- (17 Oct 2016) RANDY TRAVIS STUNS, SINGS AT COUNTRY HALL OF FAME
Country singer Randy Travis found his distinctive voice three years after a life-threatening stroke and sang "Amazing Grace" during his induction Sunday (16 OCT. 2016) into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
The Grammy-winning baritone singer battled back the stroke in 2013 to sing again during the medallion ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee. He was inducted along with fiddler Charlie Daniels and record producer Fred Foster.
Fellow artists including Kris Kristofferson, Dolly Parton, Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Garth Brooks and more honored the three inductees with musical tributes.
But it was Travis' singing that brought a stunned silence and tears to the crowd after years of rehabilitation and therapy to regain his voice.
Mary Davis-Travis, his wife, spoke about the numerous procedures and surgeries to save his life and a six-month stay in the hospital after a viral infection caused his stroke.
"Randy stared death in the face, but death blinked," Davis-Travis said. "Today God's proof of a miracle stands before you."
The 57-year-old singer was honored for being the first country artist whose debut album "Storms of Life" went platinum in its first year and he ushered in a wave of neo-traditional singers like Alan Jackson, Clint Black and Brooks in the 1990s.
Jackson, who performed "On the Other Hand," talked about going out on tour with Travis in the early '90s and compared him to Elvis.
"When he sang, the women were screaming and fainting and it was crazy," Jackson said. "I loved it. Someone singing real country music and having that effect and selling all those records, it just made me so happy."
Daniels, the fiddler player behind the hit song "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," was honored for his multi-genre style blending Southern rock, bluegrass, gospel and country music.
"A plaque on this wall is not just another award or accolade," Daniels said. "It's a page in a history book. An unending history book."
Jamey Johnson performed his song, "Long Haired Country Boy," while Trace Adkins performed "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," with fiddler Andrea Zonn.
Foster ran the influential Monument Records, which helped launch the careers of Roy Orbison, Willie Nelson as well as Parton and Kristofferson. Kristofferson sang his iconic song "Me and Bobby McGee," which Foster helped co-write and produce, while Parton sang "Dumb Blonde," from her debut album produced by Foster.
Parton praised Foster for giving her a shot and still being a gentleman when Porter Wagoner "stole" her away to be on his television show.
Vince Gill presented him with the medallion and noted Foster was a lover of great songs and a champion of unique singers.
"But everyone of us needs a champion," Gill said. "And you look like at a man like Fred Foster and there's a man that has been a champion for all these years."
The 85-year-old producer is still currently working and most recently produced a tribute album to Ray Price by Nelson.

John Qualls I zombie
Love Randy Travis always will and always will be the man
@John Qualms . He sure is! More than a Legend but one for sure! He sang the Lord's word and when he was losing his battle, in a coma and the doctors told his wife she should pull the plug on Randy, she went to Randy still in a coma, and she asked him if he wanted to fight this! She said he squeezed her hand and a tear rolled down his cheek and she knew right then that he wanted to and would FIGHT THIS THING! And he did. The Lord said it wasn't his time to go. He always spread the Lord's word in his singing and the Lord said he wasn't done. FOREVER AND EVER AMEN.. 🙏
@@djtrump2101 He's far from being a zombie if that's what you're trying to say about Randy! Look at the newer things that he's been doing and singing is a big part of it. He's one of the best Country singers of all time! The Lord said his work is not done. He's living proof of the Lord's miracles every day.🙏
Garth Brooks is a legend

Randy, you brought joy to me with your songs I pray for your recovery. You are a hero for your strength
The doctors told her to unplug him. She said NO! I’m so glad she refused.

randy's music was with me daily during the happiest time of my life. It's a part of me it's a part of my life. Forever and ever was my wedding song .who knew that forever would only last 7 years but my love of Randy and his music has gone on for 54 years and counting
Randy Travis would have to be one of the best modern country singings to grace the stage.
might be, but way after Keith Whitley would... (to me, he was quite boring actually, sorry, luckily tastes differ - I am happy he is still alive and doing reasonably well.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE you Randy Travis!! You’re the very BEST!!!
Amazing Grace, How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now am found
T'was blind but now I see
T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear
And Grace, my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed
Through many dangers, toils and snares
We have already come.
T'was grace that brought us safe thus far
And grace will lead us home,
And grace will lead us home
Amazing grace, Howe Sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now am found
T'was blind but now I see
Was blind, but now I see.
I heard a black man say Amazing Grace was written down using just the black keys of a piano. I sure hope that's true, as I have repeated that story since I saw it on Bill & Gloria Gaither's music show!
Glad he got his voice back because when my Mom has a stroke she never got her speech back and was never the same again. He’s blessed to have that still going for him, was sorry to hear he had a stroke.
Randy you are an amazing singer and person in general . God bless you . Your music has a lot of memories for me .
He's one of the best signers ever, and I'm saying that as a person who is primarily a rock music fan. Randy Travis could croon with the best of them. In an earlier era, he could have been another Sinatra. I'm sorry for his hardships, hope he has a strong recovery. Thanks for the great music Mr. Travis. You are one of a kind.
His voice....LEGENDARY.
Glad he made it.
Great job Garth an Trish we love Randy’s music I pray for full recovery
Randy I'm one of the millions of people that love you and love your singing! I'm so happy that you're here today and still able to sing the Lord's word. You're quite the fighter and I'm thankful that you're still here and still fighting to get back to where you want to be! Praise the Lord! FOREVER AND EVER AMEN 🙏 We all still love you Randy!❤️
Randy you got country music to return to its roots when it went astray. You let young singers know singing COUNTRY, true heart felt country, was just right and we all thank you for it. Love you Randy.
@@1171 I’m so very sorry that you lost your brother. My heart felt sympathies. He sounds like he was such a fun person to be with. My two brothers, my sister and I are very close. We are military brats who moved practically every year so we were best friends with little time in one place to make other friends. Losing anyone of them would be devastating. Your pain at your loss had to be excruciating. I hope you have found peace with his passing. God bless. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
I love you Randy Travis ❤️..you will always be one of my favorite country music artist!!I pray you continue on your journey to a complete healing...and God's favor will always bless you.

I absolutely love Randy Travis! I’ve had some addiction issues, my papaw had a stroke the same time he did and watching papaw recover as I watched Randy recover on the TV and online was such a life changing time in my life. I saw Randy Travis in 1991 with Alan Jackson opening. It brought tears to my eyes here to listen to Alan pay humble tribute to Randy by singing "On the Other Hand". So moving! Randy, I love you! Thank you for sharing "Amazing Grace" right here for all of us!

His stroke is leaving and he may well be up there again with the voice we all long to hear again. He is the quintessential country singer without even trying.
I grew up listening to really country music artists like these
God bless his full recovery .love him and his music.his songs speaks louder than words.🙏🙏🙏❤
His voice is still so beautiful
I worked in the Albuquerque sunport airport as a skycap, he use to travel quite a bit.. at that time he was married to his 1st wife... we'd take care of them with highest care as they were traveling to or coming home. Very nice gentleman. He was always there for his family, in my eyes I would say his golden voice was one of the best male vocal singers of country music. Glad our radio stations dont cancel out great music from the past.
One of the most mellow recognizable voices out there whos brought light to some beautiful songs
Randy Travis is such a legend and him singing after a stroke is just something he would do what a good guy! God bless
Randy Travis is my favorite singer every since I was a little girl
Fantastic randy this is great to see him sing again love his voice
stroke sucks I had a massive one two years ago eyes are still messed up I thank God Im alive
JaBari Ellison hope you have a full recovery!
Michael M. Michael M. While I agree with you, there's a time and a place for everything. Consider it not being on a comment about a person's debilitating stroke.
We have human bodies that are open to illness. God knows this and is sovereign. He has not made us robots that he controls. Sometimes He does choose to do miracles, and other times He allows things that difficult as they may be to us, inspire, encourage and motivate us to be better. If life was perfect all the time, we wouldn't have the valleys in life to teach and cause us to call on Him.
JaBari Ellison God bless you friend!!!!!
Michael M. He has his reasons 1 day every knee shall bend and every tongue shall confess THAT HE is LORD!!!!!! Peace
May God gives the strength, and tenacity to continue with his full recovery. God bless him, and thank you for your music. Country music rocks!!!
Every artist seen or heard about in this.....AN EPICALLY HUGE THANK YOU👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💖

Randy Travis, , what a class act! I named my youngest boy after Randy..
+DJ F - "Bruce Traywick?"
That is beautiful my only son was named after him as well.Travis
Although I'm not one who likes country music. There are a few songs I like mainly from the olden days but I will say this that RANDY TRAVIS has/had before the stroke the most genuine-sounding country voice I've ever heard out of all the popular country singers. In other words, he doesn't have to fake a country twang to sound "country" it just comes naturally and effortlessly with him. Out of all, RANDY TRAVIS wins hands down as far as the best vocal sound for country. He stands out in spades to me!!!
Randy Travis you are a legend! Never stop being you!
I Wish Randy well, He Is Great!!!
This gave me chills. God bless him
Miss him. Hope he will be back
I love, I adore, I treasure every single song of Randy forever.
Good for him love all the support
His voice is still so amazing
Rest In Peace Mr. Daniels!
God bless him 🙏 may God keep blessing him with the strength to get better...love you Randy ❤️🙏
