hi. thanks a lot for your videos. it shows several aspects of operating systems. the drawback is that you go maybe a bit quickly in them and didn't notice some points. i know for example batocera and you can choose the partition you want in option (exfat, ext4 and even btrfs). About the big high number of boards available on the batocera website, take a look, and you'll notice that windows/mac/nuc ... images link to the same file. in fact, this is only for x86 64 bits. As a general rules, batocera is a unique system, compiled for many boards, and the work done on one board is available on others. last but not least, i'm involving in the batocera work, and i play with my rg351p, and i have no trouble on it ; my guess is that you used tools like paragon on your sdcard that transform sd card to unstable sd card and make you feel that you system is buggy (this is the only reported crash issues on this board). maybe i'm wrong, but it is generally with such tooling that crashes are known to appear.
Heads up, follow all of his guides if you want you portables running as smoothly as possible. Also heads up for anyone buying an RG351p for n64 or Dreamcast, if there is a playstation version of a game you want to play go with playstation. Some Dreamcast and n64 games run perfectly, some run fine, but most cross platform games are way more playable on psx. All super retro games run great and PSP games are hit and miss, but when they hit they run perfectly. I would recommend Daxter, GTA Vice City Stories, Monster Hunter Freedom 2, DBZ Shin Budokai Another Road for PSP. They all run great.
Just a heads-up: Batocera DOES in fact have a games partition. It's an ext4 (Linux) partition that autoexpands to fill the SD card, but ext4 partitions are hidden in Windows and not supported well in Mac OS. If your desktop machine is Linux you can see it straightaway. If you have Windows you have to use a tool like Partition Magic to open it before being able to copy files to it. I use Batocera and find it easiest to just FTP into it to copy games over...
Thanks for the tip! I also just learned that you can actually create an exFAT partition in the Batocera menu options; I've added instructions in my written guide.
@@RetroGameCorps thanks ! Which guide are u talking about? I’m interested to try batocera on my rg351p, I saw that batocera has extra features to run better some games than with arkos.
@@quickeneen the written guide linked below this video has the new Batocera instructions. I will say that the improvements that Batocera had (N64 and PSP) have now been implemented in ArkOS as of this week, so there isn't really a performance difference at this point. @@RetroGameCorps ah oki thanks! i though it was de dedicated guide to batocera. yep, so great that firmware are updated quickly , impressive work of these teams. great work also for you, thanks for sharing !!
As a note, you can use a USB Ethernet adapter with the USB-C Adapter. I use an Anker USB3.0 LAN Dongle and it works. Super fast transfer speeds. You don't need to enable wifi, just look under Network Settings and it shows connected and the IP. Just an FYI. :)
Good to know! I have one on order to test, happy to hear the confirmation. I got the Anker one too, because I almost always get Anker stuff when I have a choice :)
@19:00 who remembers the old DOOM FU wad (around 1996ish) with samples from Tarantino movies? When you killed demons they would say lines from the movie that obviously had "FU" in it.
@@RetroGameCorps my older bro and few of his buddies had a "dotcom" back in the 90s located in Venice CA, I was about 14. When I'd visit all the programers (4 college nerds) and I would play doom all day via LAN. It was so amazing to me, the best line used was the scene where that guy came out shooting while they're eating big kahuna burgers, "die you mfers, die!" The dotcom failed like most others unfortunately.
a quick question. so i have a an fba folder with fba games i use on my rp2. i now want to put these games on my rg351m but there is no fba foler. where do these games go?
Guy says a lot of things that I just am saying "right on man" right along with him, Like having everything running, have low expectations for new age games, and if you love some new gen game just buy it already... my home is mostly scratched disks Im just focused on getting some rarities from the import market I missed through my lifetime, some have even been translated in the last 2-5 years and it's fantastic to see loads screens I never seen B4.
I was decided to wait for RG352 or 351M to get N64 and PSP emulation but it's really impressive how the community improved this device in a few months. Even God of War is kinda playable.
I was definitely surprised at how well some games performed on the PSP, I had honestly given up on some of them. This new patch is a real game-changer (pun intended).
So well organized and very informative! I also am sticking with ArkOS since I get an update almost every day :) I just hope that developper can implement couple more popular themes from ES community.. such as SNES Mini. But overall, I'm really happy with it!
351ELEC now has ota updates, and a pretty large and active development community. Better identification of bugs and tweaks, and addition of new features, when you have a group of people working on it instead of 1 developer. v2.0 is coming out soon, and will be Batocera-based. You can also choose to update with the latest stable release or the latest beta (which may be buggy). With all the presets optimized for individual systems/emulators on 351ELEC, I don't see any advantage to staying with ArkOS.
im on manjaro so i have no issues acessing my files with batocera and the psp emulation is really amazing , night and day on .29 compared to all other firmware . my only con on batocera is no sleep mode, not perfect, but not "buggy" from what i've exprienced, plays everything pretty well.
I'm glad you aren't seeing the bugs I have...when you try and change the RetroArch menu driver does everything crash? And is your battery indicator accurate? I agree that the PSP emulation is great, but yesterday's updates to ArkOS and 351ELEC now have the same performance, which is awesome!
@@RetroGameCorps ohh then ill give ark os a try its true that the battery indication isnt always accurate, i havent had the retro arch crash yet. thanks for the videos though they've been very helpful
Hi sir and thank you very much for the video, it's amazing, these are really important steps you presented here. I'm new to these devices and I just ordered a 351P. The man from which I ordered it has bought it from Amazon and told me that he has installed ArkOS on it, on a 32 GB card. If you have time please tell me should I change this card with a 100+GB following your tutorials and trying to install everything? I'm mostly interested in classic games like Mario, Alien 3, Contra, TMNT etc., those were my favorite childhood games. I hope I will manage with it. I'm very excited to receive the device. Thanks again for the video! I will subscribe to your channel and try to get more info.
Thanks for this info. For anyone new to the 351 - its really helpful. I could not really find the home of ArkOS on the web, with reference to an old linux OS being shown more than the version for 351 - maybe you could link in description - anyway, much appreciated - very helpful stuff!!
I had tones of problems with 351elec on the rg351v, it started to freezing all the time, would never wake up from sleep, then the second SD card slot died, battery started to die really fast, it go to the point that leaving it changed over night would say I had 20% battery when I would remove the USB cable. The battery and SD card slot problem fallowed when I changed to arkos, original firmware also had this problem, i was able to find the battery problem by removing the battery from the main board for 10 seconds and plugging it back in, the SD card is still defective, no os can read or write to it.. I have a rg351p running arkos and it doesn't have this problem. It's possible the SD card problem is a hardware problem, but every thing happened aster one of the last updates 351elec put out.
Help! I copied the bios folder plus the roms from the included sd card... then I made another sd with 351elec and my psx games are not showing... everything else, at least the ones I play work just fine.. what can I do?
Fantastic content. Really informative and well explained. For me I want to download new firmware easily and get simple updates as and when as that takes me the most time and optimising my gaming experience I guess is the main point for me using new firmware....
Very infomative as always - Thank you! I like the idea of ArkOS being more of a Linux distro. I would love a SyncThing client for it - Being able to sync saves to my PCs retroarch would be amazing.
Totally agree. I would love to have it wirelessly, like to store the save files/states on a Google Drive folder, and then sync that with my PC RetroArch seamlessly! But I don't think we're there yet.
@@RetroGameCorps I think I have found my project for the holidays. ArkOS supports terminal/SSH. SyncThing can be installed through the terminal. You then connect to the webpage SyncThing creates on the RG351 to configure what folders you want to sync. It seems like it can be done.
Another update: Think I might uninstall it. I set my screenshots folder up for sync as well. While testing, Retroarch crashed everything I took a screenshot. So yeah, we might not be there yet 😀
The main problem with these custom firmwares is that they are mostly one-man projects. That naturally entails a lack of quality control, leading to unstable/buggy performance. Another issue is lack of dedication. Batocera for example is basically a one-size-fits-all OS that sometimes fails to address the individual quirks of each supported device. That's why I recommend AmberELEC which is a) made by a real team of developers and b) is truly dedicated to the RG351 devices.

You're awesome man! Your content is very informative
I appreciate that!
Another great video!
This video was a work of art right here
@19:00 who remembers the old DOOM FU wad (around 1996ish) with samples from Tarantino movies? When you killed demons they would say lines from the movie that obviously had "FU" in it.
I haven't heard of this but I am intrigued :)
Such a helpful video... Thank you soo much!
a quick question. so i have a an fba folder with fba games i use on my rp2. i now want to put these games on my rg351m but there is no fba foler. where do these games go?
Guy says a lot of things that I just am saying "right on man" right along with him, Like having everything running, have low expectations for new age games, and if you love some new gen game just buy it already... my home is mostly scratched disks
Im just focused on getting some rarities from the import market I missed through my lifetime, some have even been translated in the last 2-5 years and it's fantastic to see loads screens I never seen B4.
My rg351p has arrived in the country! hoping it gets delivered before Christmas 🎄
Fingers crossed! That will be a nice present :)
Nice video dude keep up the good work
Thank you!
Great videos! Really impressive work!
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow so many info. Thank you! Hoping to have all good stuff in one OS. 🙏
They are each getting better all the time!
Are there are firmwares/os' that lets you use moonlight or Steamlink? Thanks :)
Would love to know this too, seems like ArkOS might make it possible but I'm not sure how hard it would be to recompile
I'm leaning towards ArkOS! awesome guide
im on manjaro so i have no issues acessing my files with batocera and the psp emulation is really amazing , night and day on .29 compared to all other firmware . my only con on batocera is no sleep mode, not perfect, but not "buggy" from what i've exprienced, plays everything pretty well.
Hi Russel,
could you please make an update video for this?! Specially for the 351mp version???
Hi Tony, I already have! retrogamecorps.com/2021/10/09/rg351mp-custom-firmware-guide/
@@RetroGameCorps I actually meant by video. But also okay, thanks!
@@FaKz92 there is a video, it’s embedded in that written guide.
Great Video. ArkOS is the best, because it's a real Operating System and it's Update features make it quite unique.
I’m getting a RG351P and am thinking of playing shmups (Mame) im concerned about input delay. Which of these ones would you recommend?
All of these firmwares use the latest emulation cores, where input lag is no issue anymore.
Thanks for this very informative video.
Very good explanation thanks!
Could you revisit this now with the current versions? For the rgb30? I think a lot are interested in that currently
Fantastic content. Really informative and well explained. For me I want to download new firmware easily and get simple updates as and when as that takes me the most time and optimising my gaming experience I guess is the main point for me using new firmware....
Glad it was helpful!
Update: I did it!
i.postimg.cc/htbcgXrC/T430-2020-12-23-15-08-09-Sync-Trayzor.png
I feel like a god!
Another update: Think I might uninstall it. I set my screenshots folder up for sync as well. While testing, Retroarch crashed everything I took a screenshot. So yeah, we might not be there yet 😀
Pls do a new comparison! 🥺🙏
At 15:30 how did you connect to the internet without the wifi dongle inserted?
I have an early model RG351P that had Wi-Fi built-in.
RG351P has Wifi inside?? i have a low budget so which one i choose buy some emulation player or use smartphone and joy stick, grip?
