I bicycled in Europe from 1993 to my last bike trip there in 2010. This particular episode brought back great memories; Provence was by far my favorite area; the food, the wines, the markets, the joie de vivre of the people. I really miss that part of Europe. I hope I get a chance to go back one day, as soon as it is safer to travel.
I love everything about Europe. Ever since I was little I’ve wanted to travel to Europe. Like you said, the scenery and history are just fascinating. The first country on my list is Germany.
Just love Rick Steve's travel videos some video makers will give you silent sights of beautiful places but Rick brings them to life...... just the best.
That's it. I'm gonna live to France's southern is so beautiful, feels like another realm of existence, the atmosphere is so different, refreshing, relaxing.
What a fantastic educator and an inspiration to all!! Thank you so much Rick, you will never know how much you have changed my life and how much I look up to you.
France is a really nice country. I mean Paris nowadays is too crowded with thousands tourists whenever I go but other less popular areas such as Brittany, Provence, Loire Valley, and the countryside are like living in a fairy tale. Definitely one of my most favorite travel destinations.
He should have visited Cassis. It's only 40 minutes south of Aix. It was definitely worth the trip if you're traveling in Provence. The Calanques in Cassis were the most beautiful place we visited in Southern France.
Rick Steves, a treasure. Guarding my sanity with his contribution of great, healthy mental travel. Amazing. So grateful for these journeys. Respectful, informative, insightful. What a blessing.
Sending tons of love and appreciation to my most favorite travel writer!!! Rick you are just phenomenal in your content curation and you express these travels so beautifully. Can't help coming back to these artistic antiques over and over again ❤ More power to you!
Delighted these are offered up for my viewing pleasure. Dreaming of traveling when I can. Thank you, Rick Steves, for your years of fabulous advise and programs.
Sir Rick Steves you’re video is lovely 😊 and your voice so sweet sounds good and i loved the way you are , all your video is amazing excellent reporting and I loved redredred 🍷 wine 🍷 rejouir 👏 To live is to enjoy 😉 mercy god bless and peace
Rick's shows are the most decent and lovely travel shows to watch. When I need to clear my head I go to his videos. Like the old commercial "Calgon, take me away".... "Rick, take me away!"
There was a lady who lived in Arles, France who died at the age of 122 in 1997. The longest lived person who age has been verified. She knew the artist Vincent Van Gogh.
yes indeed! If you can find the director's edition of "Lust For Life" (the Kird Douglas film about the life of the artist van Gogh,he relates how while fiming in a cafe (frequented by Van Gogh); Jeanne Calment saw Douglas and reacted as if she had seen a ghost! Douglas physically resembled Van Gogh-and Mrs. Calment recalled that she had seen van Gogh in the same cafe, over 70 years before!
I have a so many of his travel books which are well written and even give a bit of local insight. I also highly recommend his phrase books if you're visiting somewhere that speaks another language. It's broken down so well along with how to pronounce it of you speak english
You have the best job! I was born in France and it's my favorite country on earth! I'm traveling around europe from my apartment through your amazing videos!
Bravo Rick, vous êtes très professionnel dans la description des curiosités de la région que vous visitez, votre enthousiasme fait plaisir à entendre. Merci pour ces vidéos enrichissantes 👍🇨🇵😘☕🥐
Life is short the world is wide Covid19 is making the change dramatically i am drained emotionally but this videos makes me the journey i will take on some day
Provence a great area love architecture the Aguaduct a history of the value of Rome. Architecture.Bull fires .Wine tasting a great to try.Great days in France,Great 1980s Ann Deakin Warwick UK March 2021.
Spent two Summers in the South of France in the 1970’s. Loved it. Haven’t ever been to Paris, but Paris doesn’t sound like my kind of place.....prefer smaller towns with less tourists. 👍.
This is videos it wonderful I was in this places most every years it beautiful natural in areas the Provence you can seen the Lavender field it bigger around the Provence region thank you for your videos. Greetings from Germany..
Gracias Rick, por las recomendaciones, estuve con my familia en Paris, versalles y algunos pueblos franceses, via Suiza ¡Inolvidable Francia!! Saludos desde Miranda, Venezuela!!
Hey.. thanx for helping recalling my memories of the city.. I spend a month there... very beautiful... I too have uploaded a video saved during having dinner with friends... the tribes skills... we used to see during dinner on weekends
Arles is also known as the home of Jeanne Calment. The longest lived person who's age has been verified. She passed away in 1997 at the age of 122. She knew Vincent Van Gogh.
Arles again an arena is seen great place to is it again.Povence a p,ace loved agree light in the ares great can see the the reason that painters enjoyed this region.Loved this area to.
We have good cheese! Not Cow cheese! Dear Rick, you have very soft eyes and your view on europe (especially germany) is to me a testament to the vitality of the transatlantic partnership! Thank you for that
Catpaw Productions exactly, it is just a bit playing with the bull, no violence. I hate when the spaniards neighboors finish to kill the bull, it is useless
i wouldn't even call it a fight, more like a game! no one gets hurt, if only world leaders were allowed to play this same way, oh human being, you own the show so lets rid earth of hate and pollution once and For All!!!
Mat Seg The bull is also eaten in Spain and no part of it goes to waste to which you will reply to me that it still doesn’t make it right. I won’t get into what’s right or wrong in judging a centuries old tradition that dates back to Roman times. It is what it is.
it's interesting that the Roman cities of Arles and Nimes had arenas with violent spectacles while nearby Greek Marseille did not, although it was a bigger and more important city during Roman times
1:40 Would you LOOK at those vegetables! That is Beautiful. I never seen all of them ripe like that in person before. Well maybe when I lived in California at the farmers markets but I have been in PA for 20+ years and I forgot what real produce looked like.
I moved up to Northeast PA three years ago and I have seen very good produce while living here. I do have my own garden so that might mess up the results but I have seen other people's gardens in the area and they are beautiful.
I got a chance to explore this region more thoroughly on my last bicycle trip, coming from the medieval city of Carcasonne. I was in too much of a hurry to get to Germany on my last trip even to do more than an overnigh on the edge of Avignon. This second trip along the French Med, I'm getting a little more familiar, but the French don't make even this tourist area great for cyclists. I stayed in a hotel within sight of the Nimes Amphitheatre, visited the Maison Carree, and rode across the Pont Du Gard on my way to Avignon. I still missed Arles. I'm hooked on Roman history. I'm sure I'll get another chance to visit.
Congratulations sir this is a very good description of the Provencal way of life and traditions. In Provence it is possible to find some circular middle aged village called corculades . These villages are built around the village castle and the central place. One of the best exemple is Montpezat 18 kilometers from the City of Nîmes. Anyway your presentation is one of the best I have ever seen. Let's visit the Provence and appreciate its way of life and historical monuments.
Would love to watch Rammstein in the Nimes arena. Such a great venue. Check out Volkerball if you haven't seen it and want to see more of the arena in action

Watching Rick since I was in high school back in the 90’s. Love him and his show!
I visited Provence and Avignon in 1995. What a magnificent walk on a broken bridge that evening.
I bicycled in Europe from 1993 to my last bike trip there in 2010. Southern France in summer seems like one of most relaxing places.
Especially Biarritz?!
Reminded me about Mr. Bean's Holiday.
Paradise on earth!
The villages are crowded in summer
It is you can trust me
Rick is such a genuine travel legend. If covid19 could be taken away, I would hit the road like this way
You should plan for a trip after COVID!
France is a really nice country. I mean Paris nowadays is too crowded with thousands tourists whenever I go but other less popular areas such as Brittany, Provence, Loire Valley, and the countryside are like living in a fairy tale. Definitely one of my most favorite travel destinations.
Don't forget The Dourgone.
He should have visited Cassis. It's only 40 minutes south of Aix. It was definitely worth the trip if you're traveling in Provence. The Calanques in Cassis were the most beautiful place we visited in Southern France.
This guy is an American treasure, up there with Bob Ross and Mr Rogers
Kevin Caldwell agreed
@Thomas Farrell maybe not so much anymore.

@Thomas Farrell
Shalom Aleichem
Peace and love....
I think Rick Steves and Fred Rogers are at least a stdev of IQ above Bob Ross though? Not saying they're geniuses, but they're much smarter than Ross.
Rick Steves, a treasure.
Guarding my sanity with his contribution of great, healthy mental travel.
Amazing.
So grateful for these journeys. Respectful, informative, insightful. What a blessing.
I loved this. I am currently in the south of France for school visiting from the united states, and this has helped me so much.
This is one of my all-time favorite episodes of the show ❤
Sending tons of love and appreciation to my most favorite travel writer!!! Rick you are just phenomenal in your content curation and you express these travels so beautifully. Can't help coming back to these artistic antiques over and over again ❤ More power to you!

Thanks again for putting up the show of great old Roman architectures and the people around.

That's incredible!
+Bill Bergendahl Jeanne Calment. It's her name.

In 2019, they are now questioning her age. Hopefully, she really was that age.

I was upset by seeing the bullfight at the start. But this is friendly bullfight, i would watch :D

Eat meat? What do you think happens at a slaughterhouse? Much worse for all involved.
Traditionally in Arles and Nîmes, or in the Camargue, the bulls are never killed. Just a game of skill between men and the bulls.
it's interesting that the Roman cities of Arles and Nimes had arenas with violent spectacles while nearby Greek Marseille did not, although it was a bigger and more important city during Roman times
