- On New Year's Day, it will become easier for potential migrants from Eastern Europe to move around in the European Union. One country where they may end up is Britain. And many of them are likely to be from the Roma community, but that could raise tensions Al Jazeera's Laurence Lee reports from Sheffield.

I have them as neighbours, it’s unacceptable but nobody does anything about it for fear of being called racist. There are 10 in a 2 bed flat and on Sundays there are 26 of them gathering in the flat

I deal with Eastern European’s a lot. No problems at all. But every interaction with Roma people has been atrocious. No respect for another individual. They make and break rules as they please.

Well, it's remarkable that almost all the Roma, maybe 90% of them have an anti-social and often criminal behaviour. Then there must be something really wrong about the Roma population itself. Then you can't blame others about it. Can you imagine that even all the other populations with an immigrant background complain about them and not only the British.
It's also good to notice that it's not only about Romanian or Bulgarian Roma. Here you can see that Slovakian Roma, but also Roma from ex Yugoslavia countries and from Greece are not much better.
Such a shame how the area has changed . It was always clean , I used to go to the local shop there to buy spices for cooking . Hate even driving through the area now

Muslim haven't integrated. They have invaded and set up trading posts. But it's no wonder they don't like the Roma, nobody does, they are hated everywhere they go. You don't have to be in tune with the wider society to think that an influx regressive and degenerate traits are bad for everyone.
I don't care for what reason the Roma are such a problem, but they haven't got a place in English society by the tens of thousands, and it is not our duty to accommodate for them when we can't look after our own.

I am proud to say that the Romas in my town have become wonderful people to live beside. But my town being a touristic destination, we do get some of these people from outside, dragging their children around like cattle! Call me a racist, call me whatever you want! But there is an unspoken rule in human society "When you behave like an animal, you will be treated as an animal"! These people should at least try treating their children right.

Well, we're not even those type of immigrants. (I'm a Hungarian-born Roma person, but I was adopted by White Americans, hence the last name.) We Romani have lived in Europe for over 1,000 years, so it's not like we're Muslim asylum-seekers or refugees who are F.O.B. from Asia or Africa. People normally try to adapt to their environment, wherever they move to. You move to a new country, you adapt to their ways there, well, that is how it should be.
I met a woman who works in the middle east, she works there, she adapted to the way they dress there, even though she does not practice their religion.
Crime and coming into people's homes in order to steal is a major problem which the police do nothing about here in the UK, yet disturbing and endless monitoring decent folk while criminals do what they like, steal and sell homes at auctions, invade homes, burglarise etc.

This is what I am saying.
A few years ago, I arrived at my house to find a a note from some midwives at Mayday Hospital looking for a woman who had just had a baby there, using my address by the way.
So, I ignored the first note, then the midwives made more visits. So, I phoned the midwives office to say, look, the person you are looking for doesn't live at this address. I even wrote to the CEO at Mayday, did I get a response...nope.
Next thing all these Social services and other people sniffing around here, I don't even have children for a start. So these intrusions were quite annoying to me.
And the police, I don't even know why they bother, they are more interested in being racist than actually investigating crime, dependent on the skin colour of who is complaining.
Social services allows people to abuse their children and get away with it, I don't even know why they bother. My first search on here gave 'Wall highlights divide between Romanians and Roma', so there seems to be tensions between communities in Romania also. Biased on not, noted in Romanian news for criminal activity, dog fighting, and leaving garbage behind in their travels (Roma seem similar to the Irish gypsies, but not Irish or Romanian people in general). Of course everyone is different but education is surely the only way around any problem. The first homeless woman I ever saw seemed to be Roma, with all her belongings. Genuine or not, people gave food rather than money

I have met many good roma people but around the area i live in in newcastle there are lots of them that dont look after their children and their children grow up and become thugs. I got beaten up by two young roma men for literally no reason other than they found it entertaining. However, its important to remember that throughout history they have been treated really badly by societies and systemic racism which is why a lot of them are poorer and take part in anti social behaviour

nobody seems to have a kind word for these people, no-one - no wonder they stick together. These people have been ill-treated for so long that it is going to take a long time for them to trust anyone outside of their community. I appreciate it's not easy and I am not living there but you know English people are renowned for a smile when they pass you by or a nod of the head, even a smile and a hello, yes even to strangers; it could just start there. Yes, you will most likely not get any response, you may even be rebuked which will be crushing, but please don't let that stop you being kind. I know we all have stories but some vulnerable groups have been ill-treated for decades (and I don't mean in your homeland) so if you can show them some kindness by just acknowledging them when you pass them by, it could take years, but you will be doing such a lovely deed and even if it is just the young children who see this kindness and not be wary, they will grow up with this kindness and when they grow up they will not be afraid to mix in and things will change for the better. Please don't think I am trying to preach or tell you what to do (I am no Saint) but I always remember that lovely kind trait of English people always acknowledging a person when they passed them by. 💕💕💕💕💕
