      hi again steve i probably did not say the last reply correctly ? i see a oppertunitey for there to be a steve vinson kit to be supplied to the world ?? if you had time or could be bothered [most people do not know the specifics and would pay a extra few hundred for it all at once ] + standard $500 to australia if you split the front and back end kit into two purchases $1000 or $2000 bucks +??? you live and breathe the dimensions and whats right n wrong and thats no crime to make a buck from ??? try putting a base kit on ebay with all the best stuff you know that fit's and is compatible and i would buy it [cheers steve don't lose the faith in cyclekart utopia ] i have wanted a cycle car since a visit to york motor musuem at a school outing as a kid and now 50 years old

      It doesn’t need to have any interference from motor sport organisations or regulatory bodies other than what exists at the present time.

    Thanks for the parts roundup Steve. I ordered front and rear axle kit, steering, springs from Renegade a week ago. New CT90 wheels, tires, tubes, rear shocks, yes, and torque converter have mostly arrived. Rear brake to purchase yet. 1x3x.065x20' rectangular tube 80ish bucks a stick here in Montana. We're at 2000.00 bucks so far. Have a new 212 Predator sitting on the shelf and 4x10 sheets of aluminum as I work with it anyway. Appears to be a 3000.00 project, although I think a person could save 500.00 to 1000.00 building their own axles and using used rims and tires but quality could suffer.

    I just found your channel and after watching a few videos, I'm thinking of building something like this just for kicks (plywood body and all).
    My question is on the back end, would the official competitive rules allow somebody to use an axle pulled from a go-kart and retrofitted to use 17 in. spoke rims from a dirt bike? Or does the axle have to be a specific diameter and Honda rims? Could I use a modified rack, pinion and spindle system from a Go-kart for the steering as well?
    Hope to hear back soon, and awesome video!

    • @stevevinson6030
      @stevevinson6030  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, all that is fine. The most important thing is to keep your inspiration car in mind when making these choices. The Rack and Pinion will likely be hidden by the body, but the spindles and other parts that are visible, we hope that these look period correct, as much as possible. I have seen some guys chop the front suspension off of a golf kart or an ATV, it just doesn't look quite right. We encourage creativity and reusing old stuff when it makes sense

    Well, I was all in and had friends interested as well. Looks like we are OUT until repro wheels are available again. Just called a local moto scrap yard and they say they get $125-200 per 17" wheel spouting the perceived value of the CT bikes. I just can't play that game. I have a C70 and my friend has many of them but we are not destroying complete machines just to get wheels. The Chinese MX wheels don't look worth the chance to me. I'd buy new VCK wheels if available but... Looks like I'll check in on the hobby later. Keep building and racing!

    Nice presentation. But I have a question. Supposedly the 'track' of a cyclekart is 38". The definition of 'track' is center of tire to center of tire, but in some comments I've seen, people interpret that as the overall width (outside of tire to outside of tire). So what is it? Overall width, or center-to-center?

    • @stevevinson6030
      @stevevinson6030  Год назад +1

      The authors of the guidelines are using 39" at the outside of the tire. Not the center of the tire. If using a standard width 36" rear axle, 39" is where your tires will be exactly.

    • @stevevinson6030
      @stevevinson6030  2 года назад +1

      Most karts are between 250 and 280 pounds, some are heavier. Lots of big guys have built CycleKarts. I added helper springs to mine to stiffen the front, but really most of the weight is on the rear axle, the front axle doesn't carry much load.

    The problem I see with these machines is the wheels. Motorcycle wheels are not designed for side loading. This makes them prone to failure when sliding, drifting or off road when used on a car (motorcycles lean into corners eliminating side loading). Lawn mowers are better for racing. Cycle carts are just plain fun, but not for any kind of excitement when racing.

    • @stevevinson6030
