Just curious, have any of you three played Jedi Survivor last year, or since launch? I beat it last year, and I've been getting back into it since it has the great new PS5 performance mode. It was one of my very favorite games I played last year, it's really a brilliantly designed and labyrinthine metroidvania game.
Gene captured how I feel about Stellar Blade really well, I find myself running towards enemy encounters and wanting to master the combat. After playing 16 and Rebirth, a shorter experience with less focus on story is exactly what I was looking for.
I knew Gene would push back against the whole stellar blade discourse, but his points just suck… Korean people are people or color, yes, but this game is not telling a culturally relevant story about South Korean heritage or its people. It is widely agreed that the story is at best serviceable. If it were something like Ghost of Tsushima, I could maybe look past a character character design like this but it’s not anything like that. Giving a character huge boobs and ass and putting them in skintight suits does nothing for Korean people, so Gene shouldn’t act as if this is some beacon of inclusivity. And him referencing Tifa as a point of comparison is hilarious. That’s a nearly 30-year old character design from the PS1 era and we all know how poorly portrayed women were in video games back then.
Tbf she's an android. So she's not even human. But she's a cool character. She may not be carrying Korean heritage or anything. But she is a cool heroine or role model, and her design is undeniably Korean. Yes she has alot of sex appeal, but she is also a pretty badass character, she is a very capable and strong character and she is a hero for humanity.
He said the character was scanned from, voiced by, and made by Koreans. "It's a Korean product through and through" What is this "point" you disagree with?

By your logic Cloud, Sephiroth and other male characters from videogames would be a poor portrayal of Men. For anyone wondering about Gene’s “3 star” review. The Washington Post uses a 4 star review system. So 3 stars is good. Also thanks for reading my question! No Rest for the Wicked is a lot of fun already even in early access. I’ve played about 20 hours and seen just about everything that’s there right now and I love it. Putting it down for now to play Stellar Blade and other games but I will be back to check in on it, and really hope it comes to PS5 for the 1.0 release. It’s a beautiful looking game.
love the ending talking about the dreamcast, with SEGA giving us remakes and ported so many games to pc- why not a Dreamcast mini, you include skies of arcadia, and I buy it at day 1!
I haven't seen too many other reviews, but Gene so far is the only one to point out that Eve not having a personality is part of the story. I definitely trust Gene's word over any other when it comes to this game.
She's a fish out of water character. She sounds bland bc many things she sees in the game are brand new to her, she has no point of reference. She's curious and interested in things from Earth though. Sometimes she's so abruptly honest that it comes out funny, almost like a child.
I don't think it really matters if it's part of the story. The writers can make the story be whatever they want, and even if the story plays into her lack of personality, they still chose for that to be the case and it's clear why. Look at someone like Quiet in MGSV. She has a lore reason for her outfit but that doesn't remove the agency of the author. Not saying that there's anything wrong with it. Nothing wrong with the game, especially since the industry has gotten a lot better with female representation on the whole. You can have overly sexualized (not attractive, as is frequently being used as a synonym in this disucssion when it is not) characters, but I don't think there's any point in trying to deny the very clear intent behind the character. Gene even says he feels like he's playing a sex doll sometimes and that's not by accident.
What a coincidence that of all the wild tales Gene likes to tell, he somehow fails to mention his time writing and producing the 1998 bastard version of Godzilla! We're on to you, buddy!
Stellar Blade's OST was done in part by the NieR composer Okabe's company. He himself was unfortunately not involved in the OST. Regardless it sounds great.
I wonder sometimes if Gene is even playing the same game as all of us. Stellar Blade does have decapitations and severing of limbs during combat. One could argue that it’s not as blatant as Dead Space but I do think there should be a bigger discussion about how certain games are rated compared to other games.
yeah you’re right. to clarify, dead space is a game about surgical player led decapitation. plenty of cuts in sb, but it’s without intention, so the violence isn’t as intense even if it’s visually similar. but you’re right

I'm thinking I should try the Stellar blade demo again. I didn't like it when I first went through it. It was just kind of slow and janky, I didn't like how the combat felt, I don't know

Born in Stavanger, Norway to Italian-Irish mother and Norwegian father. Now if he meant the VO actor for the Korean version is Korean, well that’s probably true for all games with Korean VO. What is going on here and why are the other co host not calling this out.
reminder: stellar blade is an extremely rare console single player game from korea. we don’t often hear korean vo in the west because we rarely see korean games outside of the phone. so yes obviously korean vo is in every korean game, and now it’s here in a rare korean made AAA playstation backed exclusive console game.

The upcoming GOTY - METAPHOR. So then we are closing in on a winter sale and then... sure, perfect time and price most likely!

Why is no one complaining that materia and level doesn't carry over from first game...yet it's gonna be worse from thus entry because they raise level cap to an achievable 100...but when game 3 starts we'll be level 1....HOW DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE? #worstFFprojectever
They are seperate games. Since when does any sequel give you a level from the previous game. If it was a DLC sure, but a seperate game? What if you only bought the sequel? You’d need to balance a game for people who could be level 50 or level 0. Comon man, think it through.
