Stuff & Richard Tee en concert (Live Montreux 1976)

STUFF EN CONCERT (LIVE MONTREUX 1976). Dans la série « Comeback des années 70 », nombreux étaient les spectateurs à découvrir, lors du "Festival Riviera 76" du Castelet, un groupe musicalement très sympa et encore inconnu de ce côté-ci de l’Atlantique baptisé Stuff. La musique qu’ils produisaient était un mélange rafraîchissant de funk, de soul et de gospel. La formation, essentiellement constituée de musiciens de studio chevronnés, avait bonne presse aux States.
Joe Cocker et Aretha Franklin avait fait appel à leur « droiture musicale ». En effet, #Stuff est l’exemple type des formations constituées de musiciens de studio qui, par habitude ou par routine professionnelle, laissent rarement exploser leurs émotions sur scène. La "transposition studio/scène" manque alors de cette chaleur communicative si essentielle, ce petit manque de fureur scénique qui enflamme le public. Avec Stuff, on assiste à une musique propre, cadrée, à la mise en place exemplaire. Irréprochable à défaut d’être parfois bouleversante.
Dans cet extrait filmé lors du festival de jazz se déroulant à Montreux en 1976, Stuff, comprenant entre autres Richard Tee (piano), Cornell Dupree et Eric Gale (guitares), reprend un titre d'Earth Wind and Fire, That's The Way Of The World. #cadenceinfo #montreuxjazzfestival

STUFF IN CONCERT (LIVE MONTREUX 1976)
In the “Comeback of the 70s” series, many of us discovered during the “Riviera 76 Festival” in Castelet, a musically very nice group still unknown on this side of the Atlantic called Stuff. The music they produced was a refreshing blend of funk, soul and gospel. The band, essentially made up of experienced studio musicians, had good press in the States.
Joe Cocker or Aretha Franklin had appealed to their “musical righteousness”. Indeed, Stuff is the typical example of groups made up of studio musicians who, out of habit or professional routine, rarely let their emotions explode on stage. The “studio/stage transposition” then lacks this so essential communicative warmth, this little lack of stage fury which ignites the audience. With Stuff, we witness clean, structured music with exemplary implementation. Irreproachable if not sometimes overwhelming.
