- Here is my tutorial for how I made the belt for my Mighty Thor cosplay from Thor: Love and Thunder!
The belt is designed in three parts - two sides and a front part which I cut with my Cricut and glued all together. The back closure is made from Velcro.
I have files available for all the armour in my costume, please visit my Etsy site to gain access: -
www.etsy.com/uk/shop/TheCryst...
I have included a size guide with the files and for the bases I have a printing guide and assembly guide. The base files are .pdfs which you print and transfer to 5mm EVA foam. The detail files are designed for Cricut - .svg/.png that you can cut directly with a Cricut or similar (or you could potentially cut it by hand if you do so wish). I have included a Cricut guide showing how to cut and some tips.
Note that I will also be adding patterns for the detail on the Mjolnir hammer, the skirt and trouser panels (maybe even the cape) in the near future. There will also be tutorials for these being added soon.
This tutorial will cover: -
1. How to work out the curve of the belt for a great fit
2. How to cut the EVA foam with a Cricut
3. How to assemble all the belt parts
4. How to close the back with Velcro
This tutorial will not cover: -
1. How to pattern the details using Inkscape (this would take a lot of tutorials as it can be quite in-depth, so I will perhaps make a generic tutorial for this in future)
2. How to paint the belt (I have a full video dedicated to the armour-painting)
To follow my steps exactly you will need the following materials: -
2mm EVA Foam
1mm EVA Foam
Foam Clay
Worbla
Impact EVO-Stik Contact Cement
Impact Adhesive Cleaner
Hot glue sticks
Velcro
Painter’s tape
You will also need the following tools: -
Metallic pen
Steel rule
Exacto knife
Heat gun
Cricut Maker machine or similar
Cricut knife blade
Cricut deep-point blade
Cricut heavy duty mat
Dremel
Sandpaper
Wet and dry sandpaper
Mould for the rivets
Hot glue gun
20cm acrylic dome
You can potentially make this by hand however I designed it this way to get perfect cuts and so you can just cut it out and glue it together.
Enjoy making your builds and would absolutely love to see your cosplays so please tag me in your photos so I can see! X
