As someone who has been in the fate fandom for years let me say one thing, the people who actually scare newcomers into getting into fate the most are usually the hardcore fans that want other people to start in the most perfect place possible (aka the way they want), so they end up fighting in the comments about the watch order scaring newcomers (when just taking the first step and starting at the place they preferred would probably be way more effective into getting them into the series).

I kinda disagree, like fate on its own is like any other series, it's had it easy points and hard points but overall it's not to difficult to get into. What makes Fate and by extension the nasuverse confusing is how everything comes together. For example and this is a spoiler for fate grand order, Fou in fate is a beast and a threat to humanity but comes to understand humanity alittle. However in Tsukihime he is primate murder which is connected to alot of other things like dead apostles. That what makes Fate and by extension nasuverse confusing is things like this or things that aren't mentioned too much in the more popular parts of the series.

The interesting about FGO though, is that it's also divided the Type-Moon fanbase into people who only like "classic" Type-Moon stuff like Tsukihime, KnK, and F/sn and the people who are just pretty open to FGO and new stuff coming out.

Part 1 wasn't bad by any means, but I feel like most of the people that start the anime are expecting stands and crazy powers but instead we get Hamon and Vampires. Part 2 was the same as part 1, but I feel that Joseph made it even more entertaining with his attitude. Part 3 is long and has a very plain protagonist. But it compensates with the return of Dio, side characters and the introduction of stands. Part 4 and 5 have a really good plot with the adventure of finding out the identities of their antagonists Kira and Diavolo. Part 6 has an amazing cast with completely new characters. And finally both part 7 and 8 are intriguing and fascinating because of the new world that is presented and I feel is the 2 parts that have the most of that "Aralia style" that we all love.

He's barely on screen, when he is he's just there in the darkness, being a drama queen, spewing cryptic sh*t or just messing with the people he's talking to. And when he does finally properly return, it's just another stand battle (stand user gets introduced, they struggle against him, Jotaro pulls a previously unseen ability of star platinum and then he wins), only slightly longer. It's about as compelling as my pfp

I think that for a lot of people Part 1 just felt generic in the middle and kinda melodramatic throughout. I find curious that people think that Jotaro is plain when he is basically written to be a guy trying to act though when he is in reality he is quite the Jonathan. He is a Teenager/Adult passing through an edgelord phase, which makes him intrinsically funny (to me at least).
I don't think that JoJo has any actually bad parts by any means, it just that in parts 1 and (maybe) 2 Araki didn't fully find what JoJo should be about yet. Because of that, i don't understand why the JoJo fandom is so against the idea of skiping parts. Maybe someone who skiped parts might be more inclined to comeback to those skiped part because he simply grew to apreciate the great work that is JoJo, meanwhile someone who was not feeling it in part 1 just might never comeback. Anyway, it is just weird that there is such a pushback against that.

And Dio and Jotaro didn't really have any *personal* beef with each other. Sure, Jotaro's mom got sick because of him, but it's not like Dio did it on purpose to screw with Jotaro, nor was she the only Joestar affected. She was just collateral damage. It's not like with Dio and Jonathan, were the two grew up together, saw each other as rivals and clashed several times throughout part 1. Not to mention Dio attempting to ruin Jonathan's life throughout the years

As someone who has gotten into Fate somewhat recently I don't really get why everyone else says its so complicated. You have a visual with three different endings, Fate/Zero is a prequel, and literally everything else is alternate timelines/universes. That's it. It's not really that hard.

"You have a visual with three different endings"
      And here's the thing:
people just ignore Visual Novel, mainly due to 3 reasons:
      1. Less mainstream medium, so people don't know if they would like it
      2. Long, so it can scare away because of commitment
      3. Due to way Type-Moon is publishing stuff... let's just say if you are not in Japan, this particular VN is not the easiest in terms of accessibility
Which is a sad thing, because reading VN is the simplest way to get into Fate (if you don't see problem with any of the 3 points). You don't need to think about orders and stuff, you just read. This isn't adaptation, this wasn't written as spin-off or prequel.
But due to those 3 reasons... yeah... you have this weird thing of people arguing about orders.

Most of the series currently adapted are (usually) self contained in their own timeline separate from the others
The only time that certain things cross paths is in fgo
    For example
    In apocrypha
There are next to no references to fate zero or stay night besides the flashbacks to Mordred’s past cause ya know
Son of King Arthur and all that
Fgo (and technically carnival phantasm and grand carnival) are the only times that stuff crosses over
I’m probably wrong so let’s see how this goes

yeah but to a random person getting in to fate it looks really complicated and kinda kills your motivation to watch it, when I was planning to watch fate for the first time I was confused as hell because I kept looking for a "proper" way to watch it and I was completely new to the series, I got lots of images of the timelines of the series with words I haven't even seen until then, like heaven's feel ritual and fate/stay night visual novel, I was like "there's a visual novel? I thought it was an anime??", then after much time and research I just said fuck it and watched fate/zero then the stay night adaptation by studio deen then UBW, I started to understand stuff as continued to watch the series and since I did some research before watching it I didn't go in completely blind, then after reading a few stuff on the wiki and after finishing multiple animes I understood what the hell was going on, it's not super complicated however you have to know and understand stuff essential to the series, so to a newcomer who doesn't wanna put in the amount of effort I put in when I started watching the series, they would be put-off by the series and not watch it cuz' to them it's too complicated and not worth the effort, I was genuinely interested in the fate series and later on the nasuverse(tsukihime and kara no kyokai) so that helped in watching the series, also because I was just enjoying the plot, the lore, everything, all of it in my eyes was just so cool and interesting watching for the first time, so it was really fun watching.

@@freddiem6805 Because a Ruler only pops up if a specific fail safe activates, that being if all 7 masters decide to team up the Grail will summon another set of 7, and since team battles of that scale are far riskier in regards to collateral and revealing magic a Ruler is there to keep things contained.
Technically, if things were working better, it's possible a Ruler should have been summoned. However, since the Einzberns fucked up when they summoned Avenger Angra Mainyu in the 3rd Grail War and it was killed, resulting in its soul entering the Grail itself, the system was partially corrupted/damaged since then. That's why actually Evil/Monstrous Servants were able to be summoned, think Gilles in the 4th War or Medusa in the 5th. Without the corruption from Avenger's soul, it would've been impossible for those two to be summoned.
Tl;dr we only know Ruler gets summoned for sure when it's a 7v7, and the Grail in the main timeline had been corrupted/damaged by Avenger's soul ever since the 3rd Grail War.

@@freddiem6805 So, Apocrypha is a divergent timeline from the original timeline. The difference is that the Einzberns cheat differently in the 3rd Grail War.
In the main timeline, they try to summon an overwhelmingly powerful Servant in the Avenger class, and ironically get a super weak Servant instead who dies pretty much right away, but whose soul corrupts the Grail and system.
Then, 4th Grail War (Zero) happens, followed by 5th Grail War (Stay Night). While these, especially the 5th, are filled with issues and the like, the specific conditions needed to trip the fail safe to summon a Ruler and 2nd faction (that being all 7 Master and Servants teaming up) never occur.
In the Apocrypha timeline, they try to play is smart and cheat by summoning a Ruler class Servant, and summon someone who normally wouldn't quite qualify, since normally Rulers are supposed to not have a wish but the person they summon does. They do this because the Rulers get Command Seals/Spells for every other Servant, which while they can be overpowered by the Master's Command Seals/Spells still would waste their opponents biggest trump card/creating a moment of vulnerability.
In the Apocrypha timeline, the 3rd Grail War ends with Darnic Preston Ygdemmillenia (I think that's how you spell it) stealing the Greatsr Grail and the whole infrastructure with help from the Nazis, then immediately betraying them and running off with it on his own. Then, after 60ish years of experiments and studying the Greater Grail, he understands it well enough to run a full fledged Grail War in his backyard. He purposefully sets it up so him and his allies all summon 7 Servants as a faction, and let the fail safe activate to summon a second set of 7. This also results in a Ruler being summoned, since it's part of the same failsafe that results in the second set of 7 Servants being summoned.

The complication and confusion of fate comes from the fact the source material is a visual novel with 3 different routes. When it comes to Fate/zero though, there's really no complication it's just a prequel to what happened before the start of the visual novel (no routes just the anime) and those fans berating people are just smug assholes.
Unlimited blade works and heavens feel are 2 seperate routes not sequels/prequels to each other and I can easily see why people might get confused if not knowing that.
All other weird fate anime you hear about without those titles mentioned above imo can be ignored.

    • @asshatt6908

This basically. The secret to simplify Fate is to just highlight Stay Night and Zero (and maybe the other Type Moon stuff like Tsukihime, Mahoyo, and KnK if you're feeling adventurous), and treat the other Fate stuff as supplementary materials. This is actually why I really like Red Bard's intro to fate video, its the only one I've seen that actually makes this clear distinction.

In terms of "needing to go outside of a show to understand it" I wouldn't say it does. Follow release order, que up Dean Stay Night, and you can follow that show without issue. The problem is most of the fandom hates the thing that was meant to be the starting point.
Once you finish that, there is the post it note of knowing that "practically each series follows a different timeline, some with small differences, some that follow an entirely different path;" but I just summed that up in a sentence.

Sooo Connor stated with Jojo any way you watch it is fine as long as you aren't skipping parts. But coming in at random points of fate is a bit like skipping parts, which is why people tend to bring it up. The awkward part is there isn't really a proper adaptation of the first true part of the VN (DEEN thing is a fusion of all parts, not the first part) so that makes the where part a bit awkward.
Which I suppose is why people resort to saying just read the VN. Fate Zero, which is the best part (Heaven's Feel being a close second or better in some people's books), is a prequel which supposes you've gleaned the info from the part that takes place in the future (the un-adapted first part), but it's still the best place to start if you don't like to read.

    • @vladprus4019
      @vladprus4019 3 года назад +1

To add that: VN also is completely self-contained, has all explanation of stuff so you don't need to "do research" to understand things and overall most of problems of "getting into Fate" are just non-existent if you start with VN so it is simplest way of doing it (with the exception of stuff like... searching it on the web, because it just cannot be accessible on Steam, no).
ALSO every single spin-off clearly assumes you know Stay Night, as they don't even bother explaining stuff that are not specific to that spin-off (like, Apocrypha having 3rd Magic as plot point yet not telling what it is).
It is just some people are acting like it matters way too much than it actually is and are overzealous about it.

Honestly for me a lot of stuff that I enjoyed in Zero were missing in UBW ) , then the Heaven's feels movies : Kirei is back in full glory baby. which automatically makes it better than UBW . In the end , if you stick to what ufotable has made , you will have a fairly self contained story.

      @asshatt6908 3 года назад

@@freddiem6805 If you're still interested, I actually recommend reading the VN when you have the time. The thing you mentioned about Shirou not being so hot is a bit of a flaw with how Ufotable adapted him since they removed a lot of his inner monologues which gave deeper context to most of his actions. Also the VN has even more Kirei so if you like him, there's that (the fight at the end of HF actually lasts for twice as long as it does in the anime, and is way more climactic)
