From personal experience and participating in an "Anger Management" program, I have come to the conclusion that self-destructive behavior, including addiction, come from unresolved anger issues, usually from childhood. These are aggravated by our incredibly stupid progressive income tax system, which punishes people for success, but fails to help them when they fail. A mandatory psychological test before entering school and a mandatory anger management unit in the health hygiene in Middle School would solve most of these problems. Replacing the income tax with a national sales tax would encourage thrift capture more wealth from the rich and remove much government control from our lives.
