Great game made greater by this expansion. This one is slowly replacing Talisman as my favorite RPG / boardgame hybrid. Thanks for the in depth review.
About time someone made a fantastic component overview for Unbreakable Bonds!! (MUCH better than my botched rush job) Mage Knight is still my #1 solo game but my goodness has this gotten close to beating it. It certainly gets more plays than MK now thanks to this expansion. PS That song at the end is beautiful-thanks for supplying the link! 😊
yes I still play the original way as well but love the co-op game play. I would suggest gamers new to the game or type of game to play co-op first before doing a competitive play.
Hi McGuire :). I'm looking for a fantasy adventure game which has a small package to be able to take on a trip. Will be staying some months in hotels for work. Would you still recommend this game? Are there any fantasy games- able to play solo - which you find better value? I'm mainly looking for a world to get lost into but needs to have enough replayability to come back to. Can you see this game having 30+ plays and still be interesting? Many 5hanks for your advice!
In Locust Swarm: Where do you spawn the second warband? (from 2nd story card that is facing down) Do you spawn in outlaw glade again if the other (1st warband) has moved? Very confusing! Thanks for any help
Thank you! I may have figured it out playing today. The second spawns in glade like first, after second story card is revealed. Then, other story cards, non-warband cards are drawn. 2 warbands were enough to try and kill solo! They actually scorched 7 spots before I could kill one. I tried going for gold and leveling up but should of tried taking one out before leveling up with units. Thanks again!! Hope this helps out with anyone else having trouble and let me know if I'm playing it right pkease !
yes it does - with room to spare and I have everything that has been released so far for 3rd edition. You can even fit way more by taking out the insert and doing something custom or just not using anything. Although with all expansions and even using the original insert - no issues.
BUT...you need to invest another $50 (!) to make it the game it should have been as a base game. The 3e base game is just not solo-playable unlike the 2e game system. Unfortunately, I still dislike the movement system which just isn't as challenging as the 2e system. I suppose you could house rule and say no more than 2 actions can be used for movement (and not 3). Having 3 actions for movement makes that system ridiculously easy. Saving an action is a strange ability. How does that thematically work in that world? I'm sleeping longer tonight so that I'll do more tomorrow? It does seem to make the game even easier. Why so easy? It should be a hard fought challenge to overcome and not just a 3 hour stroll.
Gregory - thanks for your comments. First, I don't disagree with you on some points. Could they have added the solo and co-op rule-set with the initial release of 3e - yes. Why they did not, there could be lots of reasons. I think the initial release could have been stronger if they would have included this expansion with the base game (maybe - see below). We also have to think about how different this release was, in comparison to 2e. They have a very different feel and I'm glad I have most all the 2e content, as to me, these version releases are very different and change the game play experience. So 3e is not a replacement for 2e in my opinion, I will be keeping all my 2e content. As far as the game play on this 3e - I do think its awesome and very fun. I also think its a much easier game to sit down with people and play (specially if they are not avid gamer's). Also, this version release was different than our prior version in many ways. So maybe it made sense to release this co-op and solo play later due to the mechanic changes in this version. One thing they definitely fixed here, with the initial release of 3e, was the interaction between players. So the strategy of focusing in on that with an initial release was smart. Then bringing us the co-op experience later to explore.
I just bought RB 2e for $20 + 15 card expansions for $130... I am glad I made the right choice! I am looking for more challenge, so 2E with the expansions is the way to go!
@@artemkorniichuck8358 I would hope but I doubt it the reason they stopped 3rd edition was because of sales and terrinoth doesnt sell as well as stuff like star wars and lord of the rings Im glad I at least own all the expansions for 3rd because I wanted this game day one and got all expansions before they went up to like 200 dollars for unbreakable. What I was really hopeing for was a board expansion but sadly I don't think im ever gona get that:/

What do you think of Mr. Skeletor's (BGG) 2e Solo house rules compared to Unbreakable Bonds' solo play?
Not sure - I have not played with them. Maybe I will check them out here soon. thanks for mentioning it.
Really nice review and overview. Well done.
You ever play competitive again?
It easily fits in the base box. For organizing it just needs a selfmade foamcore insert.

Hi there, wondering whats the replayability vallue of this game ?

Love the game, can't get over the token combat though. It sucks. Isn't there a way they could do the same thing with dice?
gameplay please. Thank you.

Well from the perspective that nothing has been released new for some time - yes. For me though, Runebound will live on forever!
