    How to find fossils? Easy, go on line and find scientific papers related to known collecting areas where significant specimens were discovered. Then obtain USGS topographic maps and compare them to current hyway maps. Check the area for fragmentary bone fragments or marine organisms. Always get permission from private land owners and Federal and state land are usually restricted from collecting vertebrate fossils.

    I live in Arizona and I have a buddy in Payson which is near some well known areas for fossils.
    Another friend took a trip with a university geology class to near mine tailings near the town of Mammoth. Probably named because the town is so small(?). I found brachiopods, chrinoids, nautilus and rattle snakes !!! Usually where there are fossils there are snakes. Careful.

    • @zejurassico
      @zejurassico  4 года назад +1

      Yes. And here in Portugal when the weather gets very hot, there are snakes everywhere. fortunately they are not very poisonous, except in some cases that if you are allergic, the situation can get complicated ... Here the greatest danger comes from scorpions and centipedes, there is a particular specimen that if we are bitten we can be very ill ... But all dangers are worth it if we find good fossils! heheheh 😊👍⛏⛏🦕🍀

    • @zejurassico
      @zejurassico  6 лет назад +15

      I would say yes! But, you know that for an expert, maybe they are not as interest as a rare fossil. In my opinion the value is given by the person that looks, I have some rare and beautiful fossils that some people sayed that "that's just rocks", and sometimes I give some of the broken ones to kids, and they go absolutly crazy with the fact that It is a rock from the time of dinossaurs... ☺ For me, the point is, nature is magnificient, and we can see in fossils beeings from another era that put my life in prespective. We are expected to live more or less than 100 years, what is 1 million years to a fossil?

    a otra cosa en que tipo de roca sueles encontrar los fósiles? ??????esto muy intrigado

    • @zejurassico
      @zejurassico  7 лет назад +2

      Las mejores rocas para encontrar fósiles son en las rocas sedimentarias, o calcáreas. Son rocas que a los millones de años eran lodo de ríos o mares y donde los animales que morían caían y quedaban sepultados por los lodos y por todas las capas de sedimentos y residuos que más tarde se convertirían en rocas. En granito o basalto también puedes encontrar pero son bastante más raros.

      In Portugal there are some laws, but most of them applied is the land is protected. If you discover something relevant, let say, like a skeleton of a dino you should report to the proper authoritys.
