We freeze water in plastic bottles during summer and every time someone steps out, we take a couple of them and give to the taxi driver or veg vendor or anyone who may not have access to cold potable water. The smile on their faces and the blessings on their lips is worth the effort.

Hi Didi.. As usual fantastic video.. I think, by following your summer tips, we can make this hottest summer, the most enjoyable one. As a south Indian, there are many traditional customs we usually follow from the very beginning of summer. First of all we used to store small raw mangoes in salt water and keep it in glass jars.. This is of great use till the next one year.. The best combination for Kerala food, 'Kanji'. Other thing we do is, cut the raw mangos into long pieces and dry them and keep in glass jars.. When the season changes, we can make pickles out of it.. Mouth watering..Dry mango pickles😋... We have large plantation of Tapioca.. We used to cut Tapioca into round round pieces and make them dry..this is used for making Tapioca chips..Then we'll grind some of them into fine powder in a mixer jar. It's the best one to make delicious 'Tapioca Puttu'.. A traditional Kerala dish... These are the main things we follow from generation to generation..

We had Coconut and Mango trees and every weekend in Summer we will get Tender coconuts and also Mangoes from our garden. Now, trees are still there, but nobody to get us the tender coconuts or mangoes. Would love to continue the tradition and have my kids experience the same.
My grandmother used to make ‘Vadu manga’ pickle, but getting small mangoes from vendor who use to come to our house regularly during summer. We used to have a very good relationship with him and used to call him Maanga Thaatha. Now that tradition of selling mangoes by going door to door is gone. Would love to develop personal relationship with these type of people if they start selling door to door.
I would love to continue these summer traditions 😊

Our summer tradition is to put some water in the balcony for the birds. During these hot days, they need some water too..
During our childhood my mom used to make butter milk and store it in a large pot for cooling and used to give that butter milk to the passers by during the peak summer hours.. That is the tradition I love to follow when all this pandemic is settled down 😊 Thanks for sharing this great video

Hai I am from Kerala here in summer we can get lots of mangoes, jackfruits etc on summer . So most of kitchen is filled with dishes with these mambazhapullissery ( a curry with small size ripe mangoes, Curd and coconut paste), chakka Ada ( a snack with ripe jackfruit ,rice flour,& jaggery made in leaf), chakka puzhukku (a side dish with Jack fruit) so & so many dishes. We prepare chakka varattiyathu & mango cooked and kept it for around 1 year. Later used it for making payasam (a desert), or pulissery . And also it's the time for making pickles and so on

The summer tradition followed by me which my grandmother, my mother, my masis and my family follows is pickles, we sun dry small slices of kachi keri which is used the year around for our regular lentil dals and besan kadhi. We sundry moong dal vadis, urad vadis to make delicious sabzis, we partially sundry tomatoes and then powder it to add in gravy vegetables, we make mogra sherbet in which we make a watery sugar syrup and then mogras are added to it and partially kept in the sun for 1 day then we need to remove the mogras and strain the sherbet and fill in glass bottles. Put 2/3 tablespoons of sherbet add cold water and relish it. During summers my mom used to even pluck neem leaves in the evening wash it and then grind by adding water .we all at home had to have atleast 1/4 cup of this neem juice which would keep our internal body cool, we never suffered from the heat boils or pimples. Above all who can forget the tradition of buying a new matka every year and to feel the taste of that earthy mitti while drinking that soothing water and to use the last year's matka to grow plants🥰

    Hi I am from Odisha.
Our summer tradition is making woodapple juice (Bela pana). In fact we celebrate this as Pana Sankranti on Odia new year. Pana making is always our tradition. This unique pana(juice) is something you won't find in any restaurant but it's popular in every Odia houe. It not only tests amazing but it also has a lot of medicinal benefits. It's a perfect summer drink. Now a days bala is considered as a super food. It can't be made with electronic equipment, only with hand it can be prepared. My grandmother, my mother and I, all the three generations are preparing this drink in every summer.
Far better than the cola and other toxic drinks.
I have been posting pictures of Pana Sankranti celebration since last three years on instagram. Tulishree CB Pradhan.

The summer season is upon us and while it usually drains the shit out of us, there are some joys to be found in the those little things which are bounded as summer traditions. I'm sure every household has one... I've had quite a few.
We ground our own spices, from garam masala to turmeric to coriander powder. My mom and dadi sun dry the whole spices during this scorching heat and powder them to get those aromatic blend. Surely there is shift from grinding them in mortar pestel to mixer grinder now, I would like to keep this tradition alive instead of filling my kitchen with store packaged spices.
Shakes & Smoothies are great & all, but nothing beats a chilled glass of lassi In summer. In our home,we are bound to have atleast a glass of lassi everyday, that too,in kulhads(kulhads mein lassi > any drink). Each sip of lassi is like a blessing in disguise.
A sharbat which has managed to refresh us within minutes for the longest time. In water or milk, Rooh Afza has always been the real summer saviour.I won't let my kids forget the flavours of lassi or rooh afza admist those carbonated beverages.
Every Indian child will tell you that happiness can be bought in just 5 bucks in the form of those orange bars from the nearest ice-cream cart.In this time of cone and cup ice-creams, orange bar hits different. 90's kid would know the feeling and I'm making sure that this tradition live and soar in coming times. Can't wait to visit the ice cream thela. Hopefully soon 🤞🤞
I'm praying to God so that we can get hold of this corona situation and everybody gets to enjoy the summer to the fullest.❤️❤️

Summer memories in my childhood r so many. I used to wait whole year for juicy mangoes . My mom will keep the mangoes first to god and pray and next to the expired elders in the family on one good day. Then only we will start eating mangoes. This is our tradition . I too follow the same . I laugh and remember my childhood when I saw my kids eagerly wait to see when I will keep mangoes to god and give us. It's a life cycle, our childhood is over but we can enjoy and remember our sweet memories of our childhood by seeing our kids. Love u and thank u by this video I remembered so many childhood memories.

Since ages all Indian homes have the tradition of prepping themselves for the yearlong's supply of dried food items like papads and other tidbits of various shapes and sizes which are often fried especially during days of festivities. Like so in my home too, both maternal and marital, ladies of the extended family assemble at one house and start at dawn to lay out on the terrace, fares of papads, 'kurdai', 'sandge', 'vadios','saal-papdis' , before the angry Sun comes to scorch the skins! The entire fanfare lasts for a week and it is a time of instant intense bonding and connect. Believe me when I say that all the misgivings of the past year that we have miraculously dry up in the heat of gupshup which is why I look forward to this time each year. I have treasured this tradition handed down from one generation to the next and I hope this very Indian tradition is not lost to easiness of store bought summer goodies!

I truly adore and love your videos because they are simple and easy. The summer traditions of my house as a child I observed was my amma cleaning up the entire house. Painting the supdis, drying tamarind, red chillies, making different papads, pickles, drying vegetables like karela, gawaar phali, Bhavnagar I mirchis were soaked in curds , hing, coriander powder. In general the house was readied for rains by bringing out rainy wear, umbrellas. Kitchen was completely aromatic with all kinds of masalas and pickles. Also she made yummy vadu mango pickle and vadams

Aam Panna , Chach, and Bel Ka sharbat, Sattu drink , rice water with Sattu.. less fried more watery food in diet.. what not.. slightest memory of desert cooler khus... And long day where we wait for afternoon ice-cream wala..it was an event preparing ice-cream and mango shake at home.. now as days it's quite easy to make....twice we use to take bath in a day.. and that earth pot drinking water.. was the coldest one... Lastly in open terrace we used to sleep under the sky watching stars... talking to grandparents 😀 now as don't find such thing as everything is easily accessible. Earlier it was all like family event. One more thing which I remember is watering the terrace and plants in evening for preparing it night.

I hv used this summertime to clear my cupboard n remove all the old bedsheets and made a DIY mat or a thick chaddar to lay on floor n sleep under the fan instead of using heavy mattress . Spreading this thick man with a soft bedsheet on the upperside gives a very soft n soothing feeling and can be placed anywhere n can be easily foldable n carryable. Just love this DIY mat
