The professor guy who wrote machines asked Rancho to explain a machine. Of course, he does so in a goofy way and is berated, saying that he must explain it in a serious/professional manner iirc. It's the reason he was kicked out of his class. Then, he comes back because he forgot his books. When the professor asked, he goes:
"Instruments that record, analyse, summarise, organise, debate and explain information; that are illustrated, non-illustrated, hardbound, paperback, jacketed, non-jacketed; with foreword, introduction, table of contents, index; that are indented for the enlightenment, understanding, enrichment, enhancement and education of the human brain through sensory route of vision - sometimes touch."

"Books, sir! I forgot to take my books."

Words will really never be enough to explain how much this film means to me. I know every line, every word of it. In a way, both good or bad, our whole present generation of Indian teens has been raised on this film. And it still holds up fairly phenomenally well. Every joke, every gag still hits like a knife, every emotional beat still reduces me to tears, one of the sharpest Bollywood screenplays ever written. Also extremely monumental to me personally as it was the first film that I remember that really made me love movies. Like a deep passionate obsessive kinda love, which still runs deep 11 years later.

Fun fact: the main reason why they couldnt use a pencil in space was because of how it actually functioned. Pens use ink which stick easily to paper but pencils use lead which leave marks along with tiny remains.
The lead remains from the pencil would go into the air filtration system of the ship and could not only destroy it but also lead to a major disaster that could kill everyone in said ship.

The homo/semi-naked part was common in colleges across India like 10-20 years ago. It was a tradition called "ragging" in which the seniors insult and embarres fresh students as an attempt to remove their shyness and make them a brave man to face every difficulty in life. Back then when internet was ot there, most fresh students were actually very shy. The most insulting thing is making them semi-naked which would completely remove any shyness from anyone for anything. However that didn't go well. Many students did suicide out of that. Authorities tried to stop that. Now-a-days its not happening in big colleges. Small Colleges may follow it but its now not harsh like semi-naked. Now its like making boys dance, sing, ramp-walk, proposing senior girls (obviously those senior girls have their consent for this and take this as joke) etc. This "ragging" was a thing in all boys hostels back then. I don't know how common was it in girls hostel, but i have heard a few cases where senior girls would do the same to junior fresh girls.

Not only a great comedy movie, but also a heartfelt and relatable one.
A beautiful sentiment, Cy!

I bet there is more school pressure in India and china more then anywhere else, and unnecessary pressure

The film 3 Idiots drew inspiration from the real life story of an engineer-cum-scientist called Sonam Wangchuk. He is the founder of Student Educational and Cultural Movement in Ladakh that was established in the 1988 by the group of students.
One of the Most Popular Film In India 😁 I still love it ❤️

I think it's important to point out at 12:10 he did the unthinkable after the Director gave him a way out by throwing Rancho under the bus instead but he chose the unthinkable over betraying his friend.
Imagine a teacher hoping you fail. It's basically hoping that you suck at your job.
I am Indian and i really know the value of this movie. it's like an addiction , believe me i have least watched it for 50 + times and litteraly remembered all the dialogues but if in television it is playing somewhere i always see the movie till end. It's so relatable , educational and funny.
In Highschool my Physics Teacher showed us this movie in 11th grade. (Here in the USA) and I absolutely love it.
This movie is the only movie I've ever had to read subtitles for that I actually genuinely love.
Everything about the movie is hilarious, sad, touching, joyful, and inspiring. It's a truly amazing movie.
I highly suggest you watch it if you haven't!!!
And if you haven't watched the video before you read this comment, try not to watch the video before you watch the movie!!!
There's things that are much better learned as you watch rather than prior to watching!!!

*Lage Raho Munna bhai* as well.
They are both as good as this movie
@@roronoazorro7052 sorry but munnabhai mbbs isnt even remotely comparable or relatable to this masterpiece. Munnabhai just has a smooth time cheating through every test and gets into a prestige medical college on a whim inspite of being what he is. He's nothing like the genius Maverick that Rancho is.
@@soham4741 nobody is talking about studies
@@roronoazorro7052 Doesn't matter. A thug who just got a wife and respect because he had a "good heart" is just a bollywood thing, in real life nobody cares how good your heart is, a adult woman will want status from her man. I can relate to this, not me personally, but one of my best friends. All throughout high school, he got c’s or worse. When taking the sat, he got a near perfect score. Ever since then, his confidence was boosted and he now works as an engineer, which fits his mind perfectly.
I work with kids from 'broken homes' who experienced emotional and physical abuse.
Grades are important for an education system, but for my line of work they are actually counterproductive.
You don't have to be a pedagogue to understand the concept of 'participation medals'.
Competition can be a good thing, especially when everybody is treating eachother with mutual respect and fairness.
Capitalism can't create fast and huge amounts of profit without pitting people against eachother.
A lot of people need to work for basically nothing, so that another scumbag can be a billionaire.
This system doesn't only exploit human beings, the real victims are the rest of the planet.
Only a handful people try to protect the other living beings on this planet, only those few have enough functioning braincells left to see that all living beings are part of a bigger organism called Planet Earth.
Raising our kids to become demented halfwits and self-absorbed sociopaths will just speed up the race into our own doom.

This is a phenomenal piece of cinema. Everything about it is so well done. My partner and I have rewatched it many times in the seven years we’ve been together. We’re from vastly different cultural backgrounds and both agree that this film contains important messages for people from all walks of life. Just chefs kiss beautiful. Never fails to make me cry. We’re excited for the day our kids are old enough to sit down and watch it with us.

I think you should try to give one of those cavemen a participation medal, i can only imagine how much they would care about something like that. The world you take for granted was created by capitalism.
I'd never heard of this movie until I watched this review. I cannot wait to watch it in full. I have just purchased it and look forward to adding my thoughts soon.

15:54 BTW this is the actual reason why pencils weren't used in space! To elaborate the answer: pencil lead, which is made of graphite is highly conductive, and when the lead breaks off it could float into instruments, causing them to short circuit

The mix of everything I'm seeing really does paint a life-like picture, not many movies can balance elements of tragedy and comedy in such a way that the whole thing feels like a natural series of events that could take place IRL, because remember, reality is stranger than fiction but here they seemed to blend the two perfectly, and with some real word inspiration as i learned from another comment, that's usually a good foundation for a good story.

This movie is a masterpiece. This was a good recap but summary alone doesn't fully capture the full greatness of this movie

First "Taare Zameen Par" and now "3 Idiots"? So happy you're recapping some of Bollywood's best films ❤️
Movies like this is very very rare! There have been made 4 different copies of this movie in different industries & languages.
It's once in a lifetime movie, received several awards & made a new box office record at that time which is why it's still considered as one the highest grossing Indian movies!
I'm not from the area at all, but that type of movie would be perfect for the US. As many kids don't like school due to how much pressure it can give to students just for better grades. There have been many that drop out or just do poorly in school, to become some of the better off in the end as they are confident in themselves and what they can do.
Overall, the recapped made me laugh a few times, and it sounds like it should be amazing to watch. I'll have to see if it was ever released with an English version.
I think it's available with subtitles dude. That's how I watched it😄
@Safwaan That's exactly why people would never want to learn Hindi, so that they'd never have to talk to people like you.
@Safwaan Joking? Where's the joke? If I say something like I'll kill you, then I actually mean that I'll do something bad to you, not literally kill you. If you call someone pagal, what do you really mean? Of course, it's not some kind of a huge insult. But someone's saying that it would be good to have an American version as well due to their bad education system and for a more global reach, then you reply "Learn Hindi pagal". Where's the manners? I don't see anything funny or any other meaning other than to just be obnoxious to foreigners.
@Safwaan no problem bhai chill kro, agar aur koi faltu bole mujhe bula lena. 😎😎
Dude almost no one in the world likes schools because of pressure. Especially Asian countries. The extreme pressure combined with unupgraded school is hell

As much as I should have foreseen that the great scientist was their friend, I was distracted by their journey to find him so much that I forgot to connect the dots. The journey was fun
Watching the movie with all the emotions, dialogues, music is on q whole another level.
