FAITH LYCEUM: De-Mystifying Islam: Beliefs, Practices, and Lived Experience

This lyceum will explore Islam, the religion of nearly a quarter of the world's population today.[i] As Islam has been the focus of much scholarly, political, and public discussion in the twenty-first century, this seminar will provide an overview of Islam’s origins, beliefs, and rituals as they developed from the seventh century until the present. What do Muslims believe? Are women in Islam relegated to second-class status or do they have equal rights? What do Muslims believe about religious pluralism?
