I just want to gush for a minute about how much I adore and appreciate you and your content. I love that your children are never shown or exploited. You and Chris are adorable and you really set a fantastic bar for parents/couples on the internet. Thanks for not being weird.
Re: the burlap and barrel spices…I work with the people who mill and package these and let me tell you, the entire building smells AMAZING when they are milling these! Always a fantastic day at work, especially when they’re doing the kitchen pepper blend! Yummm!
To me, the point of using a paper towel is actually that it’s disposable… so I use it to clean messes that I just don’t want to deal with. Like wiping pee off the floor, etc. so having a reusable paper towel that you have to clean just doesn’t make sense. Then just use a rag., or a cloth?
Same. I keep paper towels for gross things. Otherwise, I have dozens of blue car detailing microfiber cloths I’ve had for two decades. Some of them were even previously used as cloth diaper liners for my now-adult children!
My mom actually cuts up old clothes that are just damaged or clothes my sister and I have grown out of, or damaged bedding sheets and uses them as disposable rags. This is stuff that can’t be donated due to damage and stains btw
If those supposedly environmentally cloths really are not compostable then they are purely greenwashing. 100% cotton works fine, washes well, and is compostable !
Fats or oils in your compost will attract rodents! Also, slows the breakdown of waste. Not sure what chemicals are in that fat-solidifying product. I would avoid putting in compost, which might eventually make it into your garden and your food. Solidifying grease makes it easier to dispose of in the trash, though! Oats will also solidify the grease - and birds love the mixture.
Yeah, I was like “please don’t compost that much oil. It will cause the surrounding food to rot and not compost plus attract all kinds of unwanted guests.”
Asafoetida is called hiing in India and a garlicky-smelling spice that is often put into lentil and chickpea dishes. Helps against bloating as well. In German it's also called "Stinkwurz" = stinking root, but that's mean. Its smell is potent and garlicky, but I don't think it stinks.
its so interesting how different countries feel about hanging things to dry vs using a drier. In new Zealand using a drier is a special thing that is only really done when its wet out and even then most house holds dont have one. it is very common for people to just hang things out to dry
Same, as an Aussie we use a clothes line rather than the dryer. The heat from the sun dies your clothes, has antibacterial properties and doesn't cost money.
I'm from Newfoundland, Canada and we use a line when the weather is nice. I grew up with mostly line dried clothes but long winters do make it hard to use it all year. I love sheets especially on the line. The sun can fade clothes so some things I hand on a rack inside.
I keep trying to figure it out... is it the aftermath of covid? If the's the case I can totally relate 3 years later. Either way my heart goes out to Chris!
I love Penzeys for spices! As for the paper towel replacement, a better option are UNpaper towels by Marley’s Monsters if you want a purchasable option. You can also make your own with cotton flannel fabric in any print you like, cut to about 10”x12” (prewash and dry before cutting), and sew a zigzag stitch along the edges. Reusable, dryer safe, and they can be rolled onto an old paper towel roll!
For the turkey carving, my dad always does the carving, and the electric carver we use has smaller (skinnier) blades, so you can get into the tighter spaces easier than the one featured in this video
I think the cereal you are thinking of for the round corn balls is Kix. As a kid, I really enjoyed it because it had less sugar compared to the other kid cereals. Berry Kix was my favorite, great for snacking without milk. 😋
@@sarahsinton2279 True, I forgot about that one. Kix is smaller compared to Corn Pops and the popcorn Rachel displayed was small, so that was the first thing that came to mind. 🙂
Have you ever been to the ENT doctor to make sure that you don't have something wrong with your nose? You can have a deviated septum which would interfere with your sense of smell
I don't know about Canada, but in Germany you actually shouldn't throw the compostable bags in the compost. They're only compostable in theory. In reality, the bags don't meet the requirements - they don't disintegrate in the same time as the rest of the compost under the conditions prevailing in a composting facility. Also, oils do not go into the compost at all.
i have " reusuable paper towels " there's a set i bought many a year ago that snap on the corners and you roll around a central tube that can slide onto a normal paper towel dispenser. They are machine washable and dryable but the snaps do clink in the dryer like a button on a pair of pants would so i would just keep that in mind. i have two sets that i swap back and forth. I have not bought paper towels in like ... 3 or 4 years. They are so old the branding has long worn off the center tube. That being said they have MANY different kinds on Amazon. 👍
Pipcorn uses "upcycled" grain (it says right on their package). Which in theory is fine, but if you're looking for pure, high quality heirloom corn products, I would use something else.
I was thinking it might have been Canadian Corn Pops actually, our version is different from the USA Corn Pops as they are spherical and smaller, a lot crunchier too.
I bought a few rolls of bamboo paper towels a few years ago and quickly realised that they aren't paper towel replacements, they are just cloths on a roll. But they are fine for that. I still use paper towel for anything really icky that I don't want to rinse off but I use these for everything else. I usually just rinse them under kitchen tap for a couple of uses then just wash with a load of towels. I line dry them... but I line dry everything. They are really nice to use when new, they look ok once washed maybe 2 times then after that they are still useful but don't look very pretty, so then they just get used as cleaning rags. I cut a corner or 2 off just so I know not to put them back in the kitchen. I'll keep using them until they are gone but I don't think I'd buy them again.

the oil solidifier flake things have been available for years and yes, I use it regularly. I'm not picky about the brand, I've used western and Asian brands.
The cereal I think you were trying to remember are KIX cereal. I used to love that stuff. Not too sweet. Also funny enough I was elected the turkey carver at my in laws because I watched how to break down the bird on food network. I use an electric knife but the one you showed would be too bulky, like Christoper I need more room to maneuver.
I used similar bamboo cloths when using cloth nappies, which means I was washing them at 60C and putting them in the drier. They held up great and long after the kids were potty trained I’ve still been using them in the kitchen for cleaning up spills. It took a while to get out of the ‘paper towels are for gross stuff to throw away’ mindset, but now every time I use kitchen paper I feel like I’m throwing money in the bin 😂. I keep a washing basket for them, towels, mop heads, and other stuff I wouldn’t want in with my clothes.
My sister has this apple tree in her yard that nobody can figure out what the variety is and its hundreds of years old. On her property they used to have an apple orchard and then they cut all the trees down except for one or two I can't remember but I have never in my life tasted an apple like that! It's almost like a hybrid between a granny smith and a McIntyre but extremely juicy and extremely long-lasting! They are incredible and they only come out every other year.
So when you can really smell spices or really anything like lemons or oranges grapefruit you’re smelling the volatile oil unfortunately because there’s more volatile oils in the burlap and barrel spice blend, they’re gonna burn more rapidly you’re seeing the caramelization of the spices a lot faster so if you want to maintain the spice without getting that caramelization you might have to put it on under the skin
I didn't see the full review of the last product. But just by the gist of it I've seen bamboo paper towels sold by Flying tiger a few years ago. Also we have a brand over here in Italy that makes cellulose paper towels that are near indestructible. They can be washed and dried. I used to use one when I'd do my makeup to remove moisture from my makeup sponge. Because it stained my bathrobe in foundation. But the paper towel not only absorbed the water and stain better, but I could set it on my radiator to dry fairly fast. I don't think this is a revolutionary product. Plus why do you need a reusable paper towel when cloth towels exist for the exact same thing? Apart from removing stains or dirt these aren't really necessary.
I use a Japanese product that is very similar to the coagulate oil product you tested. I'm sort of shocked about it being on shark tank. The one I use is a power, but it's been around for decades.
I haven't bought or will buy any of these....but the cereal mention makes me think KIX, which reminds me that I'm an adult and I'm allowed to buy that cereal now. I've never had it in my life (frugal parents who didn't believe in name brand cereals), but as a kid I was always super jealous of the kids in the commercials who got to eat it. Mentioning that cereal gave me that covetous flashback, and now I'm going to go buy some.
I’ve seen the Pipcorn available in my Imperfect Foods/Misfits Market options. Now I want to try it. As for the spices, I buy Penzeys, another high quality spice company. The bonus is that they have two brick and mortar stores in the cities where I live (one in each twin city), so I can go in and get what I need.
Love the part where you're like 'now bite it' and Christopher is still sniffing the apple piece. As cool as the Mighty Carver looks is it really necessary? I wouldn't want that anywhere near my children- hoping it does have a child lock feature-. I love how honest you always are with your reviews. Would love to see you go back through some products after reading comment reviews on the items for a better experience.
The chainsaw carver looked fun! Thanks for the Pipcorn review. I'm finally going to try it out. The bamboo towel things seemed like a poorly executed gimmick. I'd rather throw a basket of dish cloths in the kitchen - which is exactly what I've done. I get white so I can bleach it as needed.
I always have trouble with the reusable paper towels; those are what I need to use for things I _need_ to throw away, like raw meat juice, pet messes...
I've bought the truffle pipcorn before not knowing what the company's origins were. It was very good! (Also, was the cereal you were looking for Kix?).
Paper towels I use for things I just want to toss out like cat puke, or stuff that can't be cleaned off like caulking, (doing a bathroom right now) and face/hands/messes during holiday dinner and spills that I don't really want to stain cloths with. I try to limit it but always have them on hand. For me, do not use in dryer = use in dryer on air dry/no heat lol
For the used frying oil, you can check if your area has any of those places that converts used frying oil to biofuel. You can probably just collect it somewhere animals won't get to it and maybe drop it off to them or have it picked up when you've filled a/several container/s.
I wanted the Swiffer reusable thingies but I think it's not for me now I've seen it . I hope the popcorn come to Europe and I'm already searching for the frying oil thing. Thanx for showing and the fun videos every week .
those reusable paper towels are the perfect example of how sustainability isn’t always convenient. plus i think paper towels being disposable is half the allure
I’ve been watching you for so long. My partners name is Christopher as well, and I’ve just realised I say/call him the same way as you. It’s endearing and exaggerated and just perfect for Christopher’s
Many many decades from now, Rachel's grandchildren will be reminiscing fondly about watching Nana use the chainsaw on the turkey every year. Until, presumably, she died using said chainsaw because I'm not sure this is safe for elderly folks.
where I live we recicle the oil separately from anything else, keeping it liquid is more desirable. I don’t see why I would want to solidify it anyway… which is the advantage?
Specialty cinnamon is amazing on snickerdoodles. I use microfiber cloths on my Swiffer. Easy peasy The fat hardener stuff is great to keep fat out of your pipes, but animal fats would need to go in the trash as they can’t be composted.
What’s the difference in the oil solidifier and soy wax flakes that you use for candles? Do you think the soy flakes would do the same thing? (If the wax flakes are cheaper)
I’m super into using more sustainable reusable things when I can and when they work just as well if not better than the disposables, my husbands mom got me those reusable paper towels to use to clean up my pets messes and that was NOT a good paper towel replacement. I was not trying to put the towels I used to clean my ferrets litter boxes and cage in the washer. That would be too disgusting. What I did use them for was to clean my counters and mirrors.
I completely agree. We produce very little garbage but you are never going to convince me to clean up cat yak and then put the towel in the laundry😂 There are some times when you have to give yourself a break and do what's convenient and comfortable for you.
Those bamboo towels are not absorbent at all. They remind me of the Sham Wow towels, they were linty and just awful. I'll stick with good old paper towels. The oil absorber thing is ok, but you can just pour the hot oil into a can, when the can gets full, throw it away.
The rolls of fake paper towels are not worth it. I buy compostable paper towels. Those ones are just another mess and I'd just forget and accidentally toss them into the trash.
I just want to gush for a minute about how much I adore and appreciate you and your content. I love that your children are never shown or exploited. You and Chris are adorable and you really set a fantastic bar for parents/couples on the internet. Thanks for not being weird.

yeah fr it’s textbook greenwashing. they’re calling them sustainable to get ppl to buy them but they’re essentially just overpriced low quality cloths

16:57 i think you're referring to kix cereal😂😊
I would just use a Swedish dish cloth instead of those reusable things, those spices sound amazing, tyfs😀
I feel like the seasonings could make a great gift!!
Spices come in bags in Canada? They come in jars in the US (mostly)
Hamilton Beach electric carving knife. Works great and not as bulky.
Specialty cinnamon is amazing on snickerdoodles.
I use microfiber cloths on my Swiffer. Easy peasy
The fat hardener stuff is great to keep fat out of your pipes, but animal fats would need to go in the trash as they can’t be composted.
What’s the difference in the oil solidifier and soy wax flakes that you use for candles? Do you think the soy flakes would do the same thing? (If the wax flakes are cheaper)
hey Rach! Even solid oil isn’t usually accepted by municipal compost programs.
it’s a weird one
My favorite face!! Sending much love as always from New Zealand ❤❤❤
Those bamboo towels are not absorbent at all. They remind me of the Sham Wow towels, they were linty and just awful. I'll stick with good old paper towels.
The oil absorber thing is ok, but you can just pour the hot oil into a can, when the can gets full, throw it away.
I'd love to try the reusable swiffer one! Also shortening my swiffer right away!!! 😅 Great hack! Thanks
THE Rachel uses No Name bagged spices!?!? I’ve never felt more seen 😂❤
That oil solidifier has been around for decades in Asia. I buy a case every so often.
Mighty Carver gives me Evil Dead vibes 🤓
Kix is the cereal you're thinking of probably.
The rolls of fake paper towels are not worth it. I buy compostable paper towels. Those ones are just another mess and I'd just forget and accidentally toss them into the trash.
I need to know the product that made your face framing baby hairs to grow again. I looked through videos but couldn't find which one it was in. Help!
Does anyone else find the corn puff moment ADORABLE!😂😂
“There’s a cereal that looks like this..”
CORN POPS, rach. You mean Corn Pops 😂😂😂
Also the brand Kiks is the same color and shape.
There's a cereal in the U S. called Liz that looks identical to what you featured here😊
@@pameladazey6900 did you mistakenly write Liz as the name of a cereal? It's hard to believe that we have a cereal named after a person.
@@suzettefaircloth5037 I'm going to guess that she meant Kix, but put Liz by mistake.
@@suzettefaircloth5037 lol I meant Kix
