products I mentioned before). Gas is usually ten or as much as twenty cents cheaper than other stations in the area. I’m not the typical customer who leaves with a cart loaded with family sized packages of food. I prefer the normal sized packages that I get at Aldi or Walmart. I don’t have room to store the family sized packaging.

    • @lovethemflowers
      @lovethemflowers 3 года назад

      @JAMIEKEWL23 No gas station would be a deal breaker for me. When I was a member of BJ's, I drove out to one that I found had no gas station as well. I was surprised, I assumed all of them had gas stations. I gas up every week, only need paper products every six to eight weeks, so a warehouse club with a gas station is a must.

    I think a good way to minimize cost on clothing while keeping good quality is trying a capsule wardrobe. I absolutely love it! Keeps me in check when going shopping. I actually wear everything I buy and love each and every piece in my closet. Plus I have way less but better quality.

    • @MR3DDev
      @MR3DDev 5 лет назад +13

      Water, electric, don't waste it, only use what you need. Cable? why do you use cable in 2019? Fuel in car? Other than carpool I don't think she'll have an answer for you, if you own a gas hog there's no way around it. That's my 2 cents

      Have some tips for you if you wanna save fuel. Lift your foot off the gas long before intersections, look ahead and regulate with the gas pedal instead of the break. (Can be summarized as use the break as little as possible as you turn your gas into heat instead of motion. Never idle longer then 6-10 seconds, remove any unnecessary cargo or weight from the car. Keep good distance to the car in front, don't accelerate fast. Decellerate uphill and accelerate down hill if possible. And drive at optimum speeds for many cars that is around 50. Depending on your driving stile and car this can save you 10-20 %

    I am working on building up my quality clothing and totally agree on quality over quantity for most things. Have to disagree about jeans though because they just wear out on me due to how much I wear them, so I get the moderately priced ones that last about 2 years then repurpose the fabric in my sewing room for projects.

    This was great....thank you! I do many of these things already.
    Spending on a few quality pieces is important to me also. I have one designer work bag that I invested in and have used for over 3 years ...it often holds 2 laptops, wallet, shoes, lunches and more. It was worth the investment to me.
    For shoes and clothes I'll have one or two quality neutral items in each catagory (suit separates, shoes, jewelry, etc.) And then sub in less expensive/sale trendier pieces to dress up my wardrobe and make it look different.
    The one that always stumped me was saving my making your own almond milk. I can buy store brand organic almond milk 64oz for under $2 every day (multiple stores here have it). I guess maybe it's just a lot more expensive in other places?

    I rarely purchase winter coats keeping them for upwards 10-20 years but do add accessories such as new scarves, gloves etc as I live in Maine. I also have lots of coats and boots a pair of which is over 20 years old and still in great shape. I now work where I can wear jeans everyday so have 6 pairs and have several inexpensive dresses which I update with sweaters or shrugs depending on the weather ( dresses we're $10 at Walmart & are sleeveless )

    I scored some gorgeous Badgley Mishka d'Orsay pumps on ebay. Some low black heels that are comfortable. And then some higher white heels that are full-on d'Orsay. I got the first pair for 65, the second pair for 100. But let me tell you, whenever I put either of these on, I feel like a million bucks! Each of them have very tiny flaws, but no one can spot them when you're not looking up close.

They even have $3 off for every $10 spent on Unilever products like Dove and P & G. I also buy at Food 4 Less instead of Ralph's. I install Flipp app where all circulars are uploaded each week so I know beforehand what is on sale for every grocery store. Sometimes Vons will have 2 dozen toilet paper for $ 5 so I stock up. So true. I switched to weekly meal planning and buying only what I need for the week making sure I plan to use all leftovers too. It makes a huge difference. Also, stick to interchangeable staples. If a recipe calls for an unusual ingredient, substitute it for something you have and will use (Google for options), otherwise you end up with half used jars of things going to waste.

    I was a translator with many international clients. I know through my career that when you pay for a brand, you are paying for the image they sold you not for the product itself. Products are *almost* the same made by a holding/mother company owning all of the other brands you think are in competition with each other. It's a deliberate marketing tactic making you think you have choice based on how individual you are while they are selling the same thing in different colours. For example, professional Caucasian middle-class ladies get the advertising campaign with Nicole Kidman in it and pay $300 and the colour scheme is hues of magnolia and ''antique pink'', then the product is rebranded with another ''hip'' image for the urban community getting J-Lo to advertise for it for $100 after changing some characteristics (fragrance is one of them like changing from petonia to rose fragrance which costs only half a penny extra for example) and the colour scheme is gold. Then finally, the product is rebranded again for $30 and targeted at the younger community with Mylie Cyrus and a girl power thing going on, etc etc, until it hits Walmart or Costco for a dollar with no branding at all for ''poor people''.
    The biggest irony is that when I started shopping for food by ingredients not by brand name, I found that some of the cheapest non-brands out there had the healthiest ingredients. My granola is the cheapest white box on the shelf. It has no sugar and no preservatives LOL The general idea is that if it's not sweet enough and doesn't last long after the customer opens the packet, that will make people think of it as an inferior product because most people don't read ingredients. My favourite store-own fish fingers have more fish mince than the leading brand, the cheapest burger I buy has real onions in the mince not rehydrated power (that requires adding an anticaking agent), fine sea salt has anticaking agent because people aren't bothered to buy a grinder and twist their wrists a couple of times! There are branding companies earning millions because they know they can count on our vanity, ego, and laziness. I have known about the branding hoax since late 1990s.

    I am the same. I buy fewer clothing but I buy quality. I look for basic colors that I can mix and match. I will buy the best quality in my shoes, my bras and my eyes (exams and eye glasses.) I cannot replace my feet or my eyes. I have five pairs of shoes only and Keenes fit my narrow heels and wide toebox best. I only have these 1) Keene waterproof hiking boots for walking the dog, hiking and outdoor exploring 2) black sandles (for summer dressier days) 3) short anle lenght black leather Keene boots for jeans with a nice safety base for ice and snow (I live in snowy Michigan and age 70 I have to watch that I do not slip and fall and break a hip) 4) a pair of sneakers for my exercise classes 5) A pair of knee high black boots for dressy/winter. That is it. That's is all I need. Keens are fairly expensive (About $135.00 plus orthodicits for plantar fascioisitus)) but they last and last. And they fit COMFORTABLY too!

    Hey Rachel! I LOVE spending money on clothes also and my sister-in-law just taught me a neat shopping trick for Belk. I like getting clothes, but I also like getting deals so I usually shop on the cheaper side (like walmart, ross, target, etc.) But like you, I realized that the cheaper brands left me spending MORE because the quality was not good. So I started shopping the Belk clearance racks (the red sale signs that are all over the store that say the prices are anywhere between 2.99-9.99). Before I knew the trick, I wasn't happy with the sections because the price tags indicated that more than the price on the rack. BUT those red prices written on the tag are NOT the final prices.. You have to scan the clothes and then you will see that there really are great quality brands for 2.99, 4.99. even $1! I went shopping the other day and spent $40. I shopped crown & ivy, new direction, Kim Rogers, etc. I bought 8 full outfits. My receipt said I saved $358!! So for people who want to save on their clothes, but want clothes that will last, shop belk clearance! I can't shop anywhere else now!
