The Mercedes-Benz E-Class has a reputation for buttoned-down efficiency. It's one continued by this vastly improved eighth generation version which retains a sensible side but dials up the desirability, aiming to offer a smarter, more prestigious approach to Executive class motoring than its closest German rivals. It does so with efficient engines, astonishing technology and comfort that makes you question the need for a larger luxury saloon.
    History
No car epitomises what Mercedes-Benz stands for better than this one - the E-Class. We've known it by that name since 1986 but the history of this model actually dates all the way back to 1953 and the introduction of the original 'W120' series design, widely regarded as the brand's first truly modern motor car. And this model has remained truly modern throughout the eight generations since, pioneering everything from safety passenger cell technology to turbodiesel engines, innovation that continues here in this much improved 'W212' series version, the most comprehensively revised Mercedes-Benz ever.

I used the E320 & E350 estate for chauffeuring for around 12 years and can honestly say it's one 9f the best long-distance cars I've ever driven. It obviously got better as time went on but a fantastic car allround, and unlike almost any other normal sized car, you can fit FOUR, (trust me, I've done it hundreds of times), full-sized suitcases in the boot. And with that E350 engine, you won't be late for check-in

The MPG was the key. The Petrol was the quickest 0-62 of the base models. You talked about 0-62 for the first 50% of the review. It's all about the near 50MPG. You could have bought the traditional Mercedes emblem in the Executive and there were upgraded laser headlights. Precise panel gaps, has never been uttered referring to a Facelifted W212. It's like saying the stitching in the Faux leather seating will never rip. ;) That Nappa Leather was an option.

I've owned a 2014 EClass 350 Sport 4MATIC since 2019 and never would have bought this car new. Had an amazing deal on it used. The interior is a joke for a Metcedes Benz with the seats, as per usual, being repaired before I bought it, the air bag modules gey out of balance after about 6 years of age and none of the 16 airbags work, the maintainence is too high for a well depreciated car and even with my upgrades [LEDs all over, wood replacement with carbon fiber, cameras all upgraded with GPS and known for electrical problems. Beyond all that, I baby the car, garage it and keep it up to perfect shape. Unless you bought a top spec version with leather, heads up display, infrared, adaptive led headlights, park assist, auto parking, all the optioned safety features and etc. Watch out for front seal leaks eventually and frame rust, that the dealership fixed for free. This as about a month ago, so it was covered after 9 plus years. How dangerous is that? Sad quality. This car was not known for it's panel gaps. Geez. The rear container, that takes away trunk/boot space, is called a comfort box and it's s 500 dollar upgrade. Do the £ conversion. There are about thirty thousand dollars worth of options on the car. Originally, The base was about 57K and you can upgrade to about 85K plus. So, if you buy it, look for one with a large amount of options. The Continental OEM wheels arent great. I immediately putcon Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tyres/tires and it was a huge improvement. I'm not putting Michelin Cup 2s or even Pilot Sport 4ses on an E350. Id much rather have that E350 Bluetech. Good luck with maintainence costs though.

@@D19944 Mainly because of a Nox-sensor problem and it was near a tripp to Croatia, there was no new sensor to find. So round 400€ for adblue off and 100 more for 30hp. I´m a calm driver but when I got it back the engine was more eager, I hade some spinning in start in the beginning before I learned. It was good performance before and it is some better now, specialy with overtaking its performe well. I´m very happy with it, I think its the best solution. Performance like 350 and fuel economy even better. Filled tank yesterday and in 1100km 5,7l/100km.

They ruined the original W212’s distinctive and more aggressive styling. Since then U.K. buyers are denied the classic Mercedes grille and all models are virtually indistinguishable. Having said that even the classic grille has morphed into something tasteless but not as ugly as their German competitors. Unfortunately the markets that count are China and the U.S., neither known for refined car designs.

They ruined the W212 by grafting on a w205 style nose. I’d stick to a pre-facelift model.

Personal taste I guess. I find the rounded off, single headlight look bland. Every Merc looks the same these days, a generic euro bubble with no road presence at all.
