Lol, Cam being the most powerful cleric in the world. Next campaign, one of their characters dies. They're looking for someone to bring them back. MARK: "There are powerful fey spirits and a silver dragon in the Dawn Republic. Rumor also has it that there is a legendary priest who can barely spell his own name. He will resurrect you if you offer him grapes."
im totaly stealing cam for my campaign. it is said that if you can reach elsiem. (thats where cam wants to go right) you can find a mighty cleric who can barely spell his own name. he will help you along as you can offer him something that he requires. he will then ask you to feed him grapes for an hour. after this he will help you however you can.
Poor Cam is practically useless in many fights. His fight damage isn't up to the level of others, his banishments are resisted, and even healing is often taken care of by Elora. But in this episode he really truly saves the day. Bravo.
He’s a life cleric correct? They are more healing based classes than true fighting. The spiritual weapons and guardians is the big offensive weapons for such a cleric. I’m guessing his cantrips are also mostly healing based as well.
This is what a boss battle should be. Awesome work Mr. Humes as always and great playing guys. Ps check out the cheeriness in Marks face as he is reminded of throwing balconies at Raynard
I've come back to this series after about two years and I just want to say that Juitou and Cam's bond is one of the most genuinely believable friendships I've ever seen, I really believed that Juitou would actually jump out of that window for Cam. It didn't feel forced for cool points, it was just perfect. And of course, serious and cool moment completely undercut by Cam Fucking Buckland being smarter than anyone gave him credit for and actually having a plan.
Wow, that might just be my now favorite episode. Great RPing, super tight situations, and of course fantastic DMing as always. Sad that we are approaching the last arc, but I'm very excited to see where Highrollers will go in the future.
What a truly amazing episode. I haven't been on the edge of my seat like this in quiet sometime. Can leaping out the window was epic beyond belief. If the campaign ended here I'd be happy.
Kim and Trott deserve inspiration dice for the window leaps. I remember Jiutou having one for the longest time, and can't even remember what she got it for...
Can we name the beholder in the background Nibbles or Munchy? He always seems to be attempting to eat whoever’s on that end of the table’s head, be it Mark or a BattleBoy
Tricking Karen into dismissing the dirgesinger in order to res Mirella was a stroke of genius. Absolutely brilliant. For a guy with an intelligence of 9, Cam can be one of the most clever bastards in the campaign.
Remember in the fight with Dimitriv, he also put up that protection circle so they didn't have to deal with any of the undead horde? I love it when players are clever, avoiding straightout fighting, or at least getting rid of a serious complication
@@rekaesmate3733 you could tell Mark was fighting between being impressed/proud of the ingenuity of his players and mad that his carefully designed combat was ruined. Was great.
Absolutely magnificent episode, all of you, great job. I've been a bit critical of Jiutou and her inconsistency, but that dive to save Cam was awesome. Again, great job.
if anyone is interested and for future reference, assuming earth like gravity, fall distance as function of time is 0.5*9.82m/s^2*T^2, with T being time. That means you'd fall roughly 130m in a 6 second round, ignoring air resistance. you reach terminal velocity at 52m/s after 12s
That's literally the first time he's done that. It's Jiutou and Elora that take and horde everything before anyone has a chance normally. Also he fired 4 shots and tried to pin Keren with the griffon. Not his fault he had bad rolls (for once).
out of curiosity i looked up what the official falling rules are because i didnt know either and apparently its 500 feet a turn according to pg 77 of xanathars guide.
Whenever someone uses Blight all I picture is Kylo Ten "That's 20..." - More "38..." - MORE "59 points of damage!" - *MORE!* Bonus slight spoilers: When the Bronze Griffin halted at Cam but realised he's ok and carried on for Jiutou. I pictured Cam pointing down and saying "Wrong floor"
Valia Voryth only because wizards would otherwise teleport the enemy 1000 feet up so they could die from fall damage. If it feels unrealistic or dumb, a dm may as well fudge the rules for flavor. See Keyleth and cliffs for further proof.
Mister Dayne it’s actually because of a thing called terminal velocity. Basically a falling object will only ever reach a certain speed while falling regardless of how far you fall
hey, if you want to get precise about falling rules, then on the turn they started falling, they would have dropped 500 feet. Round after that, 500 feet again.
He also has the insta death calculations wrong. It’s not going naragtive by half your maximum, it’s the full maximum past zero. He does a lot of things wrong in his little home brew setup but I guess those could be his home brew rules.
Clerics are tanks of done right. He’s just got shit for Con and they just do averages on rolls. I’ve got a level 10 cleric that has nearly 100 HP. Add on top of that the buffs I can do and I’m always tanking battles for our group.
I've always thought 20d6 was stupidly low. On average it's only 70 damage which some characters can walk away from by lv2 (18 constitution barbarian variant human with tough and one good hp roll can have 36hp and will only take 35 damage while raging). Even wizards with no con bonus are pretty safe by higher levels.
I don't know if the party ever figures it out (I'm only at 30 minutes in as I type this) but the monks' description of Karan combined with the ancestral sword gives the impression that Karan is a Blade Pact Warlock of Strahd.
although at 48 minutes in Mark mentions books of dark power which also need destroyed...which would point at pact of the tome...and of course there could be many interpretations of pact of the chain when tainted with vampirism. But I'm still calling Warlock!
The warlock thing was obvious. Mark was couching it in mechanics but not a wizard nor a sorcerer? As far as the sword goes it's just a magic sword. The book is just secret and forbidden knowledge. You're reading too much into both of those things.
Yes they aren't going to do something completely different. That wouldn't be very HIGH of them would it. It definitely wouldn't ROLL well with their audience

Almighty Eragon It would do, and Jiutou would likely have negated that if he rolled low enough. Although Matt used the same rule when Keylieth did this at 1000 feet for 100 d6

Niukoiku as much as he dresses it up as just nonchalantly rolling the dice for the players it's a subtle way to control the amount of Health the players have whether they realize it or not. While it may have been unintentional, more than likely he simply misspoke and meant to say 16 regardless of what the dice rolls stated
I'm also interested in where Jiutoe has gotten all these Superior healing potions from. The last several times she's used a potion on herself it's been a Superior, not greater, and I cannot remember a point where the party either received or could have afforded to buy all these Superior healing potions. Yet she seems to have quite a lot...and her alone. Maybe that's why he fudged the health numbers.
@@orionjaeger2822 It's possibly he knew she only had greater? I think they might've been given some at some point. But it's been a bit since I watched this.

That's Cam's tactic. Be useless and flail around for a few episodes, and pull out this awesome play on the big fights out of nowhere.

Woah! In episode 29 Cam's spiritual guardian was an 'angelic-looking Mirella'. Accidental foreshadowing? Love it.
Can I just say you had me giddy from start to finish of this one. Especially trott. Truly amazing story ark guys.
So far, Mirella is exactly how a Buckland should be. Seeing Mark RP more Bucklands next week is going to be so much fun.
Why hasn't Baris come to save the day yet? BARIS! WE NEED YOU!
