Found your reaction video a few hours later. Had a grin the entire time waiting for you to hear the punchline. Your entire reaction was just what I was hoping for from beginning to end. Thanks for a walk down memory lane.
Thank you for your reaction, a blast from the past and a different time. The village people was a group in the 70s who’s biggest hit was YMCA. Loving your voice btw👍
😂 really he has to sit through that? I seen them play 2 times opening act for cher.....weird all i have to say. It is catchy and it makes you stare though
@@GamerToday - I once saw KC & The Sunshine band between the first and second periods of a minor league hockey game. I had no idea I would want to see them, but it was the highlight of the night! Lol!
You, reacting to this. Soon as I saw it, "Okay, here we go!" You didn't disappoint. "First of all, the first verse was absolutely disrespectful!" That got a belly laugh. lol
Please Village People next...YMCA, In the Navy, Macho Man...they have kept the costumes up through the years. I saw them last perform at Walt Dsiney World, got the crowd going and they sounded awesome! The Escape Song is also known as the Pina Colada song and is a favorite for karaoke.
Wait, wait, wait, wait… ok, I can get maybe not having heard Escape before (at least not entirely), but to not know who The Village People are? My good sir… you have some catching up to do.
Mr. Boyd, since I am very familiar with Rupert Holmes big hit, watching your discovery of the song and that O'Henry twist at the end was a lot of fun. I can tell you that you need spend no further time on Mr. Holmes, but The Village People that were glimpsed at the beginning of the video have 2 or 3 songs worth checking out... if for no other reason than the "time capsule" nature of their existence!
So this song tells the story over a couple days, if this story was told today it wouldn't take five minutes, one of them would ask "why do you have a profile on tinder?" The other would say "why are you looking on tinder?" Then a "laugh" is had by all 😝
It's so funny to me that this song is just about a super unhealthy couple. Like you both tried to cheat on each other over an issue that seemingly could've been solved with simple communication
What you say is absolutely true. But, this WAS the 70's when we talked alot about the importance of communication, but weren't very good at doing it. (lol)
Right? But I think that's the point of the song. The singer is telling this story to warn others -- "don't be like me". TALK to your partner, find out what they really like. Don't just assume. Maybe you'll find out you like more stuff than what you've been doing.
LOL THOSE THEMED PEOPLE ARE THE GROUP THE VILLAGE PEOPLE LOL SURPRISED YOU DID NOT KNOW!!!! It is about Communication with your other half !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I find it interesting that we're pretty much the same age and you don't know the Village People. It's an avenue you need to encounter. As for that song, it was before my time but I do know the song and it's a classic.
This is a great song. I’m 44 and grew up listening to all these old classics with my folks. Once I could make up my own mind on what music I liked I chose so called “ gangster rap” with the typical groups. Eventually that turned into a passion for the Bay Area hip hop scene. 40, Young MD and what not. That was pretty much all I listened to for 15 years. Unfortunately once modern music, especially hip hop turned into talentless crap noise I needed to find something to make me smile. Old tracks like this and Brandy and all that do just that, make me smile. You ride in my car and my music goes from Brotha Lynch Hung Rest in Piss to Steely Dan Hey 19. It trips people out sometimes. You should always listen to an actual remastered track. Not these “recorded live shows” I’m sure it’s because of YT but you really miss out on what the song should sound like. It’s more then just lyrics and a little background rhythm.
Been watching you for like a month. Got a song idea that will blow your mind from la bouche singer melanie thorton who is dead now was a friend of mine. Her demo hit she did while visiting her brother in germany its a masterpiece. She was just some girl then and the song is fire no joke. I dont want to spoil name its before labouche but that is where she met her band mates. She recorded the song for $50 for her family as request. Its stunning how good the song is her voice was always way above the rest for me.
So, Am I the only one who felt so damn old when he described the village people but didn't know who they were. I remember dancing to this song on my brother's graduation dinner...
A one hit wonder if there ever was one. I once went to a bar called O'Malley's. I got into a fight. Maybe I should have had a Pina Colada. Lover your reaction to The Village People, it was the same as mine, all those many years ago. "Who are THOSE people. The Village People?"
One of the coolest thing about this song is it's origin. The studio recording you are listening to in this performance was the first time Rupert ever sang the song. in fact it was the first time anyone ever sang it. He had written it the night before and sang it all the way through in the studio to gauge if the twist was too obvious. He was never able to get a better take, so that's the one we got. you will note at least one line that had too many syllables and he fixes it on the fly it's impossible to miss once you have heard it. Also the main hook was totally changed just before he sang it after he realized it didn't work with the rest.
Just wanted to take a second to thank you for keeping me entertained. I've been off of work for a while due to a injury. I came across your reactions a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoy your breakdowns. I don't know if you will get to this comment but I would like to see you react to George Watsky. He is one of my favorite artists. He's a rapper but I started following him before he started rapping and was doing poetry slams. He went viral in 2011 I believe it was with his video 'pale kid raps fast' but if you want too check his poetry out I'd suggest 'drunk text message to god' or 'S is for lisp' From there you could check out some of his music. whoa whoa whoa, cardboard castles, don't be nice just to name a few. There's not too many reactions of him and I'd like to see him get more recognition than he does and see your thoughts of him. Have a great day and keep up the good work! Edit: he has a series of songs called 'tiny glowing screens' that is a great listen.
Some of the best Rupert Holmes work is found in what I consider to one of the best tv shows of all time. It is called Remember WENN. He created, wrote the scripts and the songs. Sadly it was broadcast on AMC back in the 90s and is hard to fine but he had some great songs in the show.
I don't think you were comfortable with a story telling song which this is. It's very clever and extremely relatable on so many levels. Disappointed that you just didn't seem to get it. Would be interested to see how you would react to say Harry Chapin. I would suggest maybe Taxi.....or even Mr Tanner from his collection. Also really you didn't know who Village People were? Everyone seems amused by that.
It’s crazy, I never knew what the song was actually about. Until I went deeper into the lyrics. I thought it was About a dudewas tired of his women and so he was going to cheat on her by going to a personal column. But it turns out the lady who wrote the personals column was his wife and they met at a bar. And then they realized have more in common than they think and they learn to love each other again. Some people are saying how the whole thing was planned, because they were both bored and they wanted to spice the relationship up but I’m not sure about that. Anyway…Such a catchy song, I just love it.
This was a fun song not meant so seriously, they weren't married. Basically, relationships can get into a rut with both people getting bored with the other and not working hard enough to make it work.
New to your channel. Enjoy yer vids. If I could only have one suggestion. “Tash Sultana”. She is next level!! Her Blackbird performance on 7Layer sessions is 🤯🤯. She wrote it after getting stuck in a cave for over a week in New Zealand.
I've known who the Village People are since I was a kid lol. Used to go roller skating and they used to play YMCA, ice ice baby and can't touch this all the time. Wonder if I can still do the YMCA and roller skate at the same time. 🤔
Themed people? Those are the village people. if you don't know their songs you should, very iconic from yesteryear. YMCA and in the navy are the ones I've heard the most.
I guess I'm like all the people waiting for you to listen to the whole song. This came out when I was 11 years old. It was one of the biggest songs requested at one of My local Radio Stations . Most People would ask for the Pina Colada Song and not by the title Escape. They made a Parody song that that forced people to get the title right if the wanted to hear the song.
"There's like a whole lot of themed people on stage guys" - Uhhhh... uh huh. That would be The Village People. _YMCA_ is a favorite at both Gay Bars and Wedding Receptions. Probably one of the only songs that has that kind of cross-over. Young man, there's no need to feel down I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground I said, young man, 'cause you're in a new town There's no need to be unhappy
It never ceases to amaze me what intelligent people don't know and who they haven't heard of. The Village People? The Pina Colada Song? What's next? "Who's Willie Nelson?"
Should check out some of Huey Lewis and The News' songs. They were a banger band back in the 80's. Songs to start with would be like "If This Is It", "Stuck With You", "The Power of Love", and "Hip to be Square". I recommend checking out the music videos though because they're all so delightfully 80's. You might not wanna do it for the Power of Love song though, as it was the Back To The Future theme and don't know how that film studio handles their claims or if they even make any. Additionally I'd check out if you haven't yet, whether it be here or personally, The Police's "Walking On The Moon" song.
You should check out his other and that I know of one of two hits songs which is simply called HIM. I’m sure you’ll get a big kick out of it as he did this song it’s really a nice song. I know you get this a lot but I got to tell you myself you’ve got a great voice!
Found your reaction video a few hours later. Had a grin the entire time waiting for you to hear the punchline. Your entire reaction was just what I was hoping for from beginning to end. Thanks for a walk down memory lane.
IMO this is one of the most romantic songs in the world. Talk to your lover, ask them what their fantasies are. Don't let it get stale.
Thank you for your reaction, a blast from the past and a different time. The village people was a group in the 70s who’s biggest hit was YMCA. Loving your voice btw👍
The Village People are the guys who sing YMCA
😂 really he has to sit through that? I seen them play 2 times opening act for cher.....weird all i have to say. It is catchy and it makes you stare though

The Midnight Special! LOVED watching that show!!!
The Village people that introduced him sing the song YMCA. You have to react to them !!!
OMG!! Rupert Homes and the VILLAGE PEOPLE...Hell YEAH!!!!!!!!!!
You, reacting to this. Soon as I saw it, "Okay, here we go!" You didn't disappoint. "First of all, the first verse was absolutely disrespectful!" That got a belly laugh. lol
Haha everybody reacting to this song , has the same funny reaction! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Love this song!
OMG. He's not been exposed to The Village People. Lucky LMAO. 🤣
OK so yeah do YMCA, In the Navy, and whatever else by the Village People. It's super catchy.
also, Macho Man
"that's called marriage'. You sir owe me a new keyboard. The coffee I spit upon it will never come out.
Probably one if the most sampled song in history. Movies, commercials, sitcoms....

My good sir… you have some catching up to do.
He lives in a bubble.
Try the song he wrote called Timothy😉
I was going to mention that one myself. It was written for The Buoys, and they hoped it'd be banned so they could leave their record company.
He's actually meeting with his old lady... that's why she said "ohh! it's you". It's his boring irlfriend that he was replying to in the letter.
"That's called marriage". Ha! So true which is why you have consistently work on your marriage.

I haven't finished the video yet but I'm so excited for the realization!
I bought this on 45 as a little kid. I had no clue what it was about. It may have been my first 45.
The village people had a few hits back in 70s. "Y.M.C.A" 1978 was a huge hit for them, also "In The Navy" 1978, was a big hit.
Now that I realize what he is actually singing about, it makes this song that much better 😂😂
A couple who rediscovers each other
It's so funny to me that this song is just about a super unhealthy couple. Like you both tried to cheat on each other over an issue that seemingly could've been solved with simple communication

If you had a shirt that said "Mrlboyd fan... potentially". I would buy it.

"a whole bunch of themed people".... Oh God I'm so old 😩
The Professor of Rock has a great video on this song.

I could never understand how neither one of them had a problem that they were both willing to cheat
I don’t know if I found out my significant other was planning to cheat on me and vice versa if I could just laugh it off like in this song. 🤷♂️
Just imagine these two grocery shopping together, filling their cart with food they both hate. What sort of hell did they consign themselves to?

Young man, there's no need to feel down
I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground
I said, young man, 'cause you're in a new town
There's no need to be unhappy
Id rather have this react channel dude over this song no joke or piana coladas.
How is spain been to you?
I’d love to see you react to some Primus and Static-X. As well as some Amity Affliction and Highly Suspect
Primus sucks.
Static-X's "Cold" is pretty cool.
Those are the Village People. You should check them out.
Please listen to Bo Burnham Sad or Lower your expectations - PLEASE, so good and funny!
It never ceases to amaze me what intelligent people don't know and who they haven't heard of. The Village People? The Pina Colada Song? What's next? "Who's Willie Nelson?"

The story behind this song is just as twisty as the song itself. A passed out drunk session musician, a deadline, and a last minute lyric change.
😂😂 It’s The Village People!!
This was a US number one in 1979 when it was released. It re-charted in 1980, making it the only pop song to be the top spot in different decades.
Cool stat, but NOT the only one. Bohemian Rhapsody was #1 in 1975 when it debuted and in 1991 when Freddy Mercury died.
You should check out his other and that I know of one of two hits songs which is simply called HIM. I’m sure you’ll get a big kick out of it as he did this song it’s really a nice song. I know you get this a lot but I got to tell you myself you’ve got a great voice!
Definitely time to react to The Village People if you didn't know who they were. Love your page sir. Keep it up.
