I've never listen to 9/4/12 and I turned this video on at work thinking it would provide some pleasant background music while I do payroll….11 mins in and now I'm just glued to my screen, headphones blasting, violently head bobbing, not doing payroll. This is some seriously relentless \um/
Been following Umphreys since 2011 they are the best. Drove from calif. To Colorado to lick it in the hot tubs in Glenwood springs then drove through a blizzard to Chicago and did all four nights on New year's. 2017-2018 all I can say is they leave the best memories in my mind. One of many new years. Not going to miss them again like this year
I agree, but their not the kings of improvising.. Widespread panic would take that on no doubt. Umphreys is like a new Phish but not quite as good. But don't get me wrong, Umphreys kills it no question.
Dalton Vradenburg panic is good, but every jam seems to go to the exact same place, herring shredding a peak. these other bands have way more diversity in their jams
Dalton Vradenburg DON'T YOU EVER!! Phish Sucks Balls!! No Comparison....not to mention they cant sing for shit unless they're the kings of being tone deaf.
Dalton Vradenburg UM and Phish dont compare. They sound nothing alike, and Phish is a bunch of talent-less hacks who get WAY too much credit. Their music is so boring I literally fell asleep at one of their shows. Umphreys is the complete opposite of Phish.
This was such a sick show! R.i.p. Andy from Railroad Earth (love Amen Corner) your band was an amazing opening for Umphrey's. You guys killed it that Kashmir ending is still etched in my mind. I was with my best friend and new friends to witness such a sick performance! We traveled 1k miles out of the way for this it was so fucking worth! Thank you!!
Been an Umphrey's fan since I was 14 they had just released Anchor drops albulm picked it up at my local record shop. My pop took me in 2006 to see them for the 1st time . Was my daughter's 2nd concert at 3yo in 2018 she saw moe. at 2 years old
I won a Golden Ticket at scamp in 2012. Got to make a playlist to play in between sets... I chose this show to do it. My favorite Umph show of all time and one of the best weekends of my life!! This shit STILL destroys
I was a DD for these guys a couple weeks back, and I was blown away. My first response was they seemed like a mix of The Grateful Dead and Iron Maiden (AND THEN SOME). They do every song they cover justice, and just jam like no other band I've ever seen or heard. So glad I discovered these guys
I love that to this day, there are still people that take the time to post their thoughts on how much the hate a band. I don't like broccoli but you won't find me whining about it on the internet. Oh wait, I just did.
sullytyme1972 As far as I can tell (and i'm not going to dig too deep into them) most of the negative comments on here are "I felt compelled to give this band another chance and it still isn't doing it for me" In a world where there is an infinite amount of art you can consume at any point, it should be pretty heartwarming that there are still people out there willing to give a band multiple chances to see if it clicks for them. I mean, I could have spent the last 20 minutes listening to any of the tens of thousands of obscure records clogging my external hard drive, maybe I'd find yet another band mixing complex composition and improvisation in a way that jamband kids would adore. Instead I decided to see if I was feeling Umphreys enough to see them yet again. I'm not.
Every time UM comes to NYC, i always go and see them. Cuz they're Genius! Their Tunes just grabs every music lovers of all genre, and get hooked to it...i just love the "Mashed ups"...HAPPY rOCKIN' dUDES!!!
You just gotta see them live. I saw them on New Years at the Tabernacle and it was the best show I've ever been to! My mind was blown! This video is only a small percentage of what these guys are capable of
Umph rocks live. They rock in my car. They rocked at Stubbs bar. I think that there aren't too many bands that jump from genre to genre like Umph while simultaneously rocking your pants off. Avid fans who have heard their stretch of sounds across all releases know full well what I'm referring to. if this song doesn't grab you, fine. but check out an album or two and you'll h'ears what i'm saying.
But the albums really don't give a very good insight into how incredibly mind blowing these guys are live! I personally love the Ocean Billy from Charlotesville, VA, 9/23/11, though this is pretty sweet as well!
but it helps to know the core songs so when you go you can rock out that much more. Theres something special about knowing every note to this song and hearing it live.
Being high enhances an experience, it doesn't ruin it. All the people hating on being high at a concert have obviously never been high at a concert before lol
Jake Cinninger is one of the baddest guitar players on the planet if not the best. The man can do it all. The whole band is epic musicians. Jake steps forward and they go up a key when jamming I read somewhere. Steps back and he goes down a key. Creativity is pretty much unmatched.
i traveled through the mountains from virginia to illinois to see these guys in torrential downpour. i left with no money in my pocket, but memories to last a lifetime. umph rules
I heard you guys on jam radio on sirius and had no idea you had come this far since I saw you back in the Bend. I am definitely going to a show when you come to the southeast!!!!
Me too dude. Saw them at the McDowell Music Festival...Face fu%$in' melted!!! Just absolutely SICK!!!! One of the best shows I've EVER seen. I can't believe I'd never discovered this band before. So frickin' talented, fun, and yeah, mind blowing. Can't wait till the next time.
OMG! I'm so proud of you Jake Cinninger! Look me up on FB man... 20 Years later, you are my fave guitarist, of all, milliniums above before, bvut we all knew you were headed there... Still, your "one note" kills me, with every single nuance... That's why I picked you man... 20 something years ago... Now you are 20 something years even "BETTER"... Wow! Every note is so amazing.... I want to see you man. Play the guitar to me.... You are the absolute best, and most soothing guitarist, to an old , authentic, true musicians soul.
mrkremko1 its hard to understand the pure beauty of their beats, but trust me, this band knows how to put on a show, they are the best band ive seen live and ive seen deftones twice lmao these people are just amazing
I was going to be at this show but that got screwed up thanks to family drama bullshit. I was especially pissed to find out that this show was being filmed for a DVD release. I always wanted to be at a concert that was also being filmed for a DVD. And I ALMOST got to cross that off of my bucket list. Can't see them at Red Rocks this year because I spent a ton to see rush in Tulsa, OK for R40. Definitely didn't want to miss out on what could possibly be Rush's last tour. Especially after the previous Rush show I saw(which was also at Red Rocks) suffered from technical problems. Plus Umphrey's McGee still have many more years left than Rush does. I know Rush won't be going at it for much longer. I'd be surprised to see one more tour from Rush. Hopefully, I'll get to see Umphrey's at Red Rocks next year. I've already seen umphrey's twice. Both shows were at Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa. And I got an autograph from Bayliss back in 2011 :D
Yea this dvd is pretty good ...i love these guys.. been listening to them since 2003 saw them for the first time bonnaroo 2004 ....it's like heroin ..been hooked ever since lol
kinda like the way the other company films their shows better (NYE dvd), but im glad this was the song that was posted for youtube....best jam of the show
People talking about getting messed up to have a good time at a concert saddens me. I love music and usually have to avoid some nut job ruining the show for me with nonsense. I believe I was one of 20 people not high at a Floyd show in the 80's. Boy, did they miss something special. Saw UM when they came to Covington Ky. Itt was great. one of the best "Ocean Billy" versions that they have ever done.. I listen to it six years later and it still gives me goose bumps.... yeah!
One of the best live bands on the planet ! ! ! !
this is top 3 favorite umphreys jams of all time for me
This group really cooks. Makes me dream of younger days gone by. Can't wish for anything but wonderful things for Umphrey's McGee. Keep at it forever!
Such a well executed song and jam. It's just so tight that every time I hear this song, I think of this version.
I saw these guys live for the first time at Lockn this year.
I fell IN LOVE
I fall in love again every time I see them or hear them
Peace and Much Groove.
Welcome to the party. You may enjoy Phish as well. Umph and Phish are the two best Live bands out there right now.
This was one of my favorite shows I've ever been to.. with railroad earth opening was just a blessing.. I love this band so much
I have actually lost count how many times ive watched this.. magnificent
I've never listen to 9/4/12 and I turned this video on at work thinking it would provide some pleasant background music while I do payroll….11 mins in and now I'm just glued to my screen, headphones blasting, violently head bobbing, not doing payroll. This is some seriously relentless \um/
Payroll can wait.. umphreys is shredding on the side of a mountain
Been following Umphreys since 2011 they are the best. Drove from calif. One of many new years. Not going to miss them again like this year
Someone: "No group can have 4 transitions in a song and make it work"
Umphrey's Magee: "Hold my beer"
I have actually lost count how many times ive watched this.. one of ,if not THE best version of this song. Amazing.
I'm so glad I was here for this
these guys play, improvise, and have fun more than any band i've ever seen or heard.
and bayliss has become a much better singer lately.
Huge difference this year in his voice.
I agree, but their not the kings of improvising.. Widespread panic would take that on no doubt. Umphreys is like a new Phish but not quite as good. But don't get me wrong, Umphreys kills it no question.

This is one of the greatest musical performances in existence.
And then you click to watch another Umph live performance...
YEP
@@acewizz7 Indeed. But Brent does speak the truth.
Everything's great on acid
Cymbal at 8:24 is so cool. And the change that begins at 9:46 is incredible....and the transition back into original jam at 15:15 is awesome.
Was at this show. Still gives me goosebumps
This was such a sick show! R.i.p. Andy from Railroad Earth (love Amen Corner) your band was an amazing opening for Umphrey's. You guys killed it that Kashmir ending is still etched in my mind. Such a sick show.. we traveled from southern Illinois to see this show and it was a magical night.. RRE had an amazing set too!
Seeing them on RUclips doesn't even compare to seeing them live.
Does not at all. I see them ever year in indy they are amazing
Darn they must really sick 8n person then cause they sound like ass in all their videos.
@@croaldarksoul9765 lol you said it! they are totally sick 8n person!
These guys are just the greatest stuff man.. Both guitar players are so damn talented!
Thank you to Live For Live Music! I love finding new music.
One of my favorite versions of this song. Good show in general.
I was at this show thank godddd!!! This and that puppet string from this night
Been an Umphrey's fan since I was 14 they had just released Anchor drops albulm picked it up at my local record shop. My pop took me in 2006 to see them for the 1st time . Was my daughter's 2nd concert at 3yo in 2018 she saw moe. at 2 years old
Can’t believe this is 7 years old. Still one of the absolute best Puppets out there
Ocea

amazing...on so many levels....
and the extra delay/echo on brendan's voice really helps him sing. they should do that all the time!
X xx dx x x x. X. DcdcdccdrcdeeadaxAw~
this was such an amazing moment! to be at red rocks for the first time and hear this was really something special
Carmel O'Farrell -- i was there too this was an amazing night!. railroad earth and um doing kashmir!! the best shit
It was beautiful
Yeah man kashmir was insane
really setting the bar high! lol
This band just gets better and better every time I see them live!!
I love that to this day, there are still people that take the time to post their thoughts on how much the hate a band. I don't like broccoli but you won't find me whining about it on the internet. Oh wait, I just did.

Been a few years. This track still kicks ass
they're like an audible kaleidoscope
BEST EVER version of this song! I have to get my fix at least once a week!
My fav band to see live for sure. I love when the duel percussionist jam out.
Hope someone uploads some footage from last night at the NorVa, because these boys were on fkin fire when this banger went off
That was such a fun show. I have a small clip of snucka on my Channel from the norva show that night
@@Vinceramsey311UM damn right dood. I'll hafta check it out 🤙

Melt my face... This band never ceases to amaze me!
Whoever is their light guy does an awesome job!

but it helps to know the core songs so when you go you can rock out that much more. Theres something special about knowing every note to this song and hearing it live.
Absolutely worth the listening too. Their album stuff is top shelf music.
lost track of the number of times i've watched this video. 7:04 - 15:00 is probably my favorite section of any umphrey's song.
Being high enhances an experience, it doesn't ruin it. All the people hating on being high at a concert have obviously never been high at a concert before lol
I have seen these guys a few times and they are sick
I....LOVE...THIS.....BAND!!!!!

gotta see them on the rocks soon. UMPH UMPH UMPH
Umphrey's, STS9, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Tauk, Tool and Pink Floyd are all my face melting Religion

Did you get robbed by a stripper or something?
poor bastard, blew his wad seeing a band live when he could've paid $25 to watch on the boob tube....😖🙄😖🙄😖🙄
I've flown from London 4 years in a row to see this band.. love them
Can't wait to see them again! At least I get to see Cosby Sweater and Digital Tape Machine in 2 weeks!!!!!!!
I heard you guys on jam radio on sirius and had no idea you had come this far since I saw you back in the Bend. I am definitely going to a show when you come to the southeast!!!!
Just now read something about this band and checking them out. Kick ass!
Awesome ! Try and see them live , Waful is one of the best light guys in the game.
Amazing skill and creativity combined.

9:20 to 11:50 I love that groove into the disco dance groove!!! Favorite part!!
Umphrees melts faces. This still hits in 2020 Covid era.
My second Umphrey's show and second Ocean Billy. Ive seen them many times since then but shit those first two shows stand out as the best for me.
Great performance!!

That wasn't him, but GOD DAMN, you have a great sense of humor!!! 🏎
I'm going to see them this Saturday
just got put onto Umphreys's McGee Randomly seen the vid within a click i was hooked Now thats Some sounds for the body..
Musically they sound like Rush or Yes, but the tone of the lead guitarist more resembles Joe Satriani
Holy shit Jefferson Waful
Best feeling in a top-tier jam is when you hit that peak and look at the time and realize it's not even halfway through lol
6:30?
I can't believe I was lucky enough to experience this amazing night. Thank you Umphrey's Mcgee!!!!!
Same here
cant wait to do this all again june 7th...
Just saw them at Papermill Island Baldwinsville NY..unbelievable
this is pretty cool i've always meant to get into these dudes
Well, you probably have time now.
THE best version of this track?.. probably.
They throw down at scamp I think its a new best every time for them!
You can tell just by Jake's pinch harmonic right in the beginning. 😁 \mm/
Absolutely the best I've heard and I've seen and heard alot of the umph

Kris' tom groove at 13:35 is the wildest shit.

kinda like the way the other company films their shows better (NYE dvd), but im glad this was the song that was posted for youtube....best jam of the show
no arguments there, i guess they are worth checking out.
Had to circumvent weird chicks hoola-hooping and tripping into everyone. If I wanted to get tore down and party, I'd do that in the back yard.
UM+Lightshow+Herbals= ECSTACY!!!!!!!
