The fact that Whitmire couldn't just pick up Kermit and waited a month to do ANYTHING with him and "get in soul with Jim" as Oz puts it, and worked under Jim and was chosen to replace him orginally, started off small and slowly settled into the role. Kinda makes me p*$$ed off that they just gave Kermit to Vogel who never even met Jim and whose only experience was puppeteering a Kermit imposter, and fired Whitmire because Disney made Kermit do things he didn't think Kermit would do. If you say Whitmire had an ego... SO DOES NEARLY EVERY ACTOR DISNEY HIRED FOR THE MARVEL MOVIES!
As a former cartoon animator, I stand firm with his view of a character staying as consistent as possible. In fact, the slight changes that make a single characters look like brothers or cousins in different scenes is a derogattory joke in our circle, telling one off about a lousy job done. In making the traditional animations like Tom & Jerry, there are hundreds of us drawing the same character. Thousands if one considers those that were before us and those that came after. Yet the viewer see and hear the same character, over and over throughout the years. That is what made their fans love them. To change the character is to kill it. And that was what Disney has been doing for many years now. Even the stories have change, not only the characters. A black mermaid, an arrogant lady hulk... their sins have gone up to the stars. RIP starwars... Disney is all about money now. They have forgotten to keep the dreams. I love Kermit and would only keep that for the old Kermit, when he still has a soul. ruclips.net/video/radDlebe3mU/видео.html
I was in the 9th grade at Berkmar High School in Lilburn, Georgia with Steve Whitmire. Even back then we all felt Steve should go to Jim Henson and try out. He was that good. I'm proud to have known Steve and wish only the best for him. Jim Henson's daughter is a fool and will come to know it's so. As far as what Disney and Jim's daughter says, I have one thing to say to this. They say he was tough to work with an apparently becoming egotistical. I don't believe this at all. Jim Henson would never have given the role of Kermit to someone who couldn't do it. He wouldn't give an egotistical jerk the role that is the face of the largest franchise of his company. This is why I wish Jim Henson company would have never sold the Muppets to Disney. Because Disney, even though they made two good movies, they made a bad move by trying to make the new Muppets purposely edgey and then fired the person that Jim himself hand-picked.
No, Steve definitely got egotistical. He once said something like "Do you know who i am? I'm Kermit the fucking frog. We either do it my way or there is no show." ... Providing Disney an the Henson company notes is one thing, bullying the staff and DEMANDING creative control is another
@@mesquitegirl2013 That’s what I don’t get. If he was so difficult to work with, why did they keep him for 27 years? Brian Henson said that he should’ve fired Whitmire before Disney even acquired The Muppets. Why didn’t he do it right then? None of this makes sense
Jim's daughter is obviously biased. In her eyes Steve was never going to be as good as her father at doing Kermit. So her recent comment is basically invalid and rather petty.
GingerGilligan No she's biased so she can't really have a rational opinion on the subject. I bet if your Dad played Kermit I think you wouldn't think anyone could be as good as him either!
I’m not so sure what Jim Henson would think of how Disney is using Kermit the frog these days. I feel like Disney didn’t study too much of Jim Henson’s work with the muppets.
Guys I don’t want to be rude I know that it’s not Matt’s fault and he is really trying but for me after Steve was fired and of course without Jim Kermit’s dead for me now 😢❤
I don’t want to hate too much on Matt Vogel. It’s not his fault. He’s actually getting better from what I’ve heard.
Yes Matt's a great guy.

Yeah, there are some Disney actors still working with the company with worse egos than Steve.
