I remember a demon from one of my worlds. It's been a long time so I can't remember his name, but he and another demon was summoned and bound to the world at the beginning by a dwarven goddess of suffering. He ruled for about 50-100 years before a human civilization invading and took him prisoner, dragging him back to their lands and letting a goblin take over. Within the year, the demon was ruling the human civiliasation and was in command for about 25 years or so before he was outed and returned to his original lands, but instead of taking over again he became a ranger for the Fortress (I fully suspect so he could kill more people).
Said demon met their end when a slave girl who had been abducted from another civ, started as a farmer then became a tavern keeper killed him in her first year running the tavern at the age of 18. She would die to a dwarf 20 years later.

one of the most interesting historys i see in legends mode was about two demon masters, one of them was named gusmul tombhorror (a goat demon) and the other zumzust devilsburial (a chinchilla demon), both of they civ were the most powerful and large in the land of ciclones (the world name) humans, dwarves and elves were extinct and/or kidnaped by both civs, they were at peace with each other until one day an elven spy kills an important goblin from the civ of zumzust pretending to be part of the other civ, the problems between each other start escalating quickly. A great war between the two most powerful and large civ of the world started and last for almost 500 years and ended up when gusmul in person lead an army to the goblin capital were zumzust lived and kill zumzust with an dwarven artifact (it was a steel battle axe) gusmul live as a king for many years and was killed by the same elf that started the war.

In year 5 or possibly 7, Ug was kidnapped by a Gloom Creature (a female night creature with dark matted fur, humanoid form, and three tails) and forced to be its husband. After this happened not only did he lose his title as king but every civilization he came into contact from then on
despised him, even his friend left his side. In year 15 (I think), his "wife" was slain by an elven adventurer who shot her in the heart. The adventurer was slain by Ug soon after. A few years later Ug was slain by his former best friend Degel who bashed him in the head with a warhammer.

Really creative way to explore the game! I started using the legends browser recently and generated a world with an extinct dwarven civilization, destroyed by a bronze colossus. So I created a dwarf semi-god who grew up in the human civ (ruled by a criminal organization!); he had no beard and worshiped the human gods. He gathered a couple of followers and confronted the colossus, eventually avenging the dwarfs and becoming famous. Renal (as he was called) travelled the world telling tales of the lost dwarf fortresses and kings, trying to keep their memory alive. I built a fort on the ruins where the colossus fell and started (trying) to bring the dwarves back from exctinction. All very symbolic and roleplay-like; when I got familiarized with the interaction between Fort/Adv/Legends mode I realized the true potential this game has...using the most powerful tool ever: OUR IMAGINATION. Keep it up Krugg, great fan of your work, you bearded bastard!

That's so good! Just mix it with fortress mode!
I do feel that you best stories were those which were in context to the world around them. Steelclutches by example was incredible!
Look at the legends of a world (and show us), where are the major civilisations and such, what do they look like, then start a fort! This is so immersive! And from time to time, retire the fort to see your impact on legend mode.
Maybe you could have a *multi-fort* frontline to defend a dying dwarven civilisation.
Maybe you could have a fort dedicated to teach a nation how to fight, with crude baracks. a 24/7 training center with only the 7 starting dwarfs doing work, all the others training day and night. bannishing out dwarves that are well trained enough to train new ones... Making the most competent ones write books about combat techniques...
The fact that a mini-fort or a serie of mini-forts could have, in fact, a purpose within the context of a whole world, it makes is that much more interesting.
In a world with relative peace, we could create the greatest tavern of all, with thousands of visitors!
Or the greatest swimming pool in history!
Or even a whole city temple, dedicated to one god (of death), killing or bannishing all of the hereticts! You know.... multiple areas (i) can be assigned to the same establishment... what if all rooms, all dinning rooms, all buildings were part of a temple? :D

Wasn't it interesting? I'd like to do something like this for the next "long series" but I don't know if this info-dump format will work too too well. I do prefer to keep it a little more abstract and obscured with the hopes that some things will be revealed in time. perhaps there could be a segment in some episodes where dwarves tell stories that have happened in the world though? I always read through Legends Mode when I create a new world. I have a few good stories. In one, there was this dragon who's lair was in this hot desert. The dragon became an enemy of several surrounding civilizations, so eventually they all began sending heroes to kill her. There were dozens that journeyed to her lair and were torn to shreds. Eventually, the dragon must have gotten fed up with constantly having these idiots showing up in her lair, because after a certain point, she started ripping the eye lids off of everyone who showed up, and let them live, wandering in the desert. And I mean EVERYONE who showed up at her lair to try to kill her ended up with their eyelids ripped off, and wandering in the desert. I had another world where every civilization was run by vampires, with most of the population vampires. And there was this ONE human civilization that was completely unscathed, living apart from them. And the vampire run civilizations were NOT nice people. They had goblins and other not-nice things mixed into their civilizations. The last, remaining civilization. And the largest of the vampire civilizations, every year, held a festival that was kind of like the Olympics, where every civilization sent people to compete. Including the human one. So it was always this one human, competing against all these vampires, goblins, and other things. I always thought that this world would make a great setting for a fantasy novel.

I remember another story from Legends Mode where there was this elven girl who grew up in a small village. Her village was attacked by a bronze titan, destroying it, and killing her family. She ended up wandering the wilds well into adulthood. She eventually made her way to the capital of this elf civilization, where she must have caught the eye of the civilization's prince. They married, making her royalty, but a few months after her marriage, she was kidnapped by this, "Creature of the Night". He took her to his lair and transformed her into a "Lady of the Night", and produced children with her. Eventually, she left the lair, and made her way to this goblin fortress, and once there, she killed their leader. She became the leader of that goblin civilization. And immediately after, must have declared war on the old elf civilization that she had married into, because they immediately sent armies and invaded. The war went on for years, until, this one female dwarf farmer picked up weapons, left her husband, and went over to the goblin fortress. There, she confronted the Lady of the Night, and struck her down. The dwarf then went back to the farm and her husband and they lived out a happy life back on the farm. This was one of the coolest stories DF has ever generated for me.

Yes, Thursday episodes are back! And I really enjoyed this dive through Legends, something I also enjoy doing with my worlds. Though I can't resist the pull of Adventure and Fortress modes. I'll definitely be having this video in mind when creating a new world, seems like a fun way to get more immersed in them. If perhaps a bit tedious as you noted. Still, it was so cool to see the differences between dwarven civilizations with ostensibly the same beliefs as far as tagging in the files goes. And the story about those cyclopes was pretty amazing too, reminded me of my own exploration of (semi-)megabeast family trees and actions. Though I will say yours seem to do more than the ones I've seen so far. Then again I tend to generate larger worlds with shorter histories so that may have something to do with it. And the chameleon doctor, he was definitely a hero, of the medical world. Can't deny that. And it was really cool seeing the stories of those dwarves that slayed monsters and named their gear, to see where they went. That steel crown story had me laughing as it went back and forth and where it finally ended up. That seemed pretty fitting.
Hope to see more episodes like this in the future, this one was really good!
