I will be spending a lot of time just cloud surfing through scattered showers now that this update is here. It really took me out of the immersion when my jet would roll, and the clouds rolled with me lol. BTW I must complement you on your growth as a content creator, Mover. @CWLemoine I clicked on this and was GREATLT SURPRISED to see you flying a jet from my late father's last squadron. VFC-12 Fighting Omars (Callsign AMBUSH) will always have a place in my heart.
A lot of these sounds were ask by many because they add another layer of immersion and feedback. I have 2 Butt kicker units, one attaches to my seat the other clamps to my TM pedals. Flying the warbirds is really a treat and cranked really rattles you eyes. The "thump" of gear, landing , rolling, firing guns, bombs going off, afterburner etc all get turned into vibrations. Like VR, once you experience it flying without is missing something.
fyi Falcon 4.0 is still actively developed, by BMS. ruclips.net/video/IWpqpVZtGkk/видео.html Not to start a turf war.. the clouds and lighting/shadow effects of BMS are definitely one or two generations behind DCS, now. But otoh the runways actually *have* lighting and working PAPI. So, it's a mixed bag..
Just finished Executive Reaction audiobook. Cannot wait for the Brick by Brick audiobook. Might have to find time to just read it myself. I’m hooked. But I’m worried I’ll run into spoilers if I move onto the Alex Shepherd series...So glad you’re making audiobooks for those of us who have time to listen but not to sit and read.

For me, as a DCS «pilot» it is really interesting seeing you fly the F-16 and F-18 and I’d love to see more serious sorties where you talk about nerd stuff as briefings, departures, tactics (non classified) and your thoughts along the mission. Instrument stuff like this with tips, refueling etc. yes please! But, I also have seen most of your other stuff too and you are a go to now when I have some spare time. 👌🏻🙌🏻
That was the "rainy" sound I was referring to at 12:46. I had watched another pilot (he flies commercial airliners) use 2.7 and he said that that noise was what he hears when flying through rain.
I will caveat that it depends on how heavy the precip is. When we were struck by lightning, that's what it sounded like. I'm not sure small hail wasn't mixed in though.
I only play in VR and I swear the clouds, lighting and terrain have all been updated. Its incredible to drop out of the clouds in the frogfoot or the tucano and just lay down fire... what an awesome update!

Great vid Moover! Even though it is just DCS, and the cloud bases were 2-3 thousand feet, I still felt extremely uncomfortable when you did the spacial disorientation demo.
Damn, I started some months ago learning the basic of the Su-25T and finally now I can land without much efforts... Then I watched this ILS landing and all my self esteem and beliefs are thrown into the trash can.... that landing was PERFECTION!
I think that "raincloud" only had a shadow cast on it. Trust me, there are amazing rain sounds, but use an actual rainy preset :) Also, icing is now a thing!
@@CWLemoine BTW that's... not the sound that should be playing, your game glitched. There's a very different noise when you enter a raincloud, subsiding as you emerge out of it. Beautifully done and all... when it works 🤣
How's icing happening? I have not noticed any so far, I was thinking they didn't bother about that! What kind of weather or preset do I have t use to see icing?
@@heavyDriver320 For me it was one of the "overcast with rain" presets, and happened after climbing to 20k out of rain clouds below. Got the usual deedle-deedle and "INLET ICE" on the left MFD. The temperature on the ground was the default 20C but it must have gotten much colder up high. I bet you'll drastically increase the chances of seeing this if you set the weather to 10C or less.
8:58 what is "destage the blower"? My mind is blown how you land the F18. I'm trying to replicate this circuit, but I'm falling out of the sky when I turn to base/final. Gear and flaps are out. Then I have to add so much power I'm increasing too much speed. Any suggestions appreciated.

Base commander at Tyndall "LT GEN JOHN H CAMPBELL" told me a story about two F15 guys that played in some storm clouds. Apparently it tore up the paint and they got into to trouble. this was 20 years ago when he told me this story.
Have you heard of the F-14 mission set called Zone 5? It's apparently supposed to recreate the feeling of going to Top Gun and was co-written by a former Top Gun instructor.
Hey Mover, great vid! Love the new Clouds! I have one question, how do you record the VR mirror on the screen in 16:9? I want to record my flights in full screen size but the DCS window on the screen while playing vr is something like 4:3.
I don't know what your headset is. If it's an Oculus, you can run OculusMirror like this: Path to Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics\OculusMirror.exe --Size 1024 1024 --LeftEyeOnly --FovTanAngleMultiplier 1.3 1.3 Then just press F8, F2 and Alt Tab to the DCS mirror which then should be in front of the Oculus mirror that runs in fullscreen (F2) and with stabilization (F8) - just record that with OBS. As for other devices, you should look up how to record the Steam HMD/Display mirror.

I have added the Oculus Mirror directly to the source list of OBS and put it above the screen-record so whenever the mirror runs, it records from that regardless if anything is on top of it on the screen. That's also why it has to be in full screen with F2, so I get the whole screen size for the capture.

How do you maintain separation with IFR aircraft while cloud surfing? I am assuming you are talking to some kind of controller the whole time or have special airspace.
We had a unit of F-16's trying to do SFO's here during our rainy season, but they couldn't because of clouds. I was disappointed at how quiet they were blowing through at less than AB power...😢 I'm used to F-22's...

In a fatty on final, sure. In a fighter at 300 knots with double hearing protection, no. In a fighter on final, sort of. On the ground, absolutely.

When they came out, I somehow knew you where going to make a video about the clouds.
Flown safety pilot for friends doing IFR and this does seem to simulate real IMC pretty well.
Crusing between cloud layers in the Spitfire has become my new favorite thing in DCS since the update.

When flying VR, voice attack for comms is a big help. Just hit your comms button on hotas and speak commands to navigate the communication menus...

It is also a known issue that the clouds arent as sharp in VR as they are in screen mode.

I think the dark spot cloud early on was from another cloud shadow, not rain. Rain lower alt.

It's especially a bitch when you don't have a butt meter... but it makes you love your HUD pitch ladder for sure!
