Where to eat Hoi An - Trying "The Best Banh Mi in Vietnam" according to Anthony Bourdain

- Our feasting in Vietnam continues! Being surrounded by a bunch of delicious food options makes life difficult. So many choices, so little stomach space 😋 Let us take the thinking away from you as we have found some of the best places to eat in Hoi An, Vietnam.
Our first stop takes us to a local An Bang market to pick up some produce as well as to try some fresh and tasty pho with our accommodation's lovely host - Kim. The pho shop is tucked away in the outer wall of the market if you come looking for the stall and is only open while the market is open.
Cho An Bang Market Hoi An (Early morning local market)

Hours: 5am - 9am daily
Next up we try a regional specialty noodle dish of Hoi An called Cau Lau. Trang from XO tours (in our previous video) recommended this as the best in Hoi An and we can back that up cause the noodles were amazing! It's a restaurant in Hoi An's Ancient Town, so definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

We've kept you waiting long enough... now it's time to have the greatest Banh Mi in existence from a shop called Banh Mi Phuong in the heart of Ancient Town in Hoi An. This branch is where the owner now apparently resides and overlooks the quality. Banh Mi places high in Peter's Top 5 must eat things in Vietnam so this was a must visit especially since it serves the best bahn mi according to the late and great Anthony Bourdain and he was spot on.

Coffee is a big deal in Vietnam so we tried a specialty coffee of central Vietnam which involves blending coconut, condense milk and coffee together into one delicious Vietnamese coffee. Cocobox is a franchised cafe so there's quite a few branches around. There's even multiple Cocobox coffee shops in Hoi An's Ancient/Old Town but the location we went to was:

Kim our amazing host takes us to her family's favourite restaurant in Hoi An to eat some Banh Xeo which also happens to be one of Yen's favourite Vietnamese food. If you love Banh Xeo, this place makes an exceptional one and it's definitely a very local Vietnamese restaurant that we were fortunate enough to try thanks to Kim.

For our final meal you will need to book a room at An Banh Stilt House Villa and ask Kim very nicely to take you to the market to pick up some goodies so that she can cook it back at her home for you :) An Bang Stilt House Villa is where we stayed during our entire time in Hoi An. @@PeterandYen The out-of-the-way Bánh xèo Hải Đảo in Hoi An was well worth it - my friends thought I was some sort of wizard pulling out such a great place that looks so humble from the outside. Hahn Restaurant in Hue was a great one too - they did a lot of the other imperial foods you recommended in this channel as well, and they were great. ALL food in Hue was excellent.
And obviously Bánh Mì Phượng rules. We tried Madame Khan (Queen of Bahn Mi) and it was nowhere near - Bánh Mì Phượng’s reputation is deserved.

Peter and Yen yes we do have quite a lot Vietnamese restaurants here serving banh xeo. We tried a few times, amazing!! But we really want to try the authentic one in Vietnam for sure to compare 👍🏻

We have yet to try Pho....always looks so delicious and nutritious! The excitement for the Banh Mi - love it, rave review too....we'd have to seek out a veggie version though. Oooo we had Banh Mi Phuong too! But we actually liked another joint much more in Hoi An. It's called 'Madame Khanh' or Banh Mi Khanh. Was much more flavoursome in our opinions

Peter found it ok coz he's a pretty confident guy plus thankfully Hoi An isn't quite as busy as some of the other cities! Awesome episode guys! I saw Banh Mi in the title and was like omg I hope they went to Banh Mi Phuong and you did that just that! Haha I just hate how they've ruined normal sandwiches for me now. Like I can't go into a Subway in London anymore without thinking how much cheaper and better a Banh Mi in VN is.

You guys are definitely more gutsy! I wouldn't dare scooter around in a foreign country with busy as traffic! Tried it last time in Thailand and that was really fun but roads were all clear coz we were in some random island 😁 haha not a fan of squid? 🙂

Our WiFi at the hotel we staying at is so bad too 😅 we were amazed we were even able to upload this week's video! Been using apps that are all in Chinese and just fumbling our way around lol. Thankfully Peter can speak some Chinese so there's a decent amount of asking people for help or funny conversations with strangers 😁

I've eaten banh mi all over Vietnam and this one is Hoi An is overrated. And the the wait line is a cluster fuck.

Lol guys, you went to the wrong place, Anthony Bourdain did NOT go to this one, haha. It’s the same chain, but he went to the on just outside the market in the Center of old town. Everyone gets it wrong and says he went to this one, but no one clearly ever watched his video. Even though it’s the same franchise (banh mi Phuong), the way they make banh mi is very different.
The one in the central market is much much smaller and the old woman there makes it with much more care and takes much longer to do it. It’s much, much better than the one that you went to…which is always crowded with tourists….because EVERYONE mistakenly thinks it’s he place Bourdain went to. It’s a self perpetuating myth that no one ever takes 1 min to research to show it’s false. Very odd.
Madam Phuong (the owner of the original stall) opened up this restaurant after her bahn mi stand became so popular thanks to Anthony Bourdain's review. It's at this restaurant which she resides, overlooking the quality of the food and she works both in the kitchen and behind the counter too. That's why this is the right place to go to but the original stall probably still sells delicious bahn mi too and it would be nice to try it as well.
