Nice headphones. I used to have original Sony MDR-V6 back in the early '90s, they used to be made in Japan. They sounded excellent, very crisp, and only as much bass as necessary. I find the new reissued ones (made in Thailand) way too heavy on the bass. Anyway, that's my observation. Anyway, fantastic setup. I have KX88 as well. It's an amazing machine, with great keyboard feel and in depth SysEx programming to control external devices. I really like Yamaha FM products, as well as the Roland D-series products. Great playing in the video.
Hi. Thanks for your comment. You watched this viideo very carefully! Yes, I often used MDR-V6 for my perfprmance monitoring. ( I'm using MDR-7510 on these days.) I also think this one "V6" brings me very crisp sound as you mentioned. I was surprised you know the history of V6 very well. And I was interested in your opinion about defference of several V6 models. I'm using the V6 made inThailand. It means it manufactured recently. As you kow, headphone's acoustic specification is not stable permenently. I think the diferrence between made in Japan and Thailnad comes from deterioration of the parts which has acoustic function. (The parts are earpads, acoustic filters and drivers.) This inclination often causes the bass sound reduction. It's my opinion and for your refernce. Any way, I love YAMAHA products very very well. I've ever been to YAMAHA HQ's facroy at HAMAMATU in Japan over 25-years ago as a internship student and stayed there for a month. At those days YAMAHA DX series had became very famous synthesizer in the world. KX76 was on the way to start it's mass production at that time. As a result, I didn't choose the working at YAMAHA corp because of remote place from my home. I'm still living in Tokyo. HAMAMATSU is very far from Tokyo. It's difficult to comute ordinately. Need moving. But I didn't wannna do it. Oh, sorry for long comment. I'll keep up up my self and continue to upload the Casiopea's sounds of old decades . Thanks..
***** Oh, Hamamatsu, I think that's where Hiromi is from. Anyway, about the MDR-V6, I was so thrilled to see them again in stores, because these were THE headphones I grew up on listening to music. It's says on the "for Digital", which obviously nowadays is meaningless, because practically everything is digital today. Having said that, it's always nice to see the recent resurgence of vinyl records and analog synthesizers. But in the '80s, anything designed "for Digital" was the main selling point. I believe that MDR-V6 were more of a consumer headphones, where MDR-7506 had more flatter response for monitoring in studios (hence the "Professional" moniker written on them). Although I think both of them have Studio Monitor written on them. Anyway, once again, I find the Thailand made versions of both the V6 as well as 7506 far heavier on the bass side, compared to their original versions, made in Japan. Sadly, the V6 were discontinued again. 7506 are still highly regarded in music stores (and even by audiophile magazines, which is surprising, given relative lost cost of these headphones). I recently got Sennheisers HD280, and I was shocked how muffled they sounded at first, compared to the Sony headphones. But after a day or two, my ears got used to the Sennheisers. So, I guess, the perception of the quality of sound can be subjective, dependent on age (I am sure I had better ears when I had the original V6), and what your ears are currently used to. I find these phenomena of psychoacoustic interesting. Now, don't get me started on the Yamaha NS-10M's topic, because I could go on forever on that... :)
Pretty funny to look at it now, but this video being 11 years old, I think he was just using it to listen to the song. PSPs remained popular in Japan for a while
Garrett simms-rowe About Mukaiya's ROM I'm using. It's commercial goods and very old one which was sold about 25years ago. I bought it via Japanese auction site. And it's a littile bit difficult for you to get it from sharing data on web site. I'm not sure you may buy it from small sound house shops selling music instruments on web site. For your reference (Please refer to below) bobbyblues.recup.ch/yamaha_dx7/dx7_soundbanks.html#AViC This web site may helps you.
