O-XPC Networks presents another exclusive episode of 'The Creative Process - Captured Moments' featuring the iconic singer and guitarist Donovan Knox.
Discovered in his teen years back in 1982 by Alec Khaoli, the legendary founder, producer, singer and bass guitarist of the Afro-rock band Harari that ruled the charts from the 60s all the way to this very day with their timeless hits. When Alec Khaoli left Harari to form his other band Umoja, he recruited the young Donovan Knox who was fresh from Durban to join Umoja.
For the production of Umoja's debut album in 1982, Alec Khaoli decided to take Donovan Knox with him to the USA to record at A&M Studios in LA. This was a dream come true for Donovan and an experience of a life time. On realizing Donovan's natural singing ability, coupled with his guitar playing skills, Alec decided that Donovan should be the lead singer and lead guitarist of Umoja. The resulting album, Brown Sugar, became an instant timeless hit, launching Umoja into superstardom and the the musical history books.
In later years, Donovan Knox decided to pursue his long life dream of launching his solo career. His chosen genre, Rock music, may have been influenced by his work with the Afro-rock maestro himself, Alec Khaoli.
This short-form documentary chronicles the captured moments with Donovan Knox, filmed by filmmaker and prolific music video director, Sello Nahshon Khaoli.
This is a rare glimpse into the story behind Donovan Knox's music career spanning from South Africa to the London (UK). We get to see his impressive guitar collection and a music video from his iconic full album, Galaxy, which he recorded in his own studios. Enjoy.
"It was truly a joy and a privilege to hang out with Donovan Knox." - Nahshon K.
