Shadowsight confuses me (Warrior Cats)

- We need to see more Shadowsight in the next Warrior Cats book. His story doesn't feel complete yet.

Starclan has been punishing cats harshly for the most awkward stuff. Leaf and Squilf almost got punished for events starclan had a paw in, Snowtuft died and they couldnt even whisper a few honorable words for him, Juniperclaw was simply told that its too late to feel sorry when he's already died, despite dying because he was trying to make up for his wrong AND he helped saved everyone's existence. I dont even wanna know what they told poor Frecklewish1 when she suffered agonizing days while snake poison ate out her nerves.

I think with Shadowsight, what they're saying is even if you have faith, you aren't necessarily special. They actually did bring conclusion to Shadowsight's prophecy when he was a kit-he would look into the shadows. And that's what he did. He looked into the Dark Forest WAY more than he ever convened with StarClan. When Ashfur died, he took Shadowsight's connection with him, because he was the only cat Shadow connected with. And I think he is indeed going to have a prominent role in Frostpaw's story, because I do disagree with you on your assessment of her. I think she is going to be very fascinating. With lines like "Um ACTUALLY, convening with StarClan IS the most important task of a Medicine Cat." and "I'll be the Medicine Cat RiverClan NEEDS." there's going to be HUGE contention between Frostpaw and Mothwing. I think Shadowsight could be the cat to mend things with them, as he is a cat who has faith but can't connect with StarClan. He can teach Frostpaw a lesson in humility that Mothwing won't be able to due to her own pride that often gets in her way.

I just wish Shadowsight kept having seizures visions or no visions. I’m epileptic and I felt really happy to have that representation in a book series I like so much. It was especially relatable when a seizure interrupted him playing with his siblings because seizures are inconvenient (to say the least).
Shadowsight is awesome. He's the only character I actually find myself relating with. In my opinion, he deserves to lead every clan and own the world.

Ikr. Shadowsight is such a great character. I quite like Rootspring too and these Broken Code protagonists deserve to be developed more throughout the next arc too! Their stories aren't fully over!

@@Galaxy-_-Airy It's a good series! It's a teeny bit ablistic, and it queerbaits a bit, but for the most part, it's a worthy investment of your time.
If we’re talking about character arcs, I thought it was about him learning to be content with who he was - learning he has value regardless of what he can bring to the clans. I have a tumblr post on this where I went more in depth, but here is a summary.
He grew up believing he was special and wanted to be a great medicine cat. When he receives special visions from ‘StarClan’ he feels special. In TST, Shadowpaw receives a lot of love from his clan. But when they realize his visions were false, he starts to lose that feeling of belonging he had.
He spends the rest of the arc trying to redeem himself for what he has enough against the clans because of how invaluable he feels. He feels like he needs to prove his worth/place and is constantly putting himself in danger. It’s when he finally talks to Juniperclaw and Leafpool does he realize he is content with himself - that he doesn’t need to prove himself to have value.
So I feel like he kinda has a “gifted kid” arc where he realizes he doesn’t need his powers/a connection to StarClan to be a good medicine cat. He doesn’t need to exceptional. He content just being a cat.
Poor Shadowsight deserves better. I hope he plays a good role in Sunbeam’s POV in A Starless Clan arc
Starclan connection lore is so messy, I'm not sure it's even fixable. The only way it works is if *most* cats in the clans have a connection to Starclan, but medicine cats are the only ones to foster it. The LACK of connection to Starclan must be the exception, not the rule. Otherwise, none of the forced medicine cats like Puddleshine, Cinderpelt, ext make any sense.
I think that actually makes sense since leaders and regular warriors can have dreams from starclan.
I think it is starclan who chooses who they connect with. They just wanna be a jerk to shadowsight
@@Annadog40 when looking at the books, we hear that ashfur took whatever connection shadowsight had to starclan with him when he died. that is the hole in shadowsight. the missing piece. shadowsight PHYSICALY can't connect with starclan. the worst part is this may make it impossible for him to get to starclan the normal way. he may need to go through the dark forest to reach the hole when he dies.

Overall, I think shadowsight is still a great character. He was one of my favorites in the most recent arc.

Personally what I like to see happen is for Shadowsight to get a super eddition where we get better explanation of his powers because I could see it where he starts to have visions of a cat with no sight so he goes to the cat he knows doesn't have sight and its Jayfeather. This continues periodically throughout the book and everytime he goes to Jayfeather, Jayfeather starts to act more like he did during the "Power of-the Stars" arcs and by the midway point, Jayfeather connects the dots and Rock returns. Jayfeather could possibly reconnect to his dreamwalker abilities for a bit due to Shadowsight's investigation. And of course, it becomes a traveling book to visit the tribe, possibly roping in one of the main protagonists along with other characters from both Shadow and Thunderclan. Jayfeather is able to dreamwalk again but with Shadowsight there it alters things. Shaodwsight and Jayfeather is brought to a time before the Ancient tribe, to the time of Rock and his tribe, but Rock is a younger cat and Shadowsight is his predecessor simply known as "Shadow" and Jayfeather could be just a ghost cat not doing much just guiding Shadowsight in what is happening. Rock could by the end of the story, present himself and say something along the lines of, "As long as your clans believe in Starclan, you will be besiegd by darkness, so you need shadow to guide your way into the light." And it could imply when in times of need a cat similar to Shadowsight could appear whenever a threat like the Dark Forest arises again but not in the same way as in Omen of the Stars.
The tribe does not need to return again we already have had more then enough with the tribe cats their boring and super forgettable don't know why they keep forcing the tribe down our throats
@@sweetwolfsteve5583 personally I prefer their stories to most of the stories Skyckan has, and they werr the best oart of The New Prophecy and kept the best protagonist from TNP
I genuinely think Shadowsight will appear a lot in this arc. They made it a point for Mothwing to draw attention to how ‘weird’ he is, and I think this will draw Frostpaw towards him. I think those two might work together
The reason Shadowsight was one of my favorite characters was he stood for what he thought was right, and his relationship with his parents was just.. beautiful.
“What is his purpose” is so on point. It’s sort of sad this this is a legit question. Bristlefrost was the Thunderclan perspective and Rootspring obviously has the ghost powers(despite being the most lacking character by far). The only real thing he does is add another perspective to the dark forest but it doesn’t matter cause it’s all just rotting trees and black lakes. He also saves Rootspring from the dark forest cats, but he didn’t have to be a main character to do that and that could’ve easily been from Rootspring’s perspective. Plus the boatload of dark forest shenanigans also beg the same question “what is the purpose”. It was way to drawn out and that scene didn’t even need to exist. It would’ve been better if they just took his chapters and split it with the other two. Give Bris more interesting stuff to do and actually give Rootspring a character
Not really, there was a lot that was purely unique to his character, like his connection to Ashfur. I do think they watered down his overall importance in the last two books however. The first four he is pretty essential. I feel like this can be said for Bristlefrost too. She didn’t do anything valuable in Darkness Within and TPONS. I think the Erins just have bad pacing. Any character could be rewritten to not have a POV.
Regardless, I actually do think Shadowsight would be more interesting without one. He has always been a mysterious character but giving him a POV takes away from that mystery.

In the prologue of Lost Stars a "mystery StarClan cat" said "Shadowpaw, your name will be remembered for as long as the clans exist." or something like that. From what he did in the Broken Code though it doesn't really seem like he'd be that remembered, Bristlefrost probably would be more remembered than he would be...Maybe he does have more of a role in A Starless Clan that will live up to what the mystery StarClan cat said.
I'm pretty sure that mystery starclan cat was ashfur thinking he'd win. If ashfur succeeded in his plans shadowsight would've gone down in history as the cat who saved bramblestar and helped him crack down on codebreakers.

This has GOT to be my favorite arc so far! I just loved it so much, with how much Squilf was involved, the characters, and the sudden drama. Great video!
My favorite character is Twigbranch and I was furious when I figured out she was now a side character when I started reading Lost Stars. Seriously, she was one of the most important cats in Vison of Shadows! She deserved to be a main character again!
Yeah I loved the Twig Brantch problems about if she wanted kits or not but wish I could remember what they decided and then wonder if the books will just go, "yeah she's already getting the kits ready for apprentice ceremony" not too far into the book.
I thought he was included in Frostpaws part of the teaser? Wasn’t it commented on by Mothwing as well as herself about how he cannot connect to Starclan and how the other medicine cats are kind of uncomfortable around him?

I read the book as in the end his connection was with something other than starclan, but still bigger than ashfur.

It's kind of weird because in the last book Shadowsight could feel where Starclan was when he was with Willowshine. It took him a moment, but he definitely felt it. I found it so weird that they had that in the beginning of the book and then told him he wasn't chosen by Star Clan to be a medicine cat

I would have preferred Shadowsight going down with Ashfur at the end of the BC vs Bristlefrost, one of my biggest beefs with the finale.
problem was he was literally the punching bag the entire arc. him going down with ashfur would send a horrible message to readers since among the 3, he's the one taking most of the hits while rootspring and bristlefrost were going to live great lives after. Besides, at this time, many cats already didn't like him so what would that bring to them when he's gone? Halfhearted grieving except for his family members?

I agree with a lot of ppl here that his arc was that he didn't need Starclan. But I still think Akira was right to point the convoluted logic of Starclan. Ever since they gave Tigerstar nine lives I've hated them. They don't make sense in many aspects like when they told Cinderpelt she wasn't meant to go down that path and then basically cockblocking her from messages when they had Leafpaw, the only message they have her was about her death. Maybe Shadowsight's arc makes sense for it to end with no connection to Starclan but it doesn't answer why couldn't they give him a connection. Is he not worthy? I feel like he's earned it. There is absolutely nothing stopping them from giving him dreams and visions. So what makes him different then Leafpool or Frostpaw. Why do some cats get them? It has nothing to do with worth or faith so what is it?! I need an answer!
I thought it was pretty clear starclan is biased. Cats who don't have a connection to starclan don't have one because starclan just doesn't like them.
@@Corpse701 That is rather clear but the authors seem to always push the other direction. Starclan is bias they are awful in their bias but for some reason every cat is okay with this. Or if they aren't they are seen as the ones in the wrong and must just accept how things are. It makes me wonder why the clan cats care at all if their medicine cats can talk to Starclan as they've made it clear they will send a dream to a cat whether in that clan or not to help them. Leafpool was sent dreams all the time to help Riverclan because it's in Starclan' s best intrest to keep all clans alive. They afterall depend on these cats to exist. It just doesn't make sense that Shadowsight would simply accept Starclan, the clan he helped save now hate him and want no connection with him. They didn't explain it as they hate him simply that he never had a connection but everyone can have one so why isn't a single cat questioning who or why. I know tend to be a bit daft to these subjects but it is too many series counting to bit bring this issue to the table. Think about it...All the books and series and we only JUST got a lesson and confirmation (not just brushed away like Jayfeather always did) that Starclan can be wrong.
I am a year late, but I would like to draw your attention to what Leafpool says to Shadowsight in 'A Light in The Mist'. This is the quote: "Your connection was with shadow, not light. And when Ashfur disappeared, he took that connection with him."
From this we can conclude that Shadowsight had a connection with the Dark Forest that could potentially have negated any connection to StarClan, and also that Ashfur took away this connection when he died. It is highly likely that Shadowsight is now physically unable to connect to anything at all.
...This isn't to say that StarClan isn't messed up and weird, but I think in this one instance it isn't their fault.
@@wyawarD9677 to me that always said he just never had a connection at all. Plus it's not been established they can't give him a connection just like with Cinderpelt where the only connection they gave her was a prediction of her death. The least they could do is make up for their terrible mistake for letting Ashfur into Starclan. Instead we have yet another cat following Starclan' s code and helping their clan only to be abused by them. It makes Shadowsight effectively useless because we know the cats have little value for medicine cats with weak or no Starclan connections. I'm nearly 100% sure hey could if they really wanted to give him a connection but in truth I think they're a bit sadistic and like to see cats misreable, just look at Goosefeather or even Leafpool herself.
I agree, I definitely think shadowsight will definitely have a prominent role in a starless clan, hopefully in frostpaw’s story arc. His role in the broken code was really left unfinished questions.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: I feel like they totally botched the Broken Code in the last book. If there is any way to recover from this, I think they should call out starclan for their double standards. Shadowsight and Rootspring both got over their grief super fast, but could you imagine if they didn't?
Shadowsight and Rootspring were harshly screwed by starclan. So I think they deserve a villain arch, but it's more of a 'down with starclan' rebellion type thing.

I think that Ashfur meant to trick Shadowsight into believing it was StarClan giving him dreams, and seizures so that he listens when he gives Shadowsight the visons about saving Bramblestar and the "Codebreakers" and all that jazz.
