There was an awful call on FG try by ND when it was 7-0. Center moved the ball but we got called for offsides on 4th and 4. You can see Bama interior lineman move then end Mike Washington jump, but should have been procedure on Irish. ND then went on to score to make it 13-0. I think Coach Bryant beat Texas once when he was at Texas AM. But, for the most part, he struggled against Texas and couldn't get it done against Notre Dame. I didn't understand this loss. Alabama was the better team as far as talent goes. Bama beat a number of top 10 teams during regular season and had the better record. I can understand and accept the 1973 sugar Bowl loss the year before. ND had a great team the previous year. But in this game Bama laid an egg.

With the concentration of talent at the very top..they could still beat teams today with that offense. People think that high powered passing teams with soft defense is great football. Normally back then, this bowl game would be hosted by the Big 8 Champion, considering that Oklahoma won the Big 8 Championship in 1974, plus the fact that they were on probation for bowl games that year, perhaps that was why they matched up an Southeast Conference team in Alabama against an Independent in Notre Dame that year.
