Putting your flour through a sifter will break up any lumps in the flour, which means you can get a more accurate measurement. Sifted flour is also much lighter and airier than unsifted flour and is easier to mix into other ingredients when making batters and doughs. Buttermilk is an acidic ingredient, which helps break down the gluten in your baking and created a more tender cake. Also as a flavor bonus, the slight tang of buttermilk compliments the overall sweetness in your cake batter, making a more balanced cake. Love your videos, God bless!!

The way you guys treat your animals says a lot about you. A lot of good things. That kindness is real and can’t be faked. Farming can be hard as you deal with your livestock. It’s good to see you loving on the kids, the animals and the “old farmer”. I say that with affection as I’m 68 and so enjoy those “old farmers” I meet all across my native NC. My granddaddy was one of them. May God bless you and yours.

My buddy convinced me to take the commercial applicator test. Learned a lot more than the private covered. Not sure I'll use it all but I learned it! Someday, when you're gone (no rush), your kids are going to remember your great laugh and the fun times doing things like baking cakes. German chocolate is my favorite but my mom was not a baker so a friend of hers always baked my birthday cake.

Awww happy birthday Wes!! ❤ Can’t believe he is 15! Both of your “babies” are sure growing up fast. I’ve been watching a long time and happy to celebrate another birthday with the Bernard family. I have some of my Great- Grandma’s recipes in her handwriting and they are a treasure for sure. I took pictures of all of them in case anything ever happens to my box, I’ll still have them.

I had. German Chocolate cake for my birthday and we just finished it up tonite...love it.
I love finding the old recipes of my mammaws..like her most things are in my head but occasionally she did have written recipes..one is for a sugar cookie made with candied fruit.

Cake flour is a finer grind than regular flour. Sifting aerates the flour, fluffing it up, to prevent clumping.

Hello there happy farmers. We used to get given German Chocolate when we were kids. It's really good Chocolate and there are a lot of different sorts. If you mesere all the ingredients for the cake you can't go wrong. My mum was a confectioner by trade. She made exquisitely beautiful cakes.
ummm LB was right---Pee Cans are to be kept under the bed--lol I'm dying here---Chinese cat mad in America! hahahha Happy Birthday again Wesley!! I wish the same thing LB!! My pan cabinet is just like yours and YES, I have to get down on the floor with a flashlight to find my cake pans too. The Crisco and flour are the go to for a cake not sticking.
Yeah I need to stick to the tried and true crisco and flour.

Loved this video. Been watching for a little over a year but have watched all of your content. This video was almost all behind the scenes (of farming). A great insight.
My grandfather was a cattle farmer in Sequatchie Valley, TN (Powell's Crossroads). He raised beef castle. I guess that's what draws me to your channel. Growing up farming with my grandfather is a life experience not many get to experience. Although watching you guys haul square bale hay triggered a little PTSD😝. We grew fern and spring rye and orange groves we used pesticides had have license to use and purchase we owned the coop and most growers had have license to order
