    The Legend of Zelda (ゼルダの伝説) is an adventure game that needs no introduction to most NES players. But for those who do want an introduction, it is the first game in The Legend of Zelda series and appears to take place in the middle of one Link's neverending quest to defeat Ganon.
    Even after collecting the Triforce, saving the princess, and collecting every kind of trinket and gizmo he can find, Link is still not satisfied. The best version of every object and status upgrade, including all the heart containers, every inventory item, the best sword, both bomb upgrades. and even the bait, all of that wasn't enough. Link wants to do all of that again, but with a harder quest. The 2nd Quest.
    chatterbox ( tasvideos.org/... ) decides to fulfill Link's request and does the 2nd quest while collecting every unique item available. If you want to know more about the run was done, including how every glitch was executed, you can read the author's notes ( tasvideos.org/... ).
    --------
    The RUclips and downloadable encodes have author's commentary in the form of captions.

    I love that the TASes on this channel have been using the CC to explain what is going on. I find watching a TAS so much more fun if stuff is explained while it's happening.
    Otherwise, it can sometimes just look like the game is glitching and there's no rhyme or reason to it.

    Effing raft in Quest 2 was a game changer for me as a young boy. It never occurred to me that the secret door would be in the friggin' triforce room! That's like the END of the dungeon!! So first time, obviously just grabbed the dumb triangle, level ended, booted outside. Then at some point must have realized I didn't get the special item from Dungeon 4 so went back, deduced the hidden areas via the map, but STILL IGNORING THE TRIFORCE ROOM, did everything else I could to figure it out. Bombing from every wall adjacent, trying the pass thru walk, killing all enemies. Pushing against every friggin block. So much time wasted on such a heinous (and brilliant) level design!

    Funny and true story, when this game was brand new I borrowed a copy of the game from a friend before I owned it and jokingly put my name in as "Zelda" but then erased it and changed it to something else. I actually got a weird look from my friend and he said something like, "Duh, the chick is Zelda and you're Link." Oh, how painful and bizarre that would've been if I'd kept it.

    This TAS is utterly amazing in its efficiency, making it a pleasure to watch. Nevertheless, it falls short of its goal stated in its title. I fully understand that the author set out with an agenda in mind, and that that agenda was set forth here, and that various comments below address this. I still believe this is inadequate.
    The title clearly states that ALL ITEMS will be obtained. The title doesn't say "best items" or "full inventory" or anything like that, notwithstanding what the description says.
    Items missed: Boomerang, Life Potion, White Sword, Blue Ring.
    Sorry, but if you deliberately bypass the above items, deferring instead to their upgrades, then you're NOT getting "all items," plain and simple.
    You went to the trouble to get all nine maps and compasses, which do not even count as "items" in a sense, because they serve the purpose of guiding the player to the goal, of which a TAS will already have complete knowledge. Yet you didn't get the four missed items above? Especially considering how close you came to their locations in many cases, this was ludicrous.
    While I cannot prove this, I have to imagine that getting the White Sword fairly early on would save much time over the course of the run. Are you going to tell me that hacking Pols Voices ten times with an inferior sword in numerous rooms is faster overall, compared to getting the White Sword first?
    The purchase of the Food at 27:32 was a loss of time, because the Food had been purchased and used profitably earlier in the video, thus rendering it unnecessary at 27:32. Again, a full inventory is not needed per the parameter specified by the title. It only requires "all items."

    • @macethorns1168
      @macethorns1168 Год назад +1

      Pols only take 1 arrow to kill. There were several things in this video that didn't jive.

    • @junglekun22
      @junglekun22 Год назад

      I’d think “max items” would be a fair compromise tbh

    • @drdankubus
      @drdankubus Год назад

      @Mace Thorns I'm okay with the non-arrow kills on Pols Voices because switching weapons at the menu screen costs time, and that adds up quickly. I can't get behind the insistence to use the weakest sword, though.

    • @dioune32
      @dioune32 2 месяца назад

      @@drdankubus You can disagree with how the category is named, but you're clueless about the rest. Wood sword is very obviously much faster and you're being very ignorant. People who know 100 times more than you do about this game have been routing it for decades and they got a pretty good idea of what is faster, and obviously they tried routes with the white sword, it's not the big brain idea you think it is. You're free to make a better 2Q 100% TAS either faster or with your own set of rules by the way, no one is stopping you.

    When did ZELDA include a disclaimer to hold in RESET when turning the power OFF?

    • @jondorthebrinkinator
      @jondorthebrinkinator Год назад +5

      The original release did not, but there was a revision to the ROMs later that added that disclaimer. Prior to the MMC3 chip, the NES CPU would still run for a short while after power off and there was no mechanism in the cart to stop writes to SRAM during that time. The MMC3 chip blocked writes immediately when the power was interrupted and prevented that problem.
