I'm not sure why, but I always think of an elevator when I see the geimaiko waiting to enter a building. One group stands around waiting for the other group to leave; the doors open, the first group leaves and the second one enters. I also love how the younger ones scurry ahead to open the doors for the older ones. It's refreshing to see the geimaiko's manners and the respect they have for their elders and each other, something that's sadly lacking in today's generation. Why is that tall man at the 2:46 mark holding what appears to be a steering wheel?

This event is called Shigyoshiki and it is the new years greetings made in the various kagai. They have a staggered schedule for the different kagai but basically it's when the various maiko and geiko go to the different tea houses and other businesses to give their thanks and ask for further support for the next year ^^ It also includes a huge meeting at the theaters in which prizes and rewards are given to different maiko and geiko for their accomplishments ^^ The most anticipated award is the top earner award as this is the time when earnings are made public ^^
