This is an INCREDIBLY rare event in hockey, something of a historic moment in the sport. You could hear both announcers saying they had never seen anything like it before.
I was there at this game, im a season ticket holder. By FAR the most exciting and emotional game I've been too. They did for their captain who got hurt, it was the most beautiful example of winning the game for your teammate
Agreed! They rallied together for Joe after sleepwalking the first 50 minutes. I was at the first Stars/Sharks playoff game where Belfour lost his mind after being heckled all game. Never heard the tank that loud before. I imagine this game was even louder.
The first round of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs can be argued to be the rest first round that whole decade. You had the best team in the league knocked out of the playoffs in the fewest amount of games possible by a team that won their first ever playoff series, all of the division winners lost (the teams that beat them called themselves the Wild Card Chaos Squad on Twitter), 3 series that went to Game 7, and then you had this. Watching this happen in real time on TV was absolutely incredible. The fact that San Jose came back from 3-1 down in the series to force the Game 7 was something else, but seeing them rally like this when they were left for dead? Nothing short of incredible. Thanks for doing this! One of the best sports moments in the last decade for sure!
It's impossible to keep up with the puck, you MUST watch the body language of the players. Edit: A 5 minute power play is not the norm, it only happens when there's a major penalty. Normally you see minor penalties which are for 2 minutes and if the team with the man advantage scores the power play ends. During a major the team with the advantage can score as many as possible within the 5 minutes.
This is rare because, most of the time, a power play only lasts for two minutes or until the team with with the man advantage scores a goal. This was rare because it was a five minute power play and it remained a power play even if the team with the man advantage (in this case the Sharks) scored.
Power Play means your team will have a one-man or two-man advantage. Goals scored on a PP are Power Play Goals. On the flip side, Shorthanded goals are scored when you're one or two men down.
Yes! I remember that penalty. Not only was it a power play, they capitalized on it. They were basically pissed, as I’m sure all of us Sharks fans were, at what happened to Joe Pavelski, and basically made a statement to the other team…. This is what happens when you take one of our guys out. I’m a Sharks fan! I have been a Sharks fan my entire life. Born and raised in the Bay Area. The Shark Tank (what fans and locals like to call the arena) gets loud. I miss going to games. I need to go to one again soon. Love your videos. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to more.
💯🔥💯Yes!!!!!! San Jose Sharks!!!!! If it wasn't for the Sharks starting in '92-'93, my 2 brothers and I wouldn't have been playing Ice Hockey for 27 years. Hockey has grown so much in the Bay Area. All we're missing is a Stanley Cup win!! 🔥🦈🔥🦈GO SHARKS!!🦈🔥🦈🔥
Like some of the Sharks faithful in the comments, I was there as well! This was a bit of an "out-of-body" experience due to pure shock. The Shark Tank was rocking at a level I haven't experienced in years. If you haven't already, you should also watch the Anaheim Ducks comeback against the Edmonton Oilers in the 2017 playoffs. Great vid, Courtney!
I've wanted people to react to this for so long. I watched the last 10 minutes in pizza parlor to eat away my sorrows and next thing I know me and 5 other people are going nuts in this Mountain Mike's. Loved this moment. Go Sharks baby!
This was the first time I watched the whole Power Play, I was on a plane on my honeymoon from San Jose to London. I left it was 3-0 & I did not know the outcome for another 11 hours and to find out the Sharks won when I turned my phone back on, I was screaming in the plane and my poor wife has to calm down her husband of two days
Absolutely incredible game... The Sharks, on that penalty lost their captain, Joe Pavelski, who was knocked unconscious. After the Sharks furious comeback on that power play, Las Vegas (heavily favored) would eventually tie the game at the end of the game. They would go to overtime in the decisive 7th game. First goal would win the Series and the Sharks scored a beauty to beat the Vegas Golden Knights and move on to the next round. It was an epic night and an epic series. The San Jose Sharks franchise is pretty awesome. They've packed out their arena for decades with some of the loudest fans in the league. It's quite an experience and one I know you would love if you ever find your way to San Jose and the San Francisco Bay Area. Great reaction!
You need to watch the Oakland A's come back. The 2002 Oakland Athletics were one of the most exciting teams in baseball history, winning 103 games and breaking the American League record for 20 wins in-a-row.Sep 4, 2020.. There is also a movie called Moneyball..
I've been going to Sharks games for 20+ years and that was by FAR the greatest game I have ever seen in person, Front Row of the upper bowl on the red line, just over Fluery's right shoulder, what a view of that game winner play happening!
Usually power plays are 2 minutes long and for "minor" penalties (slashing, tripping, interference, etc.) and the 1 man advantage ends if the time runs out or if the team on the PP scores a goal. A "major" penalty is 5 minutes and almost never happens (a team might get 2-3 a year) the 1 man advantage lasts for the full 5 minutes and you can score as much as you want in that 5 minute window.
The context here was the Sharks were basically sleeping this whole game. They were about to be quietly eliminated from the playoffs when their captain (and captain of Team USA, nicknamed "Captain America") suffered that head injury. It woke everyone up, and when Couture scored that goal 10 seconds into the power play you could see him yell to the bench "THAT'S ONE!!!" I still get chills watching this.

I get a notification sharks goal ...I turn the tv back on watch the entire moment and that last goal by Barclay goodrow go in the net and all I could hear is my neighbors screaming go sharks ..this was history in the making and the start of a rivalry with the knights
Many people are fans of different sports whether is American football, baseball, football (soccer) but hockey fans are a special breed. We take our sport to heart and beyond
I was at this game. I'll never forget how loud that building was. The funny thing is, right after Vegas scored their third goal to go ahead 3-0 but before the Sharks mounted their historic comeback, I saw many Sharks fans get up and leave. I wish I could have seen the reaction of those people as they heard the deafening roar coming from inside the building they just left as they were walking out to their cars in the parking lot! I'll bet many of them were kicking themselves for leaving the game early!
Funny thing is Vegas ended up tying the game with like 45 seconds left in regulation time, so the game went to sudden death overtime, so there was even more craziness. You’d have to watch the full game highlights to see who won. I won’t spoil it here
You should watch the Episode of The Deep that covers this series. It shows you more video of them caring and helping Joe Pavelski off the ice. Seeing their Captain go down like that got the boys fired up and ready to kick some ass and get some revenge.
You missed the end. Vegas tied the game with less than one minute n regulation, then the Sharks won 5-4 in sudden death overtime, after over 18:00 of the OT period.
Regular penalty’s are 2 minutes and they expire if the other team scores a goal. However, a 5 minute penalty is if it’s an extreme penalty and the penalty does not expire when a goal is scored
I was there! The tank is already the loudest arena in the league, but the energy that night was something otherworldly! After being simply deflated the whole game, then to see Pav's blood on the ice...my buddy and I were literally walking out of the building. Then word came that it was a 5 min major... and Cooch scores, we stood at the top of the stairs and listened to the electricity shoot through the room! Needless to say, I had no voice the next 2 days!

Unfortunately we didn't win, but we did score on the power play. If you get a chance, please review the 2019 Blues story about their licker room song Gloria. It turned their team around from last place in the NHL to winning the Stanley Cup
To provide some context: -This was a playoff game 7, which is the most intense game possible in hockey- it means the winner advances to the next playoff round and the loser's season is over. - Most powerplays are only 2 minutes long and the team on the pp is only allowed to score 1 goal (if they can). However, especially egregious penalties may warrant a 5-minute power play, during which the power play team is allowed to score as many as possible. That is what happened in this game. - At the time of the power play, the Sharks were losing 3-0 with only 10 minutes left in the game. This is a huge deficit. 99% of teams will not be able to win when down 3 with only 10 minutes left. - The Sharks scored 4 on this power play (4 goals in about 4 minutes, which is nuts) to take the lead. - Las Vegas scored just a few minutes after the power play to tie the game at 4, sending it to overtime. - The Sharks won in overtime, completing the insane comeback in front of their home-crowd fans and advancing them to the next round of the playoffs.
Missed some details in this one. The Sharks were down 3-1 in the series and then won 2 straight to get it to a game 7, which you just saw where they ended up down 3-0 and came back to take the lead in that power play, then Vegas tied it with a little over a minute left to send it into overtime and then had a long back and forth OT ending with a Goodrow game winner and the place went apeshit.

I'm sure you looked it up, BUT in case you didn't, the Golden Knights actually tied the game in the final seconds of the 3rd period, forcing overtime. The Sharks then finished the job and won 5-4 in OT
I was there, and as a SJ fan, it was one of the most insane atmospheres I've ever been in for a sporting event. When I got home, I had to rewatch it Randy Hahn's play by play because it was that nuts.
You should do a reaction to any of the Calgary Hitmen “Teddy Bear Toss” hockey games where the crowd throws teddy bears at the first goal of the games. The bears and stuffed animals are then given to charity.
We can't see our Captain drop like that. (they didn't show you his face coming off the ice when they picked him up where he was still bleeding blood drops down.) People forget that. Especially the Knights fans. Look, not to sound like a homer, which in hockey talk means 'stupid loyalty'..... But, two people hit him in succession to cause a significant injury resulting in blood. That's a major! If you get hit by a high stick? Normally, this is a normal two minute penalty. But in hockey, if it draws blood... it's becomes a 4 minute double-minor. 5 minute major's are only reserved for either fighting, or extremely violent multipule minor penalties that added on top of each other so much we basically had to call it 5. So, they we're down 3-0 with 10 minutes left in game 7. 5 minute major. We can score at will. We just saw our leader bleed through his ear. This is it. Light up your loyalty.

If you like comebacks, I have the perfect one for you to watch! In the 2010 playoffs the Philadelphia Flyers (my favorite team) made a *huge* comeback in a series against the Boston Bruins. I won’t say too much and ruin it, but it was one of the greatest moments I’d ever seen! I’d love to see your reaction to it.
definitely an incredible comeback but they don’t tell you in the video the call for a 5 min major was an AWFUL call. It should’ve been a 2 minute minor . AT THE MOST a 4 min double minor. But even that’s too much. The refs totally put their finger prints on this game … and not in a good way. Also you were right that the power play means they have one extra player for that period of time. A 5 min major means it’s continuous and they have the extra player for the 5 mins no matter what. A minor penalty means once they score the penalty ends . A double minor gives them a chance to score twice . It absolutely 100% should not have been a 5 min major . Anyone whose objective agrees with that. (I’m not saying I’m objective I’m a huge Vegas fan) . But most other people in the league agree it was an awful call. Also. This video left out an important part of the game. Vegas tied the game again with seconds left in the game and it went to overtime. San Jose won in overtime . So Vegas did fight back
This is one of the most controversial games in the last 20 years. First of all, most penalties are only 2 minutes, and when a goal is scored the penalty ends. With this major 5 minute, the penalty will not end when a goal is scored (as you saw). However, the play that caused Vegas to get the penalty was really not a penalty, the call by the ref was very poor, and it allowed San Jose so much time on the powerplay. This was in game 7 of the series in the playoffs, so whoever wins is going to the next round and the loser's season is over. This game was talked about for months because a bad call ended Vegas' season
@@abakella nah. Pavelski was pushed on the face off, sure. There's really no issue with that, you gotta be planted on a face off. The blood came when he hit his head and the bubble mounted improperly (no ear guards) on his helmet meant the screw for the j hooks on the side of the helmet stuck out a bit. That's not a penalty
@@abakella that's definitely not what had him bleeding. The cut is not anywhere on the front of his face, its on his temple where the improperly mounted j hooks were on his bubble visor. 2 min max maybe, but if there was no blood (which was NOT from the push) they wouldn't have called shit

Can you react to “Islanders score 4 goals on power play” I think it will be fun
A power play is when a player gets put in the box or thrown out of the game for doing something they were against the rules
You should react to the Boston Bruins epic comeback against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the playoffs. Never seen a crowd go that insane
oooo I'll check it out thanks!!! :)
@@CourtneyCoulston I believe it was in 2013.
You should react to Boston bruins game 7 comeback vs Toronto maple leafs
Vegas ends up tying it 4-4 but sharks win in over time
You should do a reaction to any of the Calgary Hitmen “Teddy Bear Toss” hockey games where the crowd throws teddy bears at the first goal of the games. The bears and stuffed animals are then given to charity.
The Edmonton Oil Kings do the same thing. It's not just the hitmen
@@UFCMania155 Yes, several teams do, I was just trying to point out one for her.
Hello Courtney i love your reactions. Can you react to ''The Life Story of Charles Keating, IV'' From the C4 Foundation.
Brady Seven Rings pls or the Red Sox 2004 comeback against the Yankees
Hockey rules!!!!
Bay of Islands, New Zealand are suppose to have some of the blue's sky's in the world. Is this true.
Lol should do reaction to hockey hits
Just from a guy from the South. Where is the puck. I can't keep up. Or don't care. But this game is crazy as Hell!!!
do a reaction on electroboom fails, u laugh alot i promice u,( hes has a phd in electronics and plays with dangerous high voltage stuff)
If I remember right that wasn't the last score. Vegas tied it 4-4 San Jose, Barclay Goodrow won in it ot?
Did you watch the rest of the game? Vegas would tie it late before San Jose won it in overtime
U should react to 5FDP: Gone Away. I can 100% guarantee you will cry
The Knights tied up the game so it went into overtime. Sharks won

The San Jose sharks represent the city of San Jose in my home state of California ( they are the interstate rival of my hometown Los Angeles:kings ( I know shocker I’m not a nba fan in a hockey fan ( this is a video of the LA KINGS WINNING THE 2014 Stanley cup ( the game and presentation ruclips.net/video/KNNzW_ixdPU/видео.html
Major Penalty Power Play.
And then they got hosed in the next round by the refs and the league
You missed the overtime !
React to lone survivor
My home town team.
woop woop!!! :D
Go Sabres
San jo my city 💯💯💯😂
What you react to F1 crashes?
my alltime favorite NHL game and im not a fan of either team.
$HARKSSSS
Then Vegas cry to NHL about it
Watch Nascar crashes
definitely an incredible comeback but they don’t tell you in the video the call for a 5 min major was an AWFUL call. So Vegas did fight back
Pretty embarrassing for flurry 😬
hi
hi
This is one of the most controversial games in the last 20 years. First of all, most penalties are only 2 minutes, and when a goal is scored the penalty ends. With this major 5 minute, the penalty will not end when a goal is scored (as you saw). However, the play that caused Vegas to get the penalty was really not a penalty, the call by the ref was very poor, and it allowed San Jose so much time on the powerplay. This was in game 7 of the series in the playoffs, so whoever wins is going to the next round and the loser's season is over. This game was talked about for months because a bad call ended Vegas' season
They should have not fucked around with such a big lead and ended it early then. Knights were bottlers.
