- Hi, this 'trying to fix' video shows me attempting to fix 2 faulty iPhone 6S that I purchased on eBay for £105 and £55.
Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things.
I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series.
Many thanks Vince.
Ever since I've found your channel, I've just been binge watching every video. It's really great seeing an amateur (no offense), taking things apart and (attempting) to fix them. It gives me inspiration, and shows that you don't need to be an expert to fix things. I hate all the "professional" and "sponsored" channels that litter RUclips today. I miss the days when everyone was just an average person, no different than me or you. I far prefer the private and non-verified channels. At least the few that are left.
Yes i know right
this channel is gonna blow up, i cant remember when was the last time i watched every 30-40 min video on a channel till the end with such excitement. Gratz on repaired phones!
Hey Vince! Been enjoying your content a lot, I mostly just play games and play your repair videos on the background, pretty relaxing tbh.
Thank you for the entertainment!
Mike Zarzuela me too
I enjoy watching your videos. Majority of the time I don't need to watch them but you seem like a very genuine guy. As someone from the UK I find your videos entertaining...Great video and well done on the channel :-)
Vince you should do a live stream one day and we can help you while you do it.
Awesome idea
Good Idea👍🏻🙂
Live Stream🔴, I don’t know how to fix iPhones but you guys can help me on the live stream🔴
I mean live Chat
V Shap you know you can edit your comments and replies, right?
I checked the video time and I was pleasantly surprised by how long the video is wow I love this channel :)
Keep up the good work mate, really enjoying it. Quality videos, also good to see that someone tries to repair tech stuff. Cheers mate
These are my favorite videos. They look super cool when you fix them and that ability is great!
50 minutes of pure entertainment
The zero passcode bypass was a bug actually, in the earlier ios 11 versions, the passcode part actually accepted 4 or 6 zeros instead of the real passcode.
but the phone would update to the latest iOS version when you restore it so that bug had to be patched... unless they havent patched it and it still accepts six 0 as a passcode.
maybe they publicly said they did and really didnt? when they "patched" it the option to use the passcode disappeared
When u restore the iphone it restores it to the current version doesn't update it i believe
snowballs159 current version if you restore it on the phone or it makes you get the latest version if you restore it on iTunes
All zero's has been used as admin bypass for years. It's not likely a bug, but a reset feature that used to be built in standard. Thing is only the tech savvy were likely to have this knowledge back in the day, and nobody would usually think someone would set the passcode to all zeros. Now....people are more knowledgeable about tech in general, and this process is outdated and it's surprising to see it still used.
Love watching your “trying to fix” series mate keep it going :)
Touch ID is locked to the device's motherboard
thanks genius!
Vince also forgot to disconnect the battery buggering up the backlight on the display as it shorted
^That is very true^
I saw this video 3 minutes after this was published. Your videos are really cool.
Luan Skai Impressive
Luan Skai 🔋
You did a great job getting both of those going. I'm glad it worked out
Nice video Vince, I remember subscribing back in the day where you did videos on BT and other home networking videos :) Glad you are doing this type of series, because conveniently I am doing the same with phones as well as laptops. Keep this sort of thing coming! Preferably as a series :P
Loving these eBay fix videos! Keep it up mate 👍
I think that on this channel you should do things related to Nintendo Labo and make things that people put down in the comments section my mate Vince. Not only do I think you will be great at the coding and the building but I think people will find it fun watching your skills at making things not at a high complication level.
I will give you a few tips. You probobly already had hundreds of coments just like these.
Touch ID on the home button is locked to that specific motherboard. You can replace the button, but the Touch ID will not work. This needs to be programmed with a Special Apple Calibration machine which only apple has.
Great tip! Buy a suction cup and the tool iSesamo(buy serveral of them). This will make your life so much easier when tryck to pry things open.
Also do remove the connection of the battery to the mainboard before removing anything else. And put a small object between the batteryconnector and its logicboard connections.
I would also recommend to watch 1 or 2 videos of the procedure to prepare.
Very Nice video Vince! I have the iPhone 8 but have never owned a 6S and this a great video on seeing how the 6S was built! I love each and everyone of your videos because they're so informative on how things work, how to repair them, etc. Keep up the great work.
What do you do with this stuff that buy broken/faulty and then repair? Do you sell them later or just keep them?
Great video as always!
Cool! Hope to see more phone fixing in the future!
Hey Vince, how difficult is it to change an Ipod battery, hope you can do a video on this.
Great Video On iPhone Repair. It's nice to see a good POV to further my knowledge
A Pentelope screw I believe they are called. Did you put the right SIM card holder in the right phone.
You got 2 working phones, great stuff vince
Vince ! If you switch the button over to the new screen Touch ID will function and if you go to Amazon you can buy a screen for 25-30 pounds I replace about 20 a week just always check model numbers
Watching you try and do this without the sucker thing did make me lol.
I like your video vince my dad says you don't try to fix it but I like your video☺☺👍👍
You were very lucky not to blow a filter next time disconnect the battery before working inside the phone. Also it is very important to keep the four screws covering the display cables in the correct order as long screw damage is a very technical repair well beyond the scope of most technicians. Nice to get a functioning ipod and a phone from ebay :)
Really like the fix it videos, always learn something. I’d suggest making some kind of rig to hold your camera above a table. Would give a good top down view and hopefully wouldn’t have to keep moving the camera around so much. Could even make a video on a how to make a rig on the cheap ;)
I’m so happy that I found your channel. You have helped me a ton. Cheers mate
Great video. Really like trying to figure things out with u as u move through each issue. Unique channel and well put together videos! Keep It Up Bud!
Vince I don't remember if you powered off and back on after you changed the screen the first time, as you did the second time.
You need to disconnect battery first, dat's important because You may fry board.
On siri check hole on screen part because on same replacements screens that hole need to be enlarged because it's not in same spot.
Mostly on disassembly siri or camera is damaged and that's normal :D
yes screws are not the same and always need to be put back in same spot like on 5S one is not magnetic and it's next to compass.
Not bad for not checking any tutorial and I can tell You that :)
nice work always enjoy your videos and thank you Vince
Not unplugging the battery can short out the backlight on an iPhone screen, which is probably what happened with your phone (Hugh Jeffreys here on RUclips always emphasises unplugging the battery first when you’re repairing an iPhone, I learned it from him). The Touch ID button is also locked to a phone’s motherboard and can only be re-paired to an iPhone by Apple when they do an official repair (also learned this from Hugh Jeffreys). Other than that you did a good job with the phones!
I want to repair my wifes cracked screen and back. She has an iPhone 8 plus. Where did you get the replacement screens from?
Did you try to reset the phone when you used the rose gold screen instead of just power on? Maybe the rose gold screen isn't water damaged after all!
They are torx screwdriver bits you can get a set of torx bits and a handle for a £1 in poundland
Great job Vince =D Amazing luck with the PIN number there to unlock lol
Vince when you open it up you should always disconnect the battery if you don’t and you plug it back in with the phone on, it will blow the back light on it
In order to get the screen to work on the new phone you have to disconnect the battery after having replaced the screen. The you hold the power button with the battery disconnected for a few seconds and then reconnect the battery. The screen should work after that. I had to do it on a screen repair for my little sister. Put the screen on and it didn't work, disconnected and reconnected the battery and boom, worked perfectly.
Nice one Vince great vlog
You won’t be able to swap the homebutton, because the Touch ID is bound to the logicboard😕
I think this is the best youtuber...
You can't swap Touch ID as its paired with the logic board
Imei number is on the shell of the iPhone as sim trays are the easiest way to fool a buyer as its easily swapped.
Vince what you've just said about the iCloud lock, You could have just bought a stolen phone but not likely as its easily on locked nowadays so would have been sold for full price.
I'd love to see you change a logic board ic vince, go for it!
Great video Vince.
Thanks :-)
These are so entertaining and insightful :)
Tip: Always disconnect the battery.
Use a plastic spuger, you don’t want to pull any components off the board
ALWAYS disconnect the battery on a phone BEFORE doing anything and frying anything on the motherboard ( like the backlight )
The Robster there is dedicated circuit on the motherboard that controls said screen backlight, lookup any iPhone backlight repair (on RUclips!)
Not sure if you did, but always disconnect the battery before removing/replacing the screen on an iphone 6s, otherwise you will more than likely have backlight issues. If the rear camera and flash/torch do not work, then the camera ic is likely water damaged.
Thanks for doing the vid my mate VINCE
Vince little tip wile taking off a Iphone Display just use a sucktion Cup to pull the screnn up abit and us a tool around the screan to Disassemble and by Apple always disconect the Battery before working on it...Great video like always thumbs up
I have a samsung galaxy S8 for sale, Sceen is cracked a little on the bottom of the phone, and when i dropped it the volume button got stuck in, so its always on high volume :( not even had it a year
I'm not there in the video, so I don't know how it turns out, but you can't swap the Touch ID as it's paired with the motherboard so if you replace the screen, you'll have to swap the touch ID over. On the other hand, do not try to disconnect the screen with the battery attached (obviously if you did, it's too late to warn you... that would ruin the motherboard and/or loose touchID functionality).
**EDIT: you swapped over the TouchID, well done.
Test before closing! Does the camera work?
Love the fix it videos!
You might wanna check on doing a iPhone 6s housing shell swap with a iPhone 8 housing shell that is ment to have the iphones6s guts in it would be a really cool video to see but you would have to take apart the whole phone but the end result would look so amazing
Hi Vince, could you maybe link down in one of the next videos your tool set that you're using? Trying to find of those good sets with also triwing bits, but only find trashy ones mostly. Yours looks really good qualitywise and also pretty handy. thanks in advance and keep going on like that! Really love your videos!
I am not sure if you've heard of them but there is a company called IFixIt
They sell all kinds of great quality tool kits for all kinds of devices
Their website has loads of great tutorials for disassemblies and repairs
Of course their kits are on the expensive side but they are worth the money.
I thought I'd let you know just in case because those tool kits will definitely come in handy
Also, keep up the awesome work!
I am a learning computer person... I also enjoy taking things apart and trying to fix them and I do it my own way
I always really enjoy your videos!
One more thing, I saw earlier a video of yours where a fan sent you a PSP to fix
I actually have a ASUS laptop thats having a couple problems
If I cannot fix it, you are more then welcome to have it to mess around with... i would love to see a video of someone fixing that laptop
I believe it is fixable. Maybe i just don't have the knowledge to do it yet
do a proximity test as well record something in voice memos and hit the speaker icon and cover the proximity sensor while playing back the recorded audio.
I don't think siri is having issues I think there is one damaged micro phone as the 6s has 4
I enjoy watching these videos even know I know right way to do some them. You learn best by doing a making mistakes. Never be afraid to make mistakes. It's the best way to learn after all. I fix and repair things all the time and after a while of doing so of my years I have learned how best not to do things. After while you just know and do not. If your are to afraid to make mistakes you will never much learn in life. :P
In Germany we call the screwdriver TORX. Nice to see the UK IPhone does show Deutsch instead of German :D Greetings
if you want the touch id to work u have to swap out the cable for the home buttom as well.
@47:30 The screen in the middle looks to be an original Apple branded screen that was refurbished with new glass over the actual screen. Hence why it doesn't look as white around the screen.
Awesome fix as always
Love this series
The iPhone 6 is pretty damn durable. I have a friend with one. She is a first grade teacher, and uses it constantly to take photos of her class, and to play games and use social media during breaks. She drops the thing probably 5 times a day, on a tile floor, and her 5 grandchildren play with the thing. Not so much as a chip, or crack in the screen! She also carries / hangs it by the charge cord without any issues. That 6s is a freaking tank. If my iPhone x is half as sturdy, I'm good to go........
Really enjoy your videos
Loved the video, i learned a lot 👍
I know this is an old video but while watching it I realized you never Disconnected the battery before replacing the two screens back on the phones which will render the screens either in operable or they just won’t turn on so what you need to do is plug in the screen first then plug the battery in and the screen will always come on if not damaged Also with the Siri I noticed that you weren’t allowing Siri the two second delay that she always does before speaking that’s why She was only taking the last two words of your sentence. And Lastly any screen that is not Apple original parts is gonna look very different from the original screen,In visual quality and functionality. Never disconnect reconnect the screen without disconnecting the battery. great videos bro ,I love em.
Wow interesting video big like!
You should be able to do everything except of course make/ receive calls if the phone is locked to the former owner's cell service, but reset ( no password set). Unlocking the cell service to port it over is simple, and very quick. That first phone has Chinese text on it.....the darker one looks fake, weird .Find my iPhone is brilliant if you have 2 Apple devices, or your significant other also has one. I use my iPad to track my iPad, and vice versa... It tracks them down to a satellite photo of the location. Awesome!
New subscriber here, really enjoying your videos.
Hi vince, i dont know if u knew but u can change only the glass part of the screen u can get that on ebay for cheap just need to glue it with uv resign to lcd, also u might want to buy gasket that goes under the screen since these are 6s which are i bealeve splash proof and its aroud 1pound and baterry sticker are cheap too, and also what u could do for the water dameged one is watch video from tampatech yt chanel on fixing water damaged phones, basically u need to clean every ribbon calbe contacts and pads beneath and doo that for every conection to the moter board that night fix ur camera and mic problem. Hope this will help you
Thanks for all the info. I knew none of this so it really helps :-) I have seen a few TampaTech vids before so I will hunt out the water damaged phone one :-)
My Mate VINCE just to let you know, replacing the glass is not the way to to- the quality is usually rubbish, you can see the glue, and there is usually a screen gap
Hi Vince,
great stuff here, congrats for all your efforts. Your videos are a true delight, so informative... you take us with you in the whole process of discovery and trial, really amazing.
I was wondering, out of curiosity... is there a possibility that the original screen that came with the rose gold locked iPhone was actually working, and that the malfunction was due just to the faulty ribbon cable? When you tried to put the rose gold screen on the working iPhone (the one which came with the broken screen) you did not reset the phone, as you correctly did as needed when you mounted the brand new screen.
Or maybe I just missed something... you know, I'm an android guy myself as well.
Again, kudos to you. Keep up the good work!
Excellent video. Keep it up man. New subscriber!!!
Siri is likely not working because of water damage. There is a forward facing microphone near the ear piece that is used by Siri. My iPhone got a bit of water in there and Siri only picked up static. After replacing the forward facing microphone, Siri worked just fine.
I think the camera module is broken, and it would make sense because the microphone and camera is one unit together. My friend had this exact problem with his microphone and camera broken, and getting the camera unit replaced fixed it.
Usually you can get a pick in there without using heat it doesn’t damage anything. But if you use heat and you just get it a little to hot you can do all kinds of damage
Wow... you're one very lucky bastard :D:D:D If that battery would have been loaded and connected when you swapped the screen, you might have ended up killing the motherboard. That is waaaay too lucky of you :D Congrats.
No need to heat up. Just use a suction cup.
Michael Reimann that’s one way to do it but it’s different from the six The 6S has a water Proofing seal around i proofing seal around the frame on the inside sometimes when people open the phone so you don’t replace them but they do sell replacement seals the phones not rated for anything
Nature Detective Minecraft nope the waterproof seal is with the 7 and up. It would have been much easier to open it with a suction cup. I did this serveral times without heating it.
Michael Reimann it does have waterproofing. You must have used force.
Michael Reimann I repair iPhones and I was cringing when he was heating it up 😆
Nature Detective Minecraft Research things before you comment Minecrafter
you should do more of these
Do you have a link to your ebay shop for a cat 6 Adsl cable?
Hi Vince, why did you take the battery out though?
Blimey this one is a bit ambitious Vincent!
I ate some spicy general tows chicken and now I have spicy shit😀
Just a little tipp: it often helps to convert the original metal plate (behind the screen ) on to the 3th party screen ... if anyone have problems with a screen replacement not working after repair .. that atleast worked for me.
Ps.: its always a good idea to copy over everything of the original screen (camera modul, speakers, touch id button, metal plate..)
YEESSSSSSSSSS!!!! FINALY!!!!!!
*my life is complete*
I have the 6s as well. Absolutely great phone but beware of the battery. You Might need to replace it later on or buy a battery case
there is no point of adding the heat but the screws are different lenght and if you put longer screw to short nut you can short power rails so on iphone always make sure you keep them in order ... also fingerprint is locked to the motherboard so you need to change circuit board under button too (just exchange small pcb behind button) and if displays are good everything should work fine
Idk what you’re all talking about with this Touch ID swap question. You can use any home button as long as you don’t mind not using Touch ID function. Otherwise they will function normally. To change that PCB behind the home button is surgical god mode soldering and is not feasible.
home button is nothing more than a tactile switch and a plastic button ... ofcource i am talking about Touch ID this board is easy to swap and it is a must if you want everithing to work as new ... anyway to me iPhones are trash for money ... i prefer 1000 times more Android phone ... even windows phones are beter than iphone ... even no brands chinese software phones are beter
you MUST disconnect the battery when you're messing arround with ribbon cables. and dont use metal screwdrivers to pull up connections, you have the plastic pry tools for a reason. use them
There is an iCloud activation bypass that allows you to unlock it with all zeros that on certain versions of iOS for the 6s and plus models. Apple quickly patched that security issue, but it’s too late for some prior owners. Great feature, yea?
some of them after market screens ar crap the color for one , i bought two and fitted 1 screen failed after 1 week and for some reason had a rattle from the other 2 screens plus good tool kit 60 ozzy dollars 12 months ago
Heya Vince,
A lot of switch users, including myself, are experiencing the joycon analog sticks “drifting”. Could you find some solutions to that?
Thanks
If this proves anything, it proves what a pain these phones are to fix. I have had iPhones since 2009. Waiting for the 12 to be delivered. I never take them apart or have issues with them but may have just jinxed myself.
You have to change home button also, because it is locked to the motherboard. You don't need heat for iphone 6. You need to sort and keep in order all screws because they are different and if you switch them might burn the phone
You need to disconnect the battery before the screen or you will dry the back light that's why you cant see anything
I love these videos
I think when you swapped the screen you did not unplug the battery and you have probably fried the backlight on the display
