When these were first aired they were probably derided by critics for being simplistic or typical daytime fare. Just goes to show doesn't it?
Scroll on nearly 50 years, there's precious little on any network that's anywhere near as enjoyable as these shows. Simple doesn't have to mean inferior. Just funny, warm, normally-adjusted people having a fun time without any of the totally f***ing insane moralising that every aspect of our lives is subjected to nowadays. Enjoy.

    H/H match update:
    ...
    Today's action:
In an amazing coincidence, for the second day in a row, our champion needed to find at least one "head" on the panel to win the game. And just like yesterday, Bill matched right off the bat! How weird is that?
Today's audience match question: "_________ Widow" (My thoughts: Black, Rich, War, Grieving???)
The celebs: Benneye (Black), Richard (Merry), and Fannie (Grass)
    The choice: Black
The answers: Grass, Merry, Black -- The celebs did it again! They suggested all three responses in the proper order!
This is now our champion's fourth time facing the H/H. She's chosen Richard all three times so far, and they matched twice. I'd be shocked if she tries anyone else. (PS: I like how this champion rotates through all the celebs when it comes time to solicit suggestions. It's nice that Benneye got to participate in the Super Match round and contribute to the champion's winnings!)
Of course she chooses Richard. Taking a look back, he's matched nine of his 20 most recent attempts.
    Today's H/H question: "Pair of _______"
(It's a veritable guessing game with a plethora of answers today. Pair of shoes? Pants? Glasses? Aces? Scissors? Jeans? I'm going to say "pants" since that feels like the most common, general answer I can think of.)
Richard begins writing without hesitation as the camera cuts to a pensive contestant.
"Shoes," our contestant says, but she doesn't sound thrilled or confident. She says her alternate answer was a pair of "spades," so she definitely made the better decision. Now that I think about it, "shoes" is maybe better than "pants." (It was my first thought, I wonder why I changed my mind?) Well, let's let Richard decide if it's a good answer or not...
Richard pulls out another winner: "Shoes."
Richard scores his 182nd H/H match today.
Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy:
(Note: An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.)
(Note: For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.)
    Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts).
    Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts).
TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts).
TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts).
    Fannie - 52.4% (11 wins in 21 attempts).
    Charles - 51.0% (27 wins in 53 attempts).
    Betty - 50.0% (18 wins in 36 attempts).
Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts).
    Brett - 41.9% (26 wins in 62 attempts).
    Richard - 41.2% (182 wins in 442 attempts).
    Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts).
*These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 752, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, and 645. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")

This is so funny because the young lady never realized that a man can have Adams apples! She left, so confused! And then, to say that her husband beats up, I think was so crazy! I don’t know if she was choking a serious she probably was serious, so she needed some help, but if those days nobody wanted to help anybody in these kind of situations

It's beautiful how this show showcases racial diversity without ever having to bring it up. Mid 70s not long after the civil rights movement. Now if a white person makes a taco or quotes a film using a blaccent there has to be a national inquest. A comedian like Don Rickles would be persona non grata.

Don’t worry about the racism, Joe Biden will take care of it for you.

@R No, real racists practice racism everywhere in their lives and create potential racism wherever they go. We "Sewer Rats" didn't create racism, we diagnosed it. If you want to see a racist, Arra, just look in the mirror or at your latest selfie.

Meh. If she was racist she would have intentionally scuttled her comeback by giving a bad answer. She didn't. One might even argue she did the opposite by saying "what's going on with these answers?" implying there is a disturbing trend.
If she was racist why would she have been in a relationship with a female writer known for having actively supported the Civil Rights Movement?
Maybe get a second opinion on your "diagnosis".

@@jjryan1352 Get a second opinion of your reading comprehension. I COMPLIMENTED Ms. Flagg by writing, "Good to see Fannie Flagg WASN'T a racist," Mr. Illiterate.

Henley-Ray, round 1, question A: "What can you do with someone who tries to slide down the jungle gym? RECESS!" (Bzzt!)
Round 2: (first we slip off to Narnia while Beatrice picks question A and again fails to match me [see previous video], and then…)
Question B: "There really must be something wrong with me; the only thing I could think of for him to take out was his TRASH." (Bzzt!)
Tiebreaker, question B: "Amidst Edenic bliss, our first mother sustained herself upon her spouse's LOVE." (Bzzt!) "Why, thank you, Brett. I thought it was sweet, too."
Question A: (just showing the card, probably) HEAD [For the benefit of Mike C and anyone else who might be wondering, by the way: the head is the foam on top of a mug of beer.]
Super Match, part 1: (if asked before Bennye) BLACK
(if asked between Bennye and Richard) MERRY
    (if asked after Richard) GRASS
    Part 2: ACES
Henley-Newton, round 1, question B: "Hey, I even matched the phrasing! STEWPOT!" (Ding!)
