Appreciate the video. The very first thing I do when dropping a trailer is disconnect the lines first. It is very easy to get distracted. Just stick to your routine always.
Worked for this outfit 33 years. Distraction on pre and post trip can throw you off a lot. No UPS driver is as laid back as this. Often that move breaks the rear window.🦇
I learned a very long time ago to never let anyone talk to you while hooking up or unhooking a trailer. That was the day I got interrupted by a dock supervisor about which trailer to hook back up to and which door to put it in, I only had to unplug my pigtail (I had taken the two hoses off) . I got back in the cab to pull out from under the trailer I just dropped and then WACK! the light cord came through the back window. The steel socket on the end of the cord struck me in the head after coming through the back window. I had to get 15 stitches and several staples along with 2 weeks off work. I also learned to unhook air hoses and unhook pigtail first when dropping a trailer.
@@jojolopez177until the Union gets back to work that’s the game although it doesn’t appear as though anyone seen it and didn’t drop the trailer so let’s just call it a success
Used to work for United Van Lines in El Paso back in '82. Had a driver pull out without dropping the landing gear. Forklift wasn't strong enough to lift it.....Crank, Crank. Took over 8 hours {box was empty} & he got a nice long vacation after that. Seasoned driver, should have known better. Still chuckle about that to this day.
@@DECILFEEDERSAFETY It wasn't me, I'm a lot smarter than that. {to easy to ease forward before letting the trailer brakes go} It was another line driver that it happened to. He was let go after that.
I have used a 3 point mental check list every time I drop a trailer...I literally say in my head the following 3 things in this order: Landing gear down Fifth wheel unlocked All lines are unhooked I've used this same method since 1987 and have NEVER dropped a trailer or tore an airline or electrical cord
Enjoy your videos ❤. I am a retired UPS Feeder Driver out of Baltimore. Have my own You Tube channel - Trucker Steve CDL Instructor. May I use a part ( small clip) of your video on my channel?
Then you've never done a proper/legal post trip then! If a tire lost pressure for what ever reason, on site maintenance could fix the problem before the next driver picks up that trailer. I myself alway tell new drivers check tires often as possible! I hate picking up a trailer with my time ticking away having to wait to get it fixed because last driver never checked them when dropping it!
You are the worst kind of person. The number of times I came to pick up my trailer and had to wait 30-40-60 minutes for them to change out a clearly flat tire is infuriating. Wastes my time, for no reason. If you post trip it, you tell maintenance and then you still get to drive away. takes less than 5 minutes of your time, and only takes like 1 minute if all the tires are ok. But when I am now late for all my stops because some asshat couldnt take 60 seconds and check their tires, it makes me want to hit someone.
@@bennraxx7908 you wear a safety vest while you drive along with your driving gloves too? It's actually the last you do, if a proper disconnect is performed.
Just a normal ups driver.
@@stephenmorris9704there is no proper or improper way. The proper way is the way you do it every time.
That's how they all do it at JB Hunt

This type distraction happens anytime your routine is broken. Whenever your routine gets broken start your routine over to avoid this. Stay focused!!
💯

No one gets in a truck like that. But since this is for educational purposes we'll let it slide 😂
too funny, looks like Dave also hit a few things with the trailer. 🤔

Sums it up good from what I’ve seen on the road.
Well at least now you will have 3 days off to get some rest
