    In this video we talk about the highs and lows or Robert De Niro's career and some of the events that led to his critical demise.

    One of my favorite movies starring De Niro is actually from the exact era you are talking about here, The Intern. It’s not his best movie, but it’s so nice, funny and light-hearted that it stuck with me and became something I resort to during hard times

    But he said he had fun doing these movies. Perhaps he didn't want to be typecasted and wanted to try other roles.

      Hey! Thanks for commenting.
      That's a really good point. He was definitely starting to get typecast in all of the other movies and I'm sure they were fun, but from a solely critical perspective he seemed to reduce his standards around the time mentioned in the video.

    The reason is pretty simple, it's not his ex-wife (possible exception of the last 2-3 years), it's his involvement in establishing the Tribeca Film Festival, starting in 2002. He's also a real estate mogul/investor, and has at least several properties in Tribeca. That's why he's been taking the best checks since then, and why he may be "cash poor" lately with his ex-wife, because he spends it nearly all on real estate.

    Better to be starring in a bunch of bad films with occasional good ones like De Niro than starring in a few films that are consistently subpar like Pacino.

    "Everybody's Fine" is actually pretty good. Up until "The Irishman" (2019) I'd say "Everybody's Fine" (2009) was his last great movie. "War With Grandpa" (2020) isn't too terrible either, I liked it. "All About My Father" (2023) looks pretty funny, too. But I agree, most of his films past 2000 are absolute stinkers. Still a legend, though!

      Don't get me wrong, he's still one of my favourite actors and still has the actings chops. I loved him in Meet the Parents and like you said, Dirty Grandpa. And he has shown to still have really good taste in movies and an ability to step into a great and serious roll, like in The Irishman. But it's undeniable that when you look at his choice of movies over the past 20ish years, they've been significantly worse on average than in the decades prior.

    There was a time when I admired De Niro. No doubt he is a talented actor, but when he behaved as he did I’ve President Trump, it really didn’t sit well with me. Whether you personally like someone or not doesn’t bother me, but when you show yourself to be a bully, that does bother me. I haven’t seen anything that he is in for several years. I don’t watch any of his re-runs.

    What are we talking about here!? They weren't GFather 2 or Dearhunter, but they light-hearted fun and overall good films. E.g Meet the Fockers etc.. Analyse This and That. But then he does Joker and the Irishmen when almost 💯 years old. What else can you ask of a guy? Look at Al Pacino, that a guy u can feel bad about getting up there in years. He hasn't done anything since Devils Advocate. Basically this was factually incorrect, regardless of what the critics think, those movies were generally liked by audiences.

    Because DeNiro was type cast to play gangsters and tough guys but those roles go away as you get older so parts at 80 years old he takes what he can get.They pay him well because he has the name hoping to draw paying movie goers.The cinema is dying and home entertainment is safer too.Plus the people that loved his movies have fallen out with him over attacking Trump.He really should not talk so much.

  • @renatab8293
    @renatab8293 3 года назад +3

    This has been well studied. It is because of his methodology. The Method Acting school believed in becoming the character rather than "pretending to be" or "acting as" the character. What is the difference? Well, if you choose method acting and become the character, you behave in the manner of the character without having to think about it. It is hardwired, rather than actual acting, which is softwired. To do that requires time and actual neuronal changes, new protein synthesis and new connections in the brain itself. However, there lies the problem with method acting: our bodies lose the ability to synthesize protein with age, especially our brains. An older person cannot recover from bruising or scarring as quickly as a young person - neuronal changes become difficult at an even younger age.
    If he had spent his early years learning skills rather than becoming characters, De Niro could have been an actor with a true toolbox of skills.

    • @renatab8293
      @renatab8293 3 года назад +1

      @@Gma00001 Well it is difficult, De Niro is a popular movie star, so it isn't really fair to compare him to actors. He cannot sing, he cannot dance, he cannot do comedy, he could never do lengthy action scenes, he could never do his own stunt work, he cannot do foreign accents or mannerisms. I am not saying he is bad, I am saying he invested all his time in immersing himself (spectacularly) in characters to the expense of the sort of versatility that the generation of actors before him - and today - acquired. I am making a rather nuanced point and you are answering as if I am talking in black and white, good/bad terms. Can anyone really imagine him playing a working class scouser as well as Stephen Graham played an Italian-American gangster in The Irishman? Stephen Graham can spend 6 months with a voice coach, De Niro can't, his time costs too much, a big movie star's time costs more.

      @Gma00001 3 года назад +4

      @@renatab8293
      Sorry but while i respect your opinion, still one of the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
      What do you mean “ it's not fair to compare him to actors”. This guy is well known as actor's actor. He was never a movie star, he was an actor who took acting and method acting as a whole to a new level.
      De Niro cannot sing, True, but that doesn't mean anything. We're talking about pure acting. He can dance obviously, he did it many times. And actually anyone can dance with practice.
      He can also do accents. He did it amazing also and obviously he can play comedy spectacular.
      As far as the other thing... De Niro easily could play the role of Graham. Not as good as him, but good. But imagine Graham do taxi driver or Cape fear lol, that would be Laughable.

    • @Gma00001
      @Gma00001 3 года назад +2

      @@renatab8293
      And you truly confused what acting is. Acting is what De Niro does. He became the character and gave some of the greatest performances in the history of cinema. It's impossible to reach his level. All the other things you mentioned are just imitations. A small part of acting and is something that anyone can do it with practice. But no one can do what De Niro did in his prime. And lol, actually what all those things means if you are not able to give a great performance?
      That's why actors like Graham, Gary Oldman etc can never be great.
      I got your point, but they way you talk is like saying De Niro is not that good, especially when you say it is not fair to compare him to actors lol
      And don't forget there's no one who can do all things. They are firstly humans.
