- Changing O rings on a Jandy 3 way valve
Today I found a Jandy Stealth variable speed pool pump, that seemed to be sucking a lot of air. I quickly found the source of the problem being the Jandy 3-way valve right in front of the pump.
So we opened up the valve and changed the two stem o-rings on the valve.
Once that was complete the pump no longer sucked air. Pretty simple job to do you can do it as well.

This happens a lot. Glad I could film it for you.
yes
Solid video, thanks. I visited Amazon for the o-ring kits on the Jandy valves... I'm also rebuilding my Hayward pump/impeller seals. Hopefully I'll eliminate the air entering my system. I replaced the large cartridge filter and that helped immensely with the filter pressure and pool flow but I was still seeing air get in... I suspect my old gray Jandy valve o-rings are worn, based on how neglected the filter cartridge looked. Learning as I go here in FL, retired from NY.
my pool has been sucking air and not priming. I replace the pump, the filter. and it was still sucking air... not one person told me about this.... when I went to the pool store they said... make sure you check the check values too. Thanks for the instructions. CROSSING fingers that is the problem... I don't want to pay 300-500 for someone to come tell me something simple
Damn bro forearms looking flash 💪
LOL thanks
If you have a Pentair valve - Pentair exploded diagram of their valve on their web site shows a small spacer that goes between the 2 small o-rings that go onto the shaft. I just did mine and sure enough, there is a spacer.
Ok
Im a pool technician for over 17 years.
Good video and very important, the only thing I see wrong is the reinstalling of the screws, you are supposed to screw them one across from the other so that the valve goes down evenly.
@@ELBENDC2 You're right. Good catch.
Does the Jandy have a plastic spacer between the shaft O-Rings like Pentair?
no
How did you determine that is what was wrong with this pool/system/plumbing?
A few ways one is the water leaking out on the top. You can see that in the video.
Nice job! Is it possible for a problematic 3-way valve to allow sucking air in one position, but work fine in another position? My system is having troubles holding a consistent pressure and there are lots of air bubbles from the jets, BUT ONLY when diverter valve is not in skimmer position.
Yes it's possible. It sounds like you have a problem somewhere in that line
@@AquanutAcademy ok. Thx. It looks easy to switch o-rings, so I’ll try that then re-evaluate. I’ll look at the line next if needed.
@@peteroverholt563 no problem. Link to the new O-rings are in the description
I have same problem on skimmer!...did that work for you?
I took the valve lid off and the screws stripped. Now they won't tighten. How do I fix that?
Unfortunately you have to replace the valve
For a quick fix I would fill holes with JB Weld or some other epoxy then re drill with a bit slightly smaller than the screws. It worth a shot before replacing a somewhat pricey valve.
@@adrianvaldez4465 If that line is under pressure then doing that run a risk of critical failure. There is no way I would run that risk with my family.
@@AquanutAcademy yeah 👍 point. Somethings are worth just fixing the right way.
Also thanks for video on o ring replacement took longer to drive to pool store than replace.
So helpful, I appreciate the time you took to make this for the novice DIYers such as myself!
If my cover is not marked, how do know the correct orientation to reinstall it correctly?
You have to play with it and see what way it needs to be turned
Great video. Replacing my o rings today.
Thanks. I hope it turned out well for you.
