So picked up a trad bow for the first time this winter. I'm 50yrs old and have killed hundreds of animals with my compound. I wasn't shooting my bow anymore for fun I was only shooting to make sure sights were on. I've killed 90% of the animals I've shot with a compound inside of 20 yds. This led me to change my whole archery life at 50. Being in the same place you are by the looks in your trad adventure I would just tell you to be open to everything!!!! Try everything!!!!! I have the same bow you do and it shoots great especially for the $$$. 1st I shot the package arrows which suck just to get my shot process, anchor, split finger, 3 under, string walking, fixed crawl figured out. Found what is most comfortable for me and could get arrows to hit very consistently. Next I got new arrows and got them tuned to my bow but that takes being consistent so don't jump to that until you can be consistent. I live in an area of the country without a big trad community and really none of the bow shops within 3-4hrs carry or do much if any with trad bows so RUclips has become my Best Friend. Guys are really good about answering your questions and you can rewatch videos over and over to try and replicate what they are doing. Jeff Phillips, Jason Samkoviac(spelling?), Kramer Ammons and The Push guys have some great videos for different tech's. I shoot just about everyday and try to get 50-100 arrows in. For the last two months I've been traveling to 3D shots all over the place and have managed to get it so I don't miss in a 30 target course and on a good day I can shoot 230-260 scores. I have since switched to an ILF setup but still shoot my Royal X8 too. The extra weight of the ILF is easier for me to be rock solid at full draw. I shoot a fixed crawl with my point on being 20yds. This allows me to hold top of 3D deer target (5in high) for 25-28yrd shot and I hold bottom of chest on same target for 12-15yd shot (4in low) to hit center of bullseye. Again try everything until you find whats most comfortable, works best and just keep shooting." Aim Small Miss Small", "Be consistent even if its bad form if its totally repeatable it can be worked on", "Don't get discouraged", "Manage your expectations this isn't a compound your shooting", "Ask questions of anyone who may have knowledge and is willing to share" and most all HAVE FUN!!!!!! @@pathfinder5804 thanks for the advice brotha ! It sounds like you have a pretty good grasp on things ! I’m getting there haha , I shot recurve when I was a kid but never had anyone teach me . We had fluflu arrows with 44 mag brass on the end to hunt rabbits and often times you missed the same rabbit and chased it around the whole property 🤣 sometimes you got it but most the time the rabbit was unscathed! But I got older and my interest shifted away from hunting and more to hanging out with friends and being a kid until I started being able to hunt on my own 12-13 then I got into compound bows and self taught myself because my pops never bow hunted only rifle . I’ve been a compound bow guy since then and have probably killed 20+ deer in the last 16 years with my bow probably closer to 30 . But two years ago I bought a pse nighthawk take down and got pretty good with that and for whatever reason I stopped shooting and fell off . Then I picked up a black hunter longbow and got it set up and shot a bunch and got consistent then stopped shooting again…. Now I picked up this x8 and it’s so fun to shoot I’ve been really trying to go hard with shooting after work ! Might start trying to make my own strings as well
@@danielruprecht8932 sure is and it’s awesome ! Only thing I noticed is the sanlida bows draw a little heavier than what they say by a couple pounds so if you buy a 35 it’ll be like a 38lb at 28” and if you have a longer draw length like me (29.5) you’ll be drawing around 40 with a 35 lb bow
@@doitforfunoutdoors2997 takedowns are great because you can graduate to higher draw weight. The longbow took some getting used to and my 50# has considerable handshock but not a deal breaker. Best of all either one is only a hundred bucks on Amazon 😎
Tom Clum or Rogue Archery for instruction information. Other that that put time in and the more you shoot the more you’ll figure out what works best for you. God Bless 🙏😇❤️🇺🇸

I've found that string walking works best with longer bows. Looks like your doing fine👍🎯❤️🇺🇸 ps , is that the royal x8 and do you like it?

@@doitforfunoutdoors2997 I'm at 26.5 so a little heavy is good. I got the x8 longbow and the dragon x8 compound. Both fine bows.
@@danielruprecht8932 I want to get the longbow or the royal x9? 58” take down
